The “Project Runway” judges may have a tough time picking a winner in tonight’s season finale, but fans of the show sure don’t have a problem deciding. We asked our readers who they think should win the grand prize, and it was a landslide result: give the title to Sebastian Grey. Scroll down to see our complete poll results.
A whopping 82% of respondents think the Colombian designer should prevail, and he has come arguably the longest way. He opened two shops in his home country that shuttered, but you would never know he struggled from the quality of his work, which has been there since day one. He’s the only designer who never got a single low score from the judges, even in weeks when he thought he was a goner, like his confused streetwear look in “High Fashion to High Street” and his sculptural art installation design in “The Art of Fashion.” His looks are always polished, tailored and expertly finished, and then when Nina Garcia wanted a softer evening look from him in “One Elle of a Day” he aced that challenge too. Full disclosure: I voted for him in this poll too.
But that’s not to take anything away from his competitors. I admire Hester Sunshine‘s fearless whimsy and Garo Sparo‘s edgy subculture corsetry. They’ve been more hit-and-miss than the reliable Grey, but some of their hits have been home runs and both would be worthy winners if they bring their A-game to their final collections. However, only 10% of our readers picked Sunshine as their favorite going into the finale, while the last 8% are rooting for Garo Sparo. Do you agree with those results, or are Grey’s challengers not getting the love they deserve?
