Alison Sweeney Back to DAYS! (Long Stint!)

Our sister site Deadline broke the news earlier today that Alison Sweeney will be returning to DAYS when production resumes next week, before her current stint has even finished airing! Sweeney’s new arrangement will have her back on the air later this year (her current run will end in September) and airing through most of 2021. Given the timeline, it seems that Sami, like Rafe and Gabi, will be off screen briefly sometime in the next few weeks and then return when the show’s newly-filmed episodes begin airing in October.

I’m thrilled about this for a number of reasons. It’s always great to have Sami around to shake things up. It also hopefully means that the show will do something more definitive about EJ than their current strategy of having him be an off-screen convalescent patient in Sami’s eternal care. The article says she’ll be involved in an emotional story with Allie, which, okay sure, but I can’t wait to see what else she gets up to and I really hope she gets a chance to stick it to Nicole.

It has already been such a treat having Sami back and livening up the canvas these last couple weeks, so the fact that Alison Sweeney is extending her stay for the long-term is such fantastic news and exactly the shot in the arm that DAYS will need on the heels of Kristian Alfonso’s impending exit.

I’m starting to get a little worried that there’s been so little word on when Alison Sweeney will be back, especially with a dozen other people showing up in the holiday preview. I wonder if Sweeney had said she’d be back when it seemed like things other than soaps wouldn’t really be filming for a while, but then most other productions started back up and she had Hallmark commitments to honor. I know she was filming a Hallmark movie with Kristian Alfonso a month or two ago, so I wouldn’t be surprised if her availability has shifted.
