Each year I feel as if something doesn’t always go as planned. I know we all have our favorite shows and actors, but what alot of us have to realize is that the Emmys are given based on the 2 to 4 scenes they pick not who we like better. With that being said, who’s Daytime Emmy wins shocked or disappointed you?

GH winning Drama Series. There are some years where I questioned how GH won! Several shows have picked good reels but GH comes out on top and causes me to scratch my head.

Just thinking about last year, I was shocked that Rome Flynn won younger actor, and consequently disappointed that Casey Moss didn’t win. It seemed like DAYS’ slam dunk win for the year, and they ended up winning a bunch of other Emmys instead. I was also shocked that DAYS took the triple crown of Drama Series, Writing and Directing last year. I really did not expect the directing win.

So many of GHs wins shocked me. I get 1981,1984, 1995, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2005,& 2012, but them winning in 1997 (y&r should have won), 2006 (y&r should have won for Cassie’s death),2008 (GL should have won for Tammy’s funeral and The 70th anniversary episode), 2016 (Y&R should have won), and 2017 (I was pulling for Days).

Sean Blakemore’s win in 2016 was always a head scratcher. His reel wasn’t even Emmy worthy.

I had Rome Flynn at #2 on my list in 2018. His win was shocking because I think we all were pulling for Casey Moss but I looked at both reels again and I see why Moss lost.

Mary Beth Evans’ 2016 win was a shocker but I was happy for her. I was sure that Kassie Depiva was gonna win.

I knew Gina Tognoni would win in 2017 and Eileen Davidson in 2014 and 2018. Most people were shocked though. I was nowhere near shocked. All 3 reels stayed with me that whole time. I couldn’t shake the feeling.

Tony Geary’s win in 2008 always bothered me. The Luke’s trial in hell reel helped him win but I thought Canary or Thaao Penghlis won win.

Sharon Case not being nominated all these years is a crime. What’s that all about?

Melody Thomas Scott never being nominated but once is also a crime when she’s had such good material over the years.

    I’ll think of some more.

2018, Rome Flynn winning Younger Actor. DAYS winning Directing was a SHOCK.

2017, I thought Y&R would win with the 11,000 episode when the cabin blew up with Adam inside and Devon’s car accident but GH won. Scott Clifton winning Lead Actor was a HUGE SHOCK…………. Jim O’Heir winning Guest Performer over Nichelle Nichols

Mary Beth Evans winning in 2016 was a HUGE SHOCK. I thought Kassie DePaiva would win that. I thought B&B would win Best Drama with Maya’s transgender story but again GH won.

DAYS winning Drama Series in 2013 was a SHOCK but it was way overdue for them since they didn’t win since the 70s. Thought B&B would win with matriarch, Stephanie Forrester’s death.

GH winning Writing in 2009 over B&B

Melody Thomas Scott was nominated ONCE for Lead Actress in 1999 but she lost to Susan Lucci which was WAY OVERDUE but Melody was WAY OVERDUE too.

Some of Tony Geary’s win left me scratching my head……………

Alison Sweeney losing the year she was finally nominated (although I adore Maura West and was thrilled for her).

Van Hansis losing to Bryton McClure (nee James) for 2006 ):

Kathryn Hays never ever being nominated ):

Mary Beth Evans winning instead of Kassie DePaiva ):

Anthony Geary winning 8 times ): Blech!

Days losing Drama Series in its best year ever, 2013 ): (They submitted poorly imo that year).

Scott DeFreitas losing all 3 times he was nominated ):

Alot of people tell me that they never understood Kim Zimmer’s 1987 lead actress win over Elizabeth Hubbard but I do. Kim picked Reba’s attempted suicide during Maeve and Kyle’s wedding and Hubbard picked Lucinda being confronted for Lily’s paternity. I loved Hubbard but Zimmer’s reel was better and Zimmer picked a black and white episode with Reva singing and dancing

^I wish that Liz Hubbard had won at least once for one of her eight nominations for playing Lucinda – she did win for The Doctors though!

Rena Sofer winning in 1995 over some very stiff competition (Sydney Penny, Melina Kanakaredes, Jackie Zeman and Jean Carol). My money that year was on Jackie Zeman.

Vanessa Marcil winning in 2003 has always been a sore spot for me. She beat out Cady McClain, Rebecca Budig, Robin Christopher, Linda Dano and Kelly Monaco. And Budig, McClain and Christopher were arguably nominated for the best work of their entire careers. I was rooting for Robin Christopher and Rebecca Budig that year.

Jacob Young winning in 2002 for Younger Actor was always baffling to me. He wasn’t even very good as Lucky Spencer, had a lackluster storyline and was not deserving of a win. Ironically, his well-deserved nominations for “AMC” never netted him a win, when he very much deserved to win.

2012: DAYS winning Writing was a total shock. I didn’t have them down as winning but it was OVERDUE for them since it’s been since the 70s or 80s since they won this category.

2014: Even though I adored Amelia Heinle and she did a great job with how Victoria was dealing with the death of Delia Abbott, I was FOR SURE Liz Hendrickson would win Supporting Actress. I thought Bryan Craig would win Younger Actor so I was shocked Chandler Massey won but was OK with it. 2014 was actually the Best Daytime Emmys I’ve seen.

2015: I didn’t expect B&B to win Writing, I thought it would go to GH. Hunter King winning Younger Actress was a TOTAL SHOCK, I thought Camila Banus would win that so I was completely shocked and Amelia Heinle winning again too.

Vanessa Marcil’s win always bothered me as well. I never understood it. She picked her talking to a priest about her terminal illness. I guess this was during the block voting period.

Alot of people don’t understand Jennifer Finnigan’s threepeat but I see why she won all three…her 2002 (Bridget marries Deacon in Vegas; Bridget confronts Deacon about being scared Everytime Brooke opens her mouth), 2003 (Bridget finds out about Brooke & Deacon sleeping together) and 2004 (Bridget kisses Ridge and has a meltdown) were all well deserved. Alot of fans use to complain about Eden Riegel not winning but she won the next year thank God.

Alot of people were disappointed in 99 when Rebecca Herbst didn’t win younger Actress for Elizabeth’s rape. Heather Tom’s Victoria losing her baby was heartbreaking. I think I would have voted for Tom but either last winning would have been ok.

I didnt get Julie Berman winning over Christel Khalil for Lily’s cancer in 2011. Berman was good in her reel but Christel won the next year.

To me Tony Geary only should have won in 1982, 99, 00, 06, 12, and 15 cause in 2004 I thought it should have gone to Grant Aleksander. His 2008 win should have gone to Thaoo Penghlis. I enjoyed his 2015 reel it was good. Now I will say he was deserving in 2016 but the academy was more sympathetic towards Tyler Christopher’s Nikolas alomst losing Spencer (who by the way was born in 2003 and has been ages backwards for some reason).

A lot of fans were disappointed in 2017 when Maura West, Laura Wright, and Nancy Lee Grahn all lost to Gina Tognoni. I told everyone that Gina would win and she did for her breakup with Jack and her losing it on Victor in court. The 3 GH ladies reels were too over the top.

In 2018 Eileen Davidson beat all 3 GH ladies. Again all 3 of their reels were definitely over the top. Davidson portrayed anger hurt and sadness all in a 9 minute reel. Maura’s was good but it was too ott. I told everyone that it would be Davidson and I was right.

I never understood that. After finding out that Gina had submitted those scenes, I knew she would win and RIGHTFULLY SO. I thought Maura West would win last year but I was so glad to be wrong when Eileen’s name was called. I have a feeling Marci Miller is going to win Lead Actress.

I have that same feeling about Marci. I can’t shake it. I had the same feelings about Gina and Eileen and I was right and I know I’m right about Marci. It’s hard to ignore her DID storyline.

I remember that year and remember rooting for Sarah Brown and Rebecca Herbst, but in hindsight Heather’s win makes a lot of sense. It’s kind of a shame though that Rebecca Herbst has never gotten a chance to shine like that again in such a big storyline. I really don’t get why Elizabeth has faded into the background so much in the years since her debut.

    Jane Elliott in 2014

    Laura Wright in 2017

My personal two biggest disappointing results. I wouldn’t say it shocked me they didn’t win in those years, but it is among the best reels to not win in the decade.
