“The Masked Dancer” is an even bigger hit than the “The Masked Singer.” Turns out people love watching celebrities dancing in costumes and trying to guess who are hidden under those elaborate masks. We’ve been doing some detective work and think we’ve uncovered the real names of the contestants. This first season of “The Masked Dancer” kicked off with 10 contenders masquerading as Cotton Candy, Cricket, Disco Ball, Exotic Bird, Hammerhead, Ice Cube, Moth, Sloth, Tulip and Zebra. Each of them was hoping to impress the four judges (Paula Abdul, Brian Austin Green, Ken Jeong and Ashley Tisdale) enough with their toe-tapping that they would move on in the competition and perhaps, ultimately, win the coveted Diamond Mask.
Only six celebrities remain in the hunt for the season 1 championship. The first to be sent home was Disco Ball, who turned out to be rapper and actor Ice-T (“Law & Order: SVU”). Next for the chop was Ice Cube, who was Bill Nye, “The Science Guy.” He was followed out the door by Moth, who was really Elizabeth Smart, the abductee who is now an advocate for missing children. The last to leave to date was Cricket, who was Brian McKnight, the singer/songwriter.
