When are the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards? Date and brand new venue announced for 36th annual VMAs

The MTV Video Music Awards are on their way to the Garden State. The cable network has announced that its 36th annual VMAs ceremony will be held on Monday, August 26, at the Prudential Center in New Jersey. This will be the first time in the history of the awards that they will be held in the state. The kudos have most commonly taken place in Los Angeles or New York City, with occasional trips to Miami and Las Vegas.

VMAs executive producer Bruce Gillmer said in a statement, “New Jersey has an incredible music heritage and is home to some of the world’s biggest artists including ‘Chairman of the Board’ Frank Sinatra, ‘The Boss’ Bruce Springsteen, Queen Latifah, Bon Jovi, Whitney Houston, the Jonas Brothers, the Fugees, and Halsey. The list is wide and endless. Now the moonperson plants its flag to celebrate all that New Jersey has given to music fans around the globe.”

Harris Blitzer Sports and Entertainment CEO Scott O’Neil added, “We are thrilled to welcome the music and entertainment industry’s brightest stars to Prudential Center, the City of Newark, and the State of New Jersey. Once again, the eyes of the music industry will turn to one of the top 10 busiest arenas in the world, Prudential Center. We look forward to continuing to tell the story of this world renown venue and the positive change it has generated through music and entertainment in Newark and across the State of New Jersey.”

Last year’s awards were held at Radio City Music Hall in New York, where Camila Cabello was awarded Video of the Year for “Havana” featuring Young Thug. Who do you think will prevail in 2019? Discuss the VMAs and much more with your fellow music fans in our forums.
