The thing that always gave Paramount Plus a leg up on Peacock was their Star Trek content (especially producing the new shows like Picard and Discovery). There just isn’t anything comparable in the NBC/Universal vault for that fanbase.

The fact that Peacock keeps ordering more and more Beyond Salem just shows it’s been a big success on the platform. As for Days, we’ll have to see how it goes. All of the other networks will be looking to see how it does and I think that will make the decision if the other soaps will follow it to streaming.

Yes, both Paramount Plus and Disney Plus have done a great job of taking established and very popular franchises and producing new exclusive content that interacts with the existing material to draw subscribers. It feels like Universal must have something they could try to capitalize on in that way, even without the deep lore and expansive world that something like Star Trek presents.

But maybe DAYS and its spinoff content will help Peacock find its voice. Given all of the Bravo content that’s available on the platform, it’s the best fit for a soap opera among the major streamers.

I saw today that Peacock partly because of this is going to offer $2 monthly subscriptions and $20 for a year for new customers so maybe that will help and it sounds good that there is an attempt to meet the fans halfway. I still feel nervous about this.

I was originally in the camp that this was a mercy move to save Days from cancelation, but the more I dwell on it this could be a game changer for the soap genre.

I read some of the youtube comments for the promos, and it seems like some older viewers are jumping ship for financial reasons.  I think this is NBC’s and Peacock’s fault for the abrupt announcement.

They gave their audience only a month to prepare for the switch. I can’t blame the viewers for being upset.

I’ve seen a bunch of youtube videos with DAYS stars urging fans to watch on Peacock and what looked like a recent one with Billy Flynn showing Bill and Susan Seaforth Hayes how to get Peacock. These are nice, but I hope they’re showing similar things on the air during the show and not just on youtube, which is a bit like preaching to the choir.

BTW, I’ve been absent around here mostly because I’ve been out of town for a couple of weeks and thus behind on soaps. I should be back and caught up next week!

A bright side for us canadians! It looks as though once Days of our lives goes from NBC to Peacock. It looks as though in Canada, it will be going from Global TV to the W network. I don’t know how credible the news I read is, but if that’s true, then yay!!!

Update: it is true. It’s confirmed right on the w network website!

Soap Opera Digest pledges it will continue covering Days after the 12th.
