The Masked Singer” sat out last week due to the 2020 World Series, but now it’s returned with an entirely new roster of secret celebrities. Broccoli, Jellyfish, Lips, Mushroom and Squiggly Monster all took the stage on Wednesday night as members of the yet-unseen Group C. This costumed quintet performed their hearts out in front of a virtual audience and panelists Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy and Nicole Scherzinger, but who ended up with the lowest number of votes? 8:00 p.m. — “Previously on ‘The Masked Singer’!” In the fourth episode, none of the panelists correctly guessed retired NFL player Mark Sanchez was Baby Alien, making it one of the most shocking reveals this season. “Sharing this experience with my little man,” he revealed in his unmasked interview with host Nick Cannon. The other Group B celebs (Crocodile, Seahorse, Serpent and Whatchamacallit) all advanced to the next round, so we’ll see them another day. But tonight is all about Group C, so let’s go!

8:10 p.m. – Kicking things off is Squiggly Monster, who appears to be a showman based on his walk alone. He chose the Squiggly Monster costume because people always roll their eyes at him, but now he can roll all of his at them. We see some chocolate chip cookies and he describes himself as a worry wart and someone of high energy. He’s no dumbo and calls himself “easy on the eyes.” Tonight he’s singing “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” by Creedence Clearwater Revival. He’s got a decent voice but not at the caliber that makes me certain he’s a professional singer. In fact, I’d say he’s probably not. Who does the panel think he is? Robin is guessing Ray Romano based on the “father figure” comments and comedic elements. Jenny thinks it’s Al Franken while Ken is certain it’s Dr. Anthony Fauci. Ken is a mess!

8:20 p.m. – Next up is the Mushroom. Mushroom saunters out gracefully and gives pure eleganza! Mushroom started out underground in the rat race, in a job that may surprise us. Then the world turned upside down and she got her shot to turn a hobby into a career. At first her talent went unrecognized, but she kept growing and growing until she finally got to be in the “shroom” where it happens. Lots of “Hamilton” references here folks! Tonight Mushroom is singing “This Woman’s Work” by Maxwell. Wow! Mushroom can sing. And there’s a twist, because although Mushroom is in a dress, it sounds like a male’s voice. The panel is blown away by that performance. Nicole called it the most “transcending” performance ever on the show. Nicole thinks Mushroom could be Donald Glover. Ken is going with Usher based on a “Star Search” clue. Jenny wraps up the guesses with Frank Ocean.

8:30 p.m. – The third singer tonight is the Jellyfish and she’s got some serious attitude! I already like this one. We see Instagram almost immediately, so she’s probably some type of social influencer. She mentioned a fairy tale and said she once reigned supreme over an entire underwater kingdom. It looks like Jellyfish is also wearing a tiara at some points. As an adult, she enjoys being free, so perhaps she was a child star? Tonight Jellyfish is singing “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Fergie. She seems a bit nervous and has the least seasoned voice of the night. She’s definitely not a professional singer (and if she is, I’m so sorry Jellyfish!). Robin gets the vibe that she’s a young, accomplished athlete and guesses Gabby Douglas. Ken makes another ridiculous choice, Awkwafina and Nicole thinks it could be Sofia Richie.

8:40 p.m. – There’s only two singers left from Group C and now it’s Broccoli’s turn to take the stage. Broccoli enters with a sense of humor and this could be a comedian. We see some soup, dogs and a reference to Tik Tok. We also see some mariachi men and he is riding around in a car with a license plate reading “Ladies Man.” Tonight he’s singing “House is Rockin’/Whole Lotta Shakin’ Going On” by Stevie Ray Vaughan/Jerry Lee Lewis. He sounds like an older guy but he’s got a lot of energy and a decent voice. Nicole thinks it might be an older, seasoned performer like Bill Murray. Jenny guesses Howie Mandell and Robin says it’s Steve Guttenberg.

8:50 p.m. – The last performer of Group C is Lips. She gets rolled out on a lounge chaise lounge chair, diva! We see an image of a Kangaroo and various images of leopard print. She says she has a big mouth and loves making waves. We also see a disco ball and Lips says she’s been entertaining the world for decades, but her fans will be shocked to see her here. Tonight Lips is singing “Native New Yorker” by Odyssey. I can instantly tell this is Wendy Williams. It’s so obvious! And she’s a complete mess. Group C definitely just came for the party, because Mushroom was the only real singer in this crew. Lips is a disaster, but at least she gives us a good laugh. Was Lips’ identity as obvious to the panel as it was to me? Robin thinks it’s Sandra Bernhard, Jenny is with me guessing Wendy Williams and Nicole agrees. Ken is way off the mark once again, guessing Allison Janney.

8:59 p.m. – The votes are in and it’s time for the first member of Group C to be eliminated. The singer who must unmask is Lips! Before Lips pulls off her mask, the panel must reveal their first impression and final guesses. Ken’s first impression guess was Mariah Carey, but changes his final guess to Allison Janney. Robin’s first impression was Sandra Bernhard and he sticks with that. Jenny’s first impression guess was Wendy Williams and Jenny is holding strong. Nicole echoed Jenny. At last, Lips pulls off her mask and it is indeed, shock jock turned TV host, Wendy Williams! That means Jenny and Nicole just scored another point in their quest for the Golden Ear trophy. That’s a wrap for tonight.
