As the World Turns deserved it’s Emmys.

Best Actress had 3 deserving winners: Byrne, who won, Barr and Walker, who lost. I would have voted for Marcy Walker as Liza Colby.

Best Actor had 3 deserving winners: Canary, won won, Eplin and Hensley, who lost. Boy, that’s a tough one! Think I would have voted for David Canary.

Supporting Actress that year went to Lesli Kay as Molly, but I would have voted for Maura West as Carly (albeit she was clearly lead imo), and Colleen Zenk got her first nomination too (also clearly a lead imo).

Michael E Knight was great but I would have voted for the late great Benjamin Hendrickson as Hal, Hunt Block as Craig, or Michael Park as Jack (although those last two were really leads imo).

Younger Actress went to Adrienne Frantz, but for me I think this was the first year Eden Riegel was nominated, and Annie Parisse was great too.

Younger Actor went to Justin Torkildsen, who I didn’t find to be particularly interesting. I would have gone with either of the two David’s – Lago and Tom – from Y&R.

Writing and Directing both ought to have gone to As the World Turns – Hogan Sheffer brought ATWT back to creative life in 2000 after a few years where the show was good but not great.

Disappointed by the poor showing of One Life To Live for the year 2000, but happy with the predominance of New York based soaps in the nominations!

<p style=”text-align: left;”>Justin Torkildsen’s win makes sense. In his reel Rick ripped Amber to shreds for lying about Little Eric being their son and his other reel was a conversation between Deacon & Rick about Rick and Amber keeping little Eric. Frantz deserved her win as well. Amber broke my heart when she had to let little Eric go with Deacon and Amber explaining to Rick that Becky was Little Eric’s real mom. ATWT deserved it’s wins for Best Drama Series and Writing for David Stenbecks funeral and Lily & Rose find out about their births from Iva (Martha Byrne won for those episodes). Canary won for Stuart telling a jailed Adam he wants nothing to do with him and Adam grieves as he mourns Stuart (who wasn’t dead). Knight won for Tad blasting Dixie for her affair with David Hayward. Kay won for telling Abigail how her dad made her give her away and a episode where Molly finds Vicky and Jake’s twins with a ghost Vicky guiding her.</p>

Great Ceremony, but 2000 was a disappointing year for soaps after a great year in 1999.

    ATWT and AMC were awesome

Passions was fun, but the acting was bad even by soap standards

As far as the Emmy winners this is one of the rare years that I agree with all the winners

In 2001, I was all about AMC and OLTL. They were my favorites at the time. I liked GH but was finding it a bit stale at that point.
