Peter Bergman took over the role of Jack Abbott in 1989. That was a very successful recast too. I liked Terry Lester though. And liked Peter as Cliff Warner on AMCJune 16, 2021 at 4:41 pm #1204303351

I was going down the YouTube rabbit hole. It seemed like Terry Lester was a fan favorite. Why did he leave the show?June 16, 2021 at 6:07 pm #1204303436
He felt like his role on the show was decreasing (while younger cast members like Lauralee Bell’s were increasing). Though ironically when Peter Bergman joined, Jack became a major character againJune 18, 2021 at 11:07 am #1204307149
Yes, apparently the Bill Bell philosophy was that the best way to make a recast work was to give them a story so good, that the audience had no choice but to be on board. This certainly seemed to work well enough for Bergman, who started winning Emmys immediately and has enjoyed decades as a central figure on the show.June 29, 2021 at 5:46 pm #1204323745
My Best Recasts:
—Robin Strasser on OLTL as Dorian. She truly is the definitive Dr. Dorian Cramer Lord.
—Erica Slezak on OLTL as Victoria “Viki” Lord. I think she clearly turned this role into her own, and many people often forget that she was not only a recast but was the third actress to play the role after Gillian Spencer exited the role and her recast Joanne Dorian was not successful in the role.
—Heather Tom as Katie Logan on B&B: Tom is obviously a fantastic actress, and brought a fairly minor character into the forefront and turned it into one of the series signature characters.
——Julia Barr as Brooke English on AMC: Another actress who many forget was a recast, she was the second actress to play the role after Elissa Leeds briefly played the role. Barr created a memorable character who became a fan favorite.
—–Alicia Minshew as Kendall Hart on AMC: She took on the herculean task of replacing fan favorite and Emmy winner, Sarah Michelle Gellar and pretty much from the start turned this character into her own. She took a vengeful, angry character and managed to turn her into a flesh and blood character who you could root for.
——-Jill Larson as Opal Gardner on AMC: Replacing fan favorite Dorothy Lyman was always going to be a thankless task, but Jill Larson managed to not only create her own take on the character, she herself quickly became a fan favorite.
—Billy Miller as Jason Morgan aka Drew Cain: The idea of recasting Jason was a brilliant idea, and the Drew Cain character ended up being a fantastic addition to the show.
—-Bree Williamson as Jessica Buchanan on OLTL: Erin Torpey had grown up on this show and her exit was a big letdown for fans, but the casting of Bree Williamson ultimately turned out to be a blessing for the show as she brought a more grown up side of Jessica out, that we’d never had accepted from Erin Torpey.
—-Sabine Singh as Greenlee Smythe on AMC: “The Real Greenlee” drama aside, Sabine Singh was not a good recast. She was just “not Greenlee.” Rebecca Budig was too identified with the role.
——Christina Chambers as Marty Saybrooke on OLTL: I like Christina Chambers as an actress, but she is just NOT Marty!
—–Tamara Braun as Carly Corinthos on GH: Tamara Braun is a fine actress, but she just brought such a wimpy side of Carly out. SJB’s Carly was full of energy, anger and life. SJB’s Carly would kick your ass, Tamara Braun’s Carly would whine and say “don’t you know who my husband is.” I think Laura Wright’s Carly is a good combo of both versions of Carly.
—-Kevin Stapleton as Kevin Buchanan on OLTL: I never understood this choice for Kevin. I thought other actors like Timothy Gibbs and Dan Gauthier were more apporpriate for the role.
—Tracey Melchoir as Kelly Cramer on OLTL: She was just the wrong choice for this role.
—Marie Elise Recanser as Ellen Burgess on Port Charles: Replacing Debbie Morgan was never going to be easy, but man did they go in a totally different direction with this choice.June 30, 2021 at 5:39 pm #1204325127
Poor charity Rahmer! I mean she wasn’t wooden necessarily but everything she did was just wrong.
Christel Kalil is very good as Lily Winters. In many ways she is lily. But Davetta Sherwood was just extremely extremely good.
So many actors have played Thomas on bold and the beautiful it’s kind of funny but just when I thought they found a great one with pierson fode Matthew Atkinson is cast and it’s like “this is it! This is Thomas!”
