There are several jaw-droppers in this article about Friday’s telecast! The biggest one is that all of the nominees have been asked to make acceptance speeches in advance and only the winner’s speech will be seen (this is incredibly weird!) and that the whole thing is being taped ahead of time rather than being live! Also, it says 15 categories and not 18 categories??? Here is the article:
How The Virtual Daytime Emmys Came Together And Will Look and Feel

June 25, 2020 at 8:53 am #1203551344Don’t love how all nominees had to tape an acceptance speech…I suppose that in the grand scheme of things, it does make sense. I could only imagine the logistical nightmare behind something like this being live…as great as Zoom has become, you never know what can go wrong.
Looking at the Daytime Emmys Twitter feed, there is a definite strong bias to CBS. Aside from them hosting, it would be nice to see content for DAYS and GH. I really hope this isn’t a sign of what to expect tomorrow night.

Yes! I loved those! They should consider bringing those back, honestly. The ratings for most shows on a Friday night are pretty low, and imagine the excitement of a Friday cliffhanger leading into a primetime episode with an even bigger cliffhanger right before the Emmys. That would be fun to see with any of the four soaps.
I’d heard on last week’s Soap Opera Digest podcast about the acceptance speeches being pre-taped for everyone. Thaao Penghlis mentioned having Lauren Koslow and her husband, who is one of the makeup artists at DAYS, over to help fix him up and tape his speech. Clearly this is something that was not known when SOD was interviewing all the nominees and asking if they were going to prepare a speech. The pre-taped element of the show is kind of a shame, but I see why it’s necessary. It would have been cooler if they could have just conducted the awards privately for the nominees a day or two in advance and then edited and aired that tomorrow night, so responses were genuine and spontaneous but they didn’t have to make things work on the fly. It must be kind of annoying to present a category and have no idea who won!
The Daytime Emmy Twitter account is probably heavy on CBS content because CBS seems to be the only network really leaning into posting about the Emmys. GH has been busy promoting its classic episodes, and DAYS is just running business as usual for the most part.
June 25, 2020 at 10:30 am #1203551566I remember the primetime episode of OLTL where Todd Manning was wearing a bomb and holding half of Llanview hostage until Rachel (Nora & Hank’s daughter) confessed to killing Georgie (a crazy woman trying to break up Nora & Bo). EPIC! I miss those.
June 25, 2020 at 1:56 pm #1203551931I read that those episodes were always fraught with tension to produce because if you had a pre emption you were screwed plot wise. Which makes sense especially given how much “Breaking News” we have had in the last year.
June 25, 2020 at 8:54 pm #1203552352Yeah, I can see that. Or you take the DAYS approach and pretend pre-emptions don’t exist.
June 26, 2020 at 1:37 am #1203552510The performer nominees ought to act surprised in their pre-taped acceptance speeches as they act out the role of an actor winning an Emmy! Today’s Emmys are going to be fascinating! Since it is pre-taped there will be no danger of it running over-time! (; I am excited but also have trepidation too! I’m just hoping that a few of my favorites win tonight and there aren’t any really huge disappointments!
June 26, 2020 at 7:40 am #1203552847I’ve already prepared myself for a few upsets and surprises. I think I’m going to go to the store to get some wine a little later. I remember when i watched the 2006 Daytime Emmys (I was 16) I was kinda tipsy and everyone I wanted to win won but Y&R didn’t win Best Drama Series over GH. The wine helped with the shock but I eventually got over it.
I’m still pulling for Y&R for best drama series but if Days wind I’ll be equally happy cause it’s my favorite soap. I’m pulling for Jason Thompson for Lead Actor but if Thorsten Kaye or Jon Lindstrom wind I’ll be ok with that decision as well. If Katherine Kelly Lang or Arianne Zucker wins Lead Actress I’ll be over the moon but if Maura West wins I’ll be ok with that because I’m a fan of her work. Supporting Actor is a tricky category. I’m pulling for Mark Grossman, Bryton James, and Chandler Massey but if James Patrick Stuart or Paul Telfer or Wally Kurth take home the gold I’ll be equally happy. Supporting Actress is another tricky one. I’m pulling for Annika Noelle but if Christel Khalil or Susan Seaforth Hayes wins I’ll be happy because I’m fans of them all. I honestly think Olivia Rose Keegan has Younger Performer in the bag but if Sasha Calle or Eden McCoy wins I’ll be ok with that decision as well. I go backwards and forwards with Best Writing but I think either B&B or Days is gonna win that award. GH has Directing in the bag. I’m just excited it’s on tv this year. Good luck to all the nominees.
June 26, 2020 at 8:07 am #1203552904I’m just waiting for tonight to get here. The waiting has been awful

Do you find yourself going backwards and forwards on who might win? I wish we could see the whole reels because I think we’re all in for a few shockers. Maybe there’s something in certain actor’s reels we didn’t know was there. I looked up certain episodes actors picked and I enjoyed what I saw based off what certain actors said was on their reel.
I don’t remember who said something about KKL but the few times she’s been nominated Thorsten Kaye nor Hunter Tylo were in her reels nor were they even mentioned in her reels. She had Susan Flannery and Don Diamont in her reels and the storylines were different. This is the first time she’s actually had either actor in her reel and she did a hell of a job playing opposite them. If it’s her time, it’s her time. She did one hell of a job. She also has Denise Richards in her reel as well.

Yes. Kinda.
I still have Y&R for Best Drama and GH for Directing. Even though, I have Y&R for Writing, I have a feeling B&B will win that which wouldn’t bother me one bit.As far as acting, I will stick to my predictions. I agree, we will probably see upsets.

Who are your acting predictions once more?
June 26, 2020 at 9:54 am #1203553050I wonder if any of our 3 Goldies winners will repeat with Emmys tonight? Maura West for Best Actress, Jon Lindstrom (who won our Supporting Actor Goldie) for Best Actor, and/or Eden McCoy, who won our Best Younger Actress? The Goldies for Series, Directing and Writing all went to GH… (Roger Howarth and Suzanne Rogers probably didn’t submit, Garen Stitt wasn’t nominated nor was Robin Strasser – our other Goldies winners for 2019).
Arianne Zucker, Chandler Massey, Paul Telfer, Tamara Braun, Olivia Rose Keegan and Katelyn MacMullen were all among our Goldies nominees too….

Jason Thompson (Y&R) for Lead Actor.
Katherine Kelly Lang (B&B) for Lead Actress. Maybe Maura West might win.
Christel Khalil (Y&R) for Supporting Actress. I can see Annika Noelle or Susan Seaforth Hayes winning this too.
Bryton James (Y&R) for Supporting Actor. I do love Mark Grossman and Chandler Massey’s reel.
Olivia Rose Keegan (DAYS) for Younger Actor.
Michael E. Knight (GH) for Guest PerformerWhy are you reporting this post? (optional):Not now
