Who won at the 2020 Billboard Music Awards, which were presented live on NBC during an October 14 ceremony hosted by Kelly Clarkson? Scroll down for the complete list of winners in all categories, updated live as they were announced.
These kudos were originally scheduled for April, but the coronavirus pandemic forced them to postpone. But after several months of delay the show went ahead just like other recent events that had to revamp in order to protect public safety, including the Emmys, the MTV Video Music Awards and the Academy of Country Music Awards.
Post Malone went into the BBMAs with the most nominations: 16 across 15 categories, including Top Artist. Lil Nas X followed with 13 bids thanks in no small part to the historic reign of “Old Town Road,” his collaboration with Billy Ray Cyrus that spent a record-breaking 19 weeks on top of the Hot 100.
Billie Eilish and Khalid were next in line, tied with 12 noms each. Eilish had a particularly strong run during the eligibility period, topping the Billboard albums chart with “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” and the singles chart with “Bad Guy.” Khalid, meanwhile, is being honored for his accomplishments with the album “Free Spirit” and single “Talk.”
Joining Post Malone, Eilish and Khalid in the Top Artist category were the Jonas Brothers and Taylor Swift, though remember that this eligibility period ended well before Swift released her surprise album “Folklore,” so her nominations revolved around the album she released last summer, “Lover.”
The BBMAs are different from peer-group awards like the Grammys and ACMs, which are voted on by members of the music industry, and others like the VMAs that are voted on by the general public. Instead, these results were decided by album sales, track sales, streaming performance, touring performance and social engagement, the same metrics used to determine the weekly Billboard charts.
