DAYS may not be airing for two weeks, but the show is keeping its name out there. I just came across this exciting news from Soap Opera Digest:
Peacock has ordered a limited, five-episode series from DAYS called DAYS OF OUR LIVES: BEYOND SALEM, which will bring back THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF BEVERLY HILLS star Lisa Rinna (ex-Billie). Also featured will be Deidre Hall (Marlena), Drake Hogestyn (John), Jackée Harry (Paulina), James Reynolds (Abe), Victoria Konefal (Ciara), Robert Scott Wilson (Ben), Billy Flynn (Chad), Lamon Archey (Eli) and Sal Stowers (Lani). Additional beloved characters are also set to make appearances. The series’ description reads: John and Marlena travel to Zurich, Ben and Ciara have a romantic getaway in New Orleans, Chad visits some old friends in Phoenix, and Abe, Paulina, Lani, and Eli vacation in Miami. All find themselves embroiled in a mystery involving stolen jewels which, in the wrong hands, could cause dire consequences for Salem. It’s a race against time for ISA agent Billie Reed as she crosses the globe in search of this missing treasure.
This is interesting for a few reasons. I suppose the format of this will be different from what was done for the Chad & Abby in Paris and Last Blast Reunion miniseries that were done for the DOOL app. It’s great that NBC is ordering additional content from DAYS. I guess the show is doing really well with people streaming it on Peacock.
The description suggests a few things that may be happening going forward. It definitely implies a Ben/Ciara reunion soon. (I also love that Ben and Ciara are doing another Bo and Hope thing with the New Orleans trip.) I suppose also that Paulina reconciles with Abe and Lani if they’ll all be vacationing together. And I don’t want to get my hopes up too high, but Chad visiting old friends in Phoenix sounds like we might see Will and/or Sonny (though I think Freddie Smith recently said that he would not come back to DAYS if asked, for what that’s worth). And it’ll be fun to see Lisa Rinna back as Billie.August 2, 2021 at 2:08 pm #1204377599
Casting news: Christie Clark and Austin Peck will be joining the cast; and Zach Tinker will be portraying Sonny Kiriakis… (where is Will???)August 2, 2021 at 2:40 pm #1204377638
Chandler Massey is returning as Will and Greg Rikaart as Leo!August 2, 2021 at 3:11 pm #1204377708
All thrilling news! I’d feel bad if I thought Freddie Smith wanted to come back, but knowing he’s not interested makes me excited to see Zach Tinker in the role. Of course I’m beyond excited for my two favorite characters who aren’t on the show right now, Carrie and Will, to be returning, and always happy to see Austin Peck. I didn’t think we’d ever really see Leo again, so his return is a wonderful surprise.
I really hope that some of this spills over into the main show as well. There are some characters there who I could stand to see rested for a while. I also think that getting new characters to write for could be a good inspiration for Ron to step it up in the writing department (though it’s been better lately).August 2, 2021 at 6:37 pm #1204377992
Eileen Davidson will also be on the limited series!August 2, 2021 at 8:27 pm #1204378190
I didn’t see the news that Chandler Massey is going to be part of the show!!!!! I am super excited!!!! (:August 2, 2021 at 9:19 pm #1204378254
The Eileen Davidson news puts this day over the top in terms of exciting castings! But I wonder who Eileen will be playing. I would love love love for the show to do what I’ve been saying all along and reveal that the character Stacy Haiduk has been playing is a lunatic lookalike and not actually Kristen, but that seems like too much to hope for. But given that Stacy was airing a few weeks ago, it also seems like a stretch for Eileen to be Kristen. But maybe not. It’ll be a while before the series is actually airing.August 3, 2021 at 6:56 am #1204378521

Depends on how much ahead of time they are filming episodes? Stacey only appeared on one episode in July. Your idea is a great one though! Perhaps this will help bring Eileen back for a visit to Days? I really would love for her to interact with Dan’s J.J., particularly as Susan!August 4, 2021 at 12:37 am #1204380126
Wow, DAYS is really bringing out the big guns with all the exciting casting for its limited series! What a gift it is especially to have Eileen Davidson return, regardless of which character she’ll be playing! I’m already so much looking forward to this series!August 5, 2021 at 7:32 pm #1204383326
While I am excited for Eileen to come back, I feel like it’s just going to be a 2 minute cameo of Susan, I can’t see Eileen returning for something more than a cameo, if she’s not planning to return to the show full-time, I sure hope she does though, let Stacy Haiduk play a different villain, she’s a capable actress, but she’s just never been Kristen, just a villain.August 17, 2021 at 4:03 pm #1204401339
I was kind of remembering how the primetime episode of “winter heat” featured a dream sequence that Billie was having while she was on trial, and t he rest was current storyline. I have to wonder if Ben and Ciara’s part in this will actually be happening, or be a dream. Any thoughts on if one part of this might be a fantasy?August 18, 2021 at 8:58 pm #1204403892
^^^ Interesting theory, though I can’t imagine DAYS going to such great length as signing on big talent the likes of Eileen Davidson and Lisa Rinna to star in what would essentially turn out to be only a series of dream sequences. It would be awesome if the events that transpire in the spinoff could somehow be incorporated into future story on the main canvas sometime down the road.
And it looks like we’re in for a Labor Day surprise! SOD posted an official release date for the miniseries on Peacock… Monday, Sept. 6, with new episodes dropping each day through Friday, Sept. 10.
New photos that the network released (including one of Eileen sporting a Cruella de Vil outfit!) can be viewed here:August 20, 2021 at 7:01 am #1204406261
I was thinking about your idea, youngsoapfan, but I also think the events will likely be real. I was thinking about the other miniseries the show did on the DOOL app, which were different because they were short episodes telling a very focused story. The two installments of Chabby in Paris were all real and ultimately did connect back to the main show with Abby and Chad coming back to Salem because of Jennifer’s coma, and even though much of the events of the Last Blast Reunion turned out to be a Jan Spears script brought to life, the show did pick up on both a lot from that, including getting Jay Johnson back on the main show, the rekindled romance between Chloe and Phillip, and Jan coming out of her coma.
Color me SHOCKED that the show is airing so soon! I thought we’d have to wait until late fall. Eileen in that black and white look certainly looks like (her version of) Kristen to me.August 20, 2021 at 3:23 pm #1204407308
^^^ YES! How exciting that Eileen is reprising her role as Kristen!August 24, 2021 at 4:20 am #1204412976
Peter Porte will be playing ISA agent Kyle Graham on the five episode Beyond Salem – he played Ricky, Paul’s evil son, on The Young and the Restless. Not now
