The 18th Annual Gold Derby TV Awards nominations were announced on Thursday, July 8, honoring the best achievements in television from June 2020 through May 2021 (as well as hanging episodes of shows that finished airing their seasons this June). More than 1,400 Gold Derby users cast their votes, so which shows and performers did they single out for recognition? Watch our announcement video above and scroll down for the full list of nominations in all 30 categories. You can vote for the winners right now; the deadline to get your ballots in is August 1.
Far and away the top nominee among all programs is “The Crown,” which has a remarkable 16 nominations. That includes Best Drama Series, two lead actresses, four supporting actresses and four episodes up for Drama Episode of the Year. Its seven Drama Series rivals are “The Alienist: Angel of Darkness,” “Bridgerton,” “The Boys,” “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Lovecraft Country,” “The Mandalorian” and “Pose.”
On top of that, one of those “Crown” lead actresses, Emma Corrin, earned additional nominations for Performer of the Year and Breakthrough Performer of the Year. Those categories aren’t associated with any one particular show (some performers had multiple programs this past season), but Corrin’s performance as Princess Diana was undoubtedly the driving force for her nominations in those races, so in a sense “The Crown” has 18 nominations.
“Ted Lasso” didn’t do too shabby either. It’s nominated 12 times, more than any other comedy — plus Comedy Supporting Actress nominee Hannah Waddingham is also up for Breakthrough Performer of the Year. It battles for Best Comedy Series against “Cobra Kai,” “The Flight Attendant,” “Girls5eva,” “Hacks,” “Love, Victor,” “PEN15” and “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.”
Leading the way among variety programs is “Saturday Night Live” with nine noms including Best Variety Sketch Series against “A Black Lady Sketch Show” and “Tiffany Haddish Presents: They Ready.” And the top long-form program is “Mare of Easttown” with six bids including Best Limited Series, where it contends alongside “The Haunting of Bly Manor,” “It’s a Sin,” “I May Destroy You,” “The Queen’s Gambit” and “WandaVision.”
So cast your votes now! You can only choose your overall top choice in each category (as opposed to the nominations round, where you could rank contenders in order of preference). If you’re voting on a desktop computer, grab the contender from the left column and add to the right column by clicking on the green + symbol. If making your picks on a mobile device, press down on each category line and a menu of options will pop up. Feel free to edit your ballot as often as you like. None of your choices are final until voting closes. See instructions. Read contest rules.
