The Writers Guild of America has nominated 3 soaps for Best Writing in Daytime Drama: Days Of Our Lives, General Hospital and The Young and the Restless.

Personally I would vote for GH for two of its stories from early in the year: Ryan’s reign of terror and Oscar’s death. It all depends on which episodes each of the 3 has submitted of course.

I think GH ought to submit the Oscar’s death episodes, and Y&R should submit from Neil’s death. I can’t come up with a particular standout as far as writing is concerned for Days? My favorite episode this year was more about production, direction and acting performances (the Nicole is Kristen reveal).

The Kristen reveal was among the best episodes this year, and even though it was more about the overall episode than the writing, it was among the strongest writing over the year as well. The episode where the time jump actually happens might be a good one to submit. There’s some nice stuff because of the anniversary, and then the reveal at the end that Jennifer’s been in a coma for a year.

This is voted on by a committee and not by the membership-at-large. I have many issues with the committee voted categories, that I can’t really speak about.

Interesting. I have no idea how the WGA voting works. Every year when nominees come out, I wonder briefly, but then forget about it because it’s always in the middle of a bunch of other awards stuff.

Congrats to Y&R on its WGA win! The writing on all four shows was really strong last year, and with B&B’s shocking snub (still baffling – and which hopefully the Emmys will redeem with a win – as it deserved the award for so intricately crafting what was undoubtedly daytime’s best story of 2019), I could have seen it go to any of the three contenders.

Congrats to Y&R on the win. While I find the WGA’s voting methods for daytime to be somewhat dubious (at least based on the results), at least they, unlike the DGA, still bother to have a dedicated daytime category, which I appreciate.
