I’m surprised production is scheduled to start again even though no official renewal has been reported yet. The return to work is promising news, though I would have preferred them to wait until April or May and really get their lead time down to something reasonable.

I completely agree with EmmyLoser. In fact, I would take it a step further and schedule the return for August. As producer, I would start a new model where episodes were filmed just a week in advance. I would facilitate venues for fans to respond to online surveys and give plenty of feedback so that the writers could consider the data in their planning. At this point, distinguishing themselves as uniquely responsive to the fans seems like a really smart course of action.

Yea I too would like less of a gap, between filming and airing, but that the same time, I am just happy that they’ll be at least filming again soon, before any of the actors find new projects and don’t want to come back full-time.

What a cool idea, robbalto! I think it would be great for a soap to take that approach, and DAYS would be a good candidate.

    It was renewed in November:

They announced in November that they were close to a renewal, and then last weekend NBC re-emphasized that they have every intention of renewing the show, but nothing is official yet as far as I’ve seen reported, despite the headline and tone of this article and others like it.

I was totally bamboozled by that Hollywood Reporter article. Anyway, glad they renewed the show. I’m sure the big outcry on social media helped push it along.

Yeah well then you’d be killing the show. Corday has been very clear that they have to tape 8 a week to keep their overhead within budget because the budget from NBC simply isn’t there the way it once was.

That’s just the way it is these days and we all need to stop pretending it’s ever going to go back.

I’m so glad the renewal finally happened! What a relief. When word broke they were going back to production without getting the official renewal first, I got slightly paranoid that it wouldn’t happen, despite what everyone was saying.

I do get that DAYS has to film a bunch of episodes at once, and that requires them also to be a certain distance of time removed from their air dates, but I still don’t understand why it needs to be so much time. Can’t it be a couple of months even? Robbalto’s idea may not be practically feasible in those specific terms, but something somewhat close seems possible. But I know it’s not going to happen. At this point, I realistically just hope they find a good method of approximating audience reaction so we don’t have to wait almost a year for them to know we love or hate a certain character or story direction.

Because the studio is used basically on a timeshare basis they literally have to cut several months out of their schedule. GH is the only one that doesn’t because it’s network owned.
