These are my picks but I was looking at the rest of Thorsten Kaye’s highlated reel on Twitter and I can’t deny he definitely has a chance to win. I also can’t ignore Chandler Massey, Maura West, Arianne Zucker, Bryton James, Jon Lindstrom, Sasha Calle, Christel Khalil, Wally Kurth, and James Patrick Stuart.

I am in no position to give an opinion on, or make any predictions for, the 47th Daytime Emmy Awards. (I did not watch enough.)

I will comment that it would not surprise me if Bryton James and Christel Khalil, who plays siblings Devon and Lily on CBS’s The Young and the Restless, win in the supporting-acting races.

It has to do with an impact their performances may have in the aftermath of the death of both the Neil Winters character and the beloved actor who played him, Kristoff St. John (1966–2019), himself a two-time Emmy winner. (I certainly watched those episodes.)

I hope the winners will be good choices. And I also hope people have a good time with the ceremony.

Still thinking about this, but I’m really thinking now that excitement over the “never been done in daytime” time jump on DAYS may put in slightly ahead of Y&R in series and B&B/GH in writing. Also, this is a shaky statistic, but in recent years, if one or more soaps gets a nomination for promotional announcement, that soap or one of those soaps wins drama series. It’s shaky because there have been years where two soaps were nominated for promotional announcement and only one of them won drama series, and also because it only happens every other year or so that a soap gets nominated for promotional announcement. The last time one soap was nominated for promotional announcement but didn’t win drama series, it was GH, in a year when it wasn’t nominated for drama series (the noms were B&B, DAYS, Y&R and the online OLTL). DAYS was nominated for promotional announcement this year (I believe for the time jump promos specifically), so I think that supports my theory about the excitement over the time jump.

    Drama Series: DAYS
    Lead Actor: Jason Thompson
    Lead Actress: Katherine Kelly Lang
    Supporting Actor: Chandler Massey
    Supporting Actress: Christel Khalil
    Younger Performer: Katelyn MacMullin
    Guest Performer: Eva La Rue
    Writing: DAYS
    Directing: GH

Here is one thing to keep an eye on.

The grieving mother reel hasn’t won in a long time despite being the heavy favorite going into emmy night. Herbst in 12 and Hendrickson in 14 in supporting. DePaiva in 16, Wright in 17, and West in 19 in leading. There was a lot of surprise about these five not winning in those years. Hendrickson and Wright didn’t win on their second try in 18 for the same story about losing a child. For this year, West and Zucker should have similar reels (somewhat) based on their clips as grieving mothers. West is hoping for better results this time around after losing last year to Wood. IMO, the door is wide open for Lang to win. She will have a submission that is different than the rest. As for supporting, Braun and Noelle will have a familiar tone as well in their reels, but the latter has the happy ending that shows her character in a strong light. West and Braun have most first place votes in the sites rankings (overall in second per category) while Zucker and Noelle are middle of the pack. Just something to think about since this story hasn’t been winning lately.

All I can say is that I will be irritated, disappointed, angry, upset if your gal Katherine Kelly Lang were to win. I hope they have the good sense to vote for Maura and/or Arianne but nothing surprises me any more when it comes to the daytime Emmys!

    Lead Actress:
Maura West: God knows I love Maura. She’s a force of nature. Her scenes when Ava stabbing Ryan were good but I’ve never known anyone to win a Emmy for stabbing anyone. I get what Shasta is saying. The grieving mother ordeal is kinda over. Zucker has a good submission as a grieving mother who’s an imposter and I don’t know if Emmy voters voted for based off Kristen pretending to be Nicole. Tom confronted Flo about keeping the secret of Beth being alive. It was good but idk if it says Emmy gold. Maybe she put the kidney storyline in there as well. Hughes submitted an episode of Anna/Alex which was good but it doesn’t say Emmy either. Lang submitted the confrontation with Taylor and I asked her on her IG live what else she submitted and she said Brooke and Ridge’s argument about Thomas and the reveal of Beth being alive and I have to say she brought it in those episodes. I think Lang has the advantage in this category.

Lead Actor: Thorsten Kaye picked 3 good ones including Ridge arguing with Brooke about forgiving Thomas, Ridge telling Thomas he’s ashamed that he’s his father, and another scene with Brooke. It was great acting if you ask me. I wouldn’t be surprised if he won. Lindstrom picked Kevin arguing with Ryan after Ava stabbed Ryan. Good acting. I wouldn’t be totally shocked by his win. Penghlis picked Tony being visited by Nicole and Brady. It was very comedic. I heard he placed some drama in there as well. Burton picked an episode telling Jake that Liz is going to jail for a while. It was ok. It didn’t scream Emmy. Thompson picked the best reel…the standalone episode, Billy waking up in the Chancellor living room wondering how he got there, and Billy’s therapy session we’re all great. He has the best chance of winning this Emmy.

I’m not too worried about Supporting Actor because they all picked great submissions. I want Grossman to win. He was great and controlled as Adam in his scenes with Victor and Sharon. Massey was good as Will ends his marriage to Sonny. Stuart was great as Valentin in his scenes with Charlotte and Nina. James was great as a grieving Devon who list his dad and his dead wife visiting him from the grave. Kurth was great as Justin deals with fact that Adrienne’s gone and his scenes with Will were outstanding. Telfer was also great in his scenes with Sarah.

Supporting Actress: Noelle was a grieving mother in her reel but she got a happy ending and she slapped the hell out of Flo. That reel has Emmy gold all over it. Hayes has a good reel as Julie needing a heart and reminiscing with Doug. Braun was great as Kim talking to a dying Oscar. Budig was ok in her reel with Finn. Khalil broke my heart at Neil’s funeral. She also put a scene with Cane in there as well. To me Noelle and Khalil have the best two reels.

Younger Performer: I’ll just say this… Olivia Rose Keegan has the best reel and she definitely deserves a win, but I’d be on the lookout for Sasha Calle who had a good reel with Lola and Eva LaRue arguing and Lola losing Kyle to Summer. McCoy was ok. MacMullen was better than McCoy. Megia was ok too.

Lots of good extra info on what the lead actors and actresses submitted in new interviews on the SOD site.

After reading more about what is on the reels, I am going to put Lindstrom ahead of Thompson for the win. Strong cohesive reel and easier to follow journey. A good showcase of both twins at the peak moments of the story. But must say that Kaye submitted really well. He could benefit from having a non outlandish story in the category as the two frontrunners.

Fascinating stat! Thanks EmmyLoser for pointing this out. Perhaps we really are underestimating DAYS’s chances…
