Days of our Lives
Outstanding Younger Actor
Casey Moss – JJ Devereux
Outstanding Supporting Actress
Camila Banus – Gabi HernandezGabi comes to see JJ just as he’s headed off to the Horton Town Square to end his life in the same place where he shot Theo. She realizes what he’s doing and eventually convinces him not to go through with his suicide attempt, for now.
Really beautiful performances from these two in Thursday’s episode, just really heart-wrenching work. For me, Wednesday’s episode, very well written and really nicely executed with the supplemental flashbacks that were added, was a perfect setup for the gut punch of watching JJ’s despair and hopelessness even in the face of everything Gabi was doing to pull him out of it. Gabi reading the letters JJ had written was a great touch. Casey Moss has been so incredible in this storyline. Watching him in these two episodes, his hands trembling as he tried to unbutton his shirt, his body looking so slight compared to the way he and soap opera men in general are typically portrayed, it just felt very real. And Camila Banus was fantastic in her interactions with him. Truly excellent work.
ReplyCopy URLDecember 29, 2017 at 5:05 am #1202451049now that the calendar year 2017 is over I am posting who I personally would nominate for the Daytime Emmys. I found the category of Best Actor the hardest to come up with my final 5. I absolutely love my nominees in Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. I struggled with a few; who knows if all these performers will submit and if they do will they submit in the categories I believe they belong in? Just for fun, these are my dream ballot nominees!
Best Daytime Drama Series:
Days Of Our Lives
The Young and the RestlessThese are the only 2 shows I would nominate – Y&R was the best of the first half of the year and Days was the best of the second half.
Best Actress:
Eileen Davidson (Ashley, The Young and the Restless)
Deidre Hall (Marlena and Hattie, Days Of Our Lives
Rena Sofer (Quinn, The Bold and the Beautiful)
Maura West (Ava, General Hospital)
Arianne Zucker (Nicole, Days Of Our Lives)I could be really happy with any of these 5 actresses winning the Emmy this year. This is the only category where each of the 4 soaps is represented by me.
Best Actor:
Billy Flynn (Chad, Days Of Our Lives)
Daniel Goddard (Cane, The Young and the Restless)
Eric Martsolf (Brady, Days Of Our Lives)
John McCook (Eric, The Bold and the Beautiful)
Freddie Smith (Sonny, Days Of Our Lives)This was the hardest category for me. Lead Actors have been somewhat weak in 2017.
Best Supporting Actress:
Marla Adams (Dina, The Young and the Restless)
Judi Evans (Adrienne and Bonnie, Days Of Our lives)
Camryn Grimes (Mariah, The Young and the Restless)
Lauren Koslow (Kate, Days Of Our Lives)
Alison Sweeney (Sami, Days Of Our Lives)I would be ecstatic if any of these 5 were to win! I simply can’t make up my mind between Judi and Ali, who were both phenomenal and deserving of Emmy recognition.
Best Supporting Actor:
Bryan Datillo (Lucas, Days Of Our Lives)
Chandler Massey (Will, Days Of Our Lives)
Christopher Sean (Paul, Days Of Our Lives)
Greg Vaughan (Eric, Days Of Our Lives)
Robert Scott Wilson (Ben, Days Of Our Lives)All 5 are from Days. I can’t make up my mind between Bryan, Chandler and Greg. I could also be happy with John Aniston, James Reynolds and Greg Rikaart, who all did terrific work in 2017 as well.
Best Younger Actress:
Lexi Ainsworth (Kristina, General Hospital)
Reign Edwards (Nicole, The Bold and the Beautiful)
Hayley Erin (Kiki, General Hospital)
Chloe Lanier (Nelle, General Hospital)
Eden McCoy (Josslyn, General Hospital)While I have not been happy with GH this year, they do have the best and most talented younger actresses on daytime.
Best Younger Actor:
Lucas Adams (Tripp, Days Of Our Lives)
Nicolas Bechtel (Spencer, General Hospital)
Pierson Fode (Thomas, The Bold and the Beautiful)
James Lastovic (Joey, Days Of Our Lives)
Casey Moss (J.J., Days Of Our Lives)The easiest category to choose a winner: Casey Moss deserves the Emmy for his work at the end of 2017 (:
Best Directing:
The Bold and the Beautiful
Days Of Our Lives
General Hospital
The Young and the RestlessAll 4 shows are incredibly well directed and any show could win based on submissions. I am rooting for Days, which has never won since the first year back in 1974 and it’s team has never won at all.
Best Writing:
Days Of Our Lives (Ron Carlivati)
The Young and the Restless (Sally Sussman and Kay Alden)These are the two shows that were consistently well written in 2017; the first half of the year, before Mal Young took over, for Y&R and the 2nd half of the year, when Ron Carlivati took over the reigns at Days.
So 16 of my 30 acting nominations go to Days! (: and Days wins all but one category for me. Historically the blue ribbon panels go for Y&R and not for Days. This might be different this year? Time will tell..

Pierson FodeDecember 29, 2017 at 9:43 am #120245122321 out of 30 are on both our lists. most of the ones you would nominate are on my 5 runners-up lists from each category (: I continue to love my soaps, flawed as they can often be (;
ReplyCopy URLDecember 29, 2017 at 5:59 pm #1202451472I too created my list without referring to yours, Freeman. I used cast lists and then looked back at our submissions through the year to see if I missed anyone.

Eden McCoy, General HospitalDecember 29, 2017 at 6:45 pm #1202451515^we only have four different actors. 3 of those 4 were in my 5 runners-up; I guess I just don’t get Scott Clifton’s Liam and find him boring while others enjoy his work more than I do. Great list robbalto! (:
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 2, 2018 at 5:18 pm #1202454007Thanks Freeman! Our lists are amazingly similar! As far as Scott Clifton, I do not always like Liam or his story, but I think Clifton does great work. His performances are very immersive and nuanced.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 3, 2018 at 9:34 am #1202454473Great lists, guys! I don’t think I watched quite enough soaps overall to construct my own list, but I don’t find any of these choices objectionable, not even Scott Clifton, whose character consistently drives me up the wall.
I will add, though, that I’d consider DAYS’ Victoria Konafel and Kyler Pettis (Ciara and Theo) in the younger categories. Konafel’s only been on for a few weeks, but has made a strong impression and been great so far. Pettis didn’t have too many big scenes but I think has really done well with what he’s been given and has made his character the most consistently likable among the under 25 set over the past year.
