Cady McClain Replaces Melissa Reeves as Jennifer on DAYS!

Several sources are confirming that Melissa Reeves has opted not to return to filming DAYS amid the pandemic and that Cady McClain has already begun filming as our new Jennifer Rose Horton. I suppose this isn’t shocking, given that Melissa lives in Tennessee and has a new grandbaby with another soon on the way. (Maybe she also figures she can like whatever social media posts she wants to in peace if she’s not on screen anymore?) A spokesperson for the show has said the change is temporary, but some are skeptical about that, considering that’s what they said about Brandon Barash, and look how that’s turned out. I think Days is saying that it’s temporary right now so the right-wingers don’t go crazy saying she was fired for her social media posts. I’m sure Cady is here to stay.

It wouldn’t be surprising if Melissa was fired and she probably was. Because of the reaction of Godfrey reeves can be seen as a toxic person on set. So her being fired was coming

I don’t care what anybody says, this is a huge loss. Reeves made the character of Jennifer what she is. She may only have 2 emmy nominations, but she should have way more, and at least one on her mantle, i hope this is just temporary and she comes back.

I am not surprised by the exit.

I am not surprised by the recast.

I am not generally tuning in the network daytime soaps like I used to. So, I cannot opine on specific qualities on NBC’s Days of Our Lives.

It is difficult not to perceive a form of politics playing a role in this. Some will say politics is everywhere. But, I would guess that Days of Our Lives and Melissa Reeves—at least one of the two parties—no longer felt a continuation (for the time being) was necessary. So, they have parted ways. (Again—for the time being.)

I agree that it’s a big loss on screen. As much as I was vocally not a fan of her politics and still feel the show is perfectly entitled to make whatever decision in that regard they wanted, I’ll miss having her on the show. That said, I’m really not convinced politics played much of a part. I can believe the idea of going back to the show felt less appealing to her considering that some of her co-stars had publicly denounced views she was supporting, but it’s not like Jennifer has a ton of scenes with Sarah, Xander or Eli. Scott Reeves was interviewed on the SOD podcast a few weeks ago, and the way he talked about Missy’s involvement with their new grandson and potential involvement with the grandchild they’re expecting makes it very easy for me to believe that traveling to and from California during a pandemic is not something she wants to be doing right now.

But I do think Cady will be around for a good while. It this were just a matter of a few weeks, I’d expect the show to just have Jennifer off screen — hardly any explanation would even be necessary considering she’s not really heavily involved in any storyline. I’m interested to see what Cady will do. Though this is also an interesting contrast to the Kristian Alfonso situation, where, if I were DAYS, I would probably have brought in a temporary recast of Hope at the very least to write the character out, if nothing more.

It was said somewhere that with the return to taping in September, that the show had a big upcoming storyline for jack and Jennifer, so i guess they needed a recast right away, and just letting reeves be off canvas for a few weeks, wasn’t an option.

I hope Ms. Reeves stays off the show permanently. While there have been times when I have enjoyed her work as an actress, it’s hard to watch her now that I know more about her off-screen behavior. It also upsets me how we lose almost every character I care about yet Jack and Jennifer and Steve and Kayla remain to annoy me no end!!!

I always enjoy Cady McClain and look forward to seeing what she brings to the show.
