I couldn’t even come up with a plausible Emmy reel for Wally Kurth and he is nominated ):
They better give the Emmy to Casey Moss! So glad for first-time nominees Casey Moss, Marla Adams, Michael Easton, Mishael Morgan, Hayley Erin, Greg Vaughan!!! GV ought to have won for 2013 and 2016; I hope his submission is his best material, he has so much great stuff from 2017!
Only 3 of our Goldies winners were nominated: James Reynolds, Casey Moss and Reign EdwardsMarch 21, 2018 at 3:47 pm #1202517238
Wally Kurth had some good scenes in Tracy’s exit story. He probably paired that with Ned/Olivia’s wedding and some ELQ/Michael stuff.March 21, 2018 at 3:55 pm #1202517241
I can’t wait for the lead actress reels. I know West and Grahn had some dynamite scenes last year between Ava’s fire and Alexis’ alcoholism and I hear Davidson was fantastic with Ashley’s paternity reveal. I don’t know what Miller or Wright could submit that would compete but I’m excited to find out.
My guess is Miller submitted the Chabby fight before she gets hit by a car and stuff surrounding Ben’s return at the double wedding. Wright’s only option I can think of is the Nelle reveal. I don’t remember being wowed by those performances.March 21, 2018 at 3:56 pm #1202517242
Freeman as u know its all in reel. Most people last year had Laura Wright winning the emmy and as i watched all the reels i knew Gina was going to take it. It was the flashy courtroom scene and stuff with Jack.March 21, 2018 at 5:24 pm #1202517275
No one had LW winning last year..she was 4th at best.March 21, 2018 at 5:34 pm #1202517281
Ok seriously, what the hell could susan seaforth hayes have submitted that got her on but kept both arianne zuker AND Eileen Davidson off the ballot? Olivia rose Keegan over Victoria Konefal? Marci miller over Judi Evans?? I almost feel like some of the nominees have good reels for the 2019 emmy’s, but were nominated 2018 instead?
I agree with you Freeman, have they changed the rules for guest acting category? I was under the impression that it was to be a NEW character with limited screentime. Anjelica Devereaux was played by 3 different actresses in the 80’s-90’s era, which should therefore have made morgan fairchild disqualified….but any nominations for days is a good nomination i guess. lol
Casey Moss for the win!!!!!March 21, 2018 at 5:40 pm #1202517285

I disagree 100%.
LW had another great acting year and chock full of excellent dramatic scenes. She may not have had the baity flashy stuff, but she had the most standout moments right there with MW. Certainly more than NLG and easily better than KM. Carly and Nelle’s confrontation was just the tip of the iceberg. Carly confronting Olivia with a gun in front of Morgan’s grave. Carly having multiple blowouts with Sonny over the divorce. Carly catching Sonny and Martina in bed. Carly’s fights with Josselyn over her not choosing Jax. Carly confronting Ava in the warehouse over switching Morgan’s meds. Carly threatening to kill Garvey in the hospital by removing his morphine drip. Carly’s emotional reunion with Jason was fantastic work.
LW had the most perfect complete reel from 2016, and might have put together another masterful showcase from 2017. We all know that the only reason she didn’t win last year was cause nothing was gonna beat the old “woman screaming about being raped on a courtroom stand from GT” but any other year that was without a doubt a winning reel. I am not saying that LW deserves to win this year like last year, but her making the final nominations was the second slam dunk outside of MW.
NLG was on the backburner for 80% of 2017. I thought that her acting was noteworthy this year, but not as powerful as last year. The alcoholism storyline was really at it’s best in late 2016. She is the only nomination out of the three from GH that *might* come under question when the reels are released. You never know till you see the reels. NLG is definitely a more worthy nomination over KM out of the four GH actresses that made the pre-noms.
PS: FH should have submitted this year. GH would have had four of the five nominations.March 21, 2018 at 6:12 pm #1202517310
On the character actor side of things, I am thrilled that Vernee Watson (Vy from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and the recurring nurse on The Big Bang Theory) is finally recognized somewhere and would be very happy if Patrika Darbo got a bookend to her Primetime Emmy for another digital series, years after she was nominated for Days of Our Lives.
And, yes, please, to 24 year old Ben Platt getting 3/4 of the way to an EGOT with this musical performance category.
Although I am still confused as to how some streaming shows are eligible for Primetime Emmys and some for Daytime Emmys. Is a midnight release what makes the difference? And how is Liv and Maddie now Daytime Emmy eligible? I thought that it aired in primetime.

I have to agree about Wally Kurth.
A little shocked seeing him beat out two of his GH castmates (Stuart and Burton) who couldn’t possibly had lesser reels than him. Stuart had so many electric scenes in 2017 and Burton was really good in the two Jason’s story. Kurth is my favorite actor in this category by a longshot, but can’t imagine his reel going past five minutes. Seems like the GH and DOOL cast members decided to vote him in this year. Good to see him finally score that long awaited nomination. I am happy, but surprised.
At the end of the day, Anthony Montgomery is winning this category. I have a pretty good idea what his emmy reel is gonna look like. Never had a doubt he’d make the final nominations based off those scenes.

I think when it comes to streaming shows (and children’s shows??), producers have a choice. They can either submit in Primetime or Daytime. So, yeah, Netflix and Amazon are playing both fields expertly. Anyway, I’m happy Raven-Symone got a nomination.
As for the main categories that most people on this form care about, this looks like a great list. Happy for Casey Moss and Camryn Grimes. I hope they release the reels this year (incl. for guest performer because they didn’t do that last year fsr).

Overall, I was not thrilled with the nominations, especially in comparison to the pre-nominations. But they are no worse than usual.
Here are some of my initial thoughts:
I am disappointed not to see Billy Flynn among the nominees. Congrats to Michael Easton on his first nomination. Surprised that Scott Clifton was overlooked.
Devastated not to see Judi Evans among the nominees. Also very disappointed not to see Sharon Case. Despite my lack of love for GH, the three GH actresses are deserving nominees.
Very happy to see Greg Vaughan finally scored a nomination. Happy to see Chandler Massey. Surprised not to see Steve Burton here.
Thrilled to see Camryn Grimes, and also happy to see Marla Adams, Mishael Morgan, and JMW.
Casey Moss and Lucas Adams were nominated, and that is really the extent of my interest in this category.March 21, 2018 at 6:27 pm #1202517325
I don’t need to look at the reels to be honest. I watched all four shows last year. Last year I got 7/9 winners right.
For lead actor I choose James Reynolds. Abe’s grief over Theo’s shooting and him blasting JJ was superb.
For lead Actress I’m torn between Maura West and Eileen Davidson. Maura gave a smashing performance during Ava’s burn storyline. Eileen gave me chills during Ashley being outted as Brent’s daughter and her rivalry with Jack.
For supporting actor I’m torn again. Greg Vaughn was thrilling. Eric and Nicole’s love affair mixed with Eric confronting and punching Brady and him ripping the cabin apart gave me chills. Chandler Massey’s Will came back from the dead, Blasted Sami for having him relive his”death”, forgiving her, and breaking Sonny’s heart.
Supporting Actress has me torn between Marla Adams and Camryn Grimes. Adam’s Dina goes through Alzheimer’s and Grime’s Mariah comes to terms with her feelings for her brothers girlfriend, kissing her, and confessing to Sharon.
Younger Actor is Casey Moss all the way. JJ shot Theo and almost committed suicide. The only person who could stand tie to toe with him is co star Lucas Adams. Tripp almost killing Kayla and confronting Joey gave me chills.
Younger Actress is between Chloe Lainer and Reign Edwards. Lainers Nelle is one dangerous lady. Her vengeance for Carly is just great acting. Edwards’ Nicole battled her feelings for her sisters baby and her husband kissing her sister.
Best writing goes to Days hands down. The double wedding/Will is alive/Theos shooting/JJs suicide attempt is all good.
Best directing might go to GH or B&B. B&B has that episode where Bill has Spectra blown to pieces with Sally and Liam in the rubble. Idk what GH could pick.
Best drama has to go to Days. I don’t see anyone beating them.
Last year I predicted Tognoni (nobody believed me), Clifton, Burton, Mansi, Craig, Y&R for writing, and GH for directing and got them all right.
I’ll be able to choose between the ones who I can’t decide on when the reels come out and choose one person as the sole winner. Hell there’ve been ties before. Who knows what might happen.

No one believed me either when I said Tognoni would win and when her name was called I jumped in the air. Wright, Walton, and Grahn didn’t win because of the over the top performances in their reels. Tom just had one good scene with confronting Brooke. Alot of people don’t realize that Emmy voters don’t like over the top stuff.Thats why alot of people have yet to win Emmy’s. Their range and over the top performances holds them back.March 21, 2018 at 9:00 pm #1202517386
From Michael Fairman’s podcast:
Laura Wright submitted Carly and Jason scenes following his return (11-1-17)
Eileen Davidson submitted Ashley’s paternity and Dina’s Alzheimer’s.
Chandler Massey submitted the scenes where Sami recreates Will’s death, Will/Marlena scenes in Memphis and the scenes where Will hangs out with a half naked Paul in his hotel room.
Susan Seaforth Hayes submitted scenes with Chloe fighting over Doug’s Place, scenes with Hope and grief scenes. She said her whole reel was like 5 minutes.
John McCook submitted scenes where he tells Ridge he doesn’t want to be his father.
Maura West submitted the Sonny/Carly/Ava showdown leading to Ava getting caught in a fire (5/26/17) & Dante interrogating a burned Ava in the hospital & Scotty/Ava scenes where a burned Ava tells Scotty that their relationship/friendship is over & scenes where Ava first tells Griffin she’s attracted to him and he rejects her because he’s a priest.
(I’m worried this will be too long and feel disjointed. She would have been unbeatable if she just submitted 5-26 & 5-30.)
NLG submitted Alexis hallucinating Tom Baker (1/10 & 1/11), Alexis’ AA meeting (1/13/17) & Julexis’ sex scene and tearful breakup (4/18/17). (THAT’S A KILLER REEL! SHE COULD FINALLY WIN LEAD!)
Chloe Lanier submitted Nelle slapping Carly, Nelle/Michael scenes talking about Nelle’s father, Nelle telling Sonny, Carly & Michael she’s pregnant and they need to financially support her, and scenes where Nelle refuses to give Michael his ring back.
Camryn Grimes submitted scenes where Mariah tells her mother she has feelings for another woman.
Greg Vaughn submitted Nicole breaking up with Eric (10-17-17) and Eric fighting Brady.
Casey Moss submitted JJ’s suicide episode and the Gabi/JJ scenes from the following episode. (12/20 & 12/21)
Michael Easton submitted Finn’s detox scenes with Hayden & Finn talking about his past.
Marci Miller submitted scenes with Jennifer about Dario, Chabby vow renewal/breakup, double wedding where Abby punches Ben, and Dario divorce scenes.
