Name a year and Zach Laws will not only tell you what won at the Oscars, but also what lost. More importantly, he’ll tell you what should’ve been nominated. A movie, TV, book, and theater fanatic from the time he could talk, Zach is always hoping the academy will recognize the year’s best (or, at the very least, keep themselves from rewarding the year’s worst). He watches with bated breath as contenders rise and fall throughout the season, and is always eager to go out on a limb or two in his predictions. After all, where’s the fun in playing it safe? While he’ll be forever rankled by Peter Sellers losing Best Actor for “Being There” (to name but just one academy injustice), he thinks “Moonlight” winning Best Picture is a step in the right direction. More than anything, he likes to be surprised by something new and exciting on the big screen, and hopes the academy doesn’t ignore it.
