2020 Oscars calendar: Academy Awards nominations voting starts on January 2 and runs for 6 days

On January 2, the motion picture academy turns on the website that allows its 8,469 members to cast their votes for the Oscars online. For the first time, this will be the only way for voters to weigh in with their nominations. Last year marked the final time that the academy put paper ballots into the post for those members who requested to fill them in by hand.

They only have six days to decide on their picks for best pic at the Oscars as well as their favorite achievements in their respective branches. This is the shortest voting period ever, down from eight days in each of the past two years and nine in 2017.

We’ve already heard from the actors. On the day after Academy Awards balloting begins, the cinematographers reveal their slate of contenders. And prior to the Jan. 7 deadline for this first stage of voting for the Oscars, four more guilds — directors, producers, writers and visual effects wizards — will announce theirs.

All of the key dates on the Oscars calendar are detailed below. Winners events are in gold while nomination announcements are italicized.
