Yes, I think for me it’s more of a perception thing than anything else.  Even though in the soap world ages are fluid and parents are often close in age to their children, I can’t really picture Haskell playing Melody Thomas Scott’s daughter.  I could see her paired with Billy Miller, but that would then become an older woman-younger man relationship.

Since this topic first posted, I have been thinking for quite some time about GH.

The first thing I wanted to do is change Jason Morgan back to Jason Quartermaine. But that is no longer a possibility with Steve Burton’s departure. I’ve seen many comments from fans about restoring the Quartermaines as a prominent family. At this point, the best way to do that would be for Michael to change his name back to Quartermaine (should have never been changed to begin with) and move into the Q mansion. Certainly, there are other possibilities as well, but I will move on.

My biggest complaint about GH is the presence of the mob and the excess violence. With mobster-characters like Sonny, Johnny, Joe Jr., as well as sociopaths like Todd, it’s just too much. The show needs more heroes. Guys like Patrick Drake and Steve Webber need to be given more prominent parts. The character of Sonny really needs to go. I like Maurice Benard, and they could always bring him back as another character.

Next issue: they really need to get back to the hospital. It doesn’t have to be boring. (Consider the success of “Grey’s Anatomy.”) In order to do this, they need to commit to tying in new and core characters to the hospital. One possibility would be to bring back Tom Jr. He was about ten when he last appeared in the mid 90s. Now he could return to GH for his residency in medicine. That would also increase diversity on the show, since the character is African-American. Another great move would be to bring on Debbie Morgan and Darnell Williams as Angie and Jessie Hubbard. She could work at the hospital and he could work at the police station.

One last thing… I love Robin Mattson. I have enjoyed her latest stint on the show, but I feel that the writers were not true to her character (as I mentioned on a previous post) and went too far with her wrongdoings. It’s too bad, because the series was really feeling golden this summer when Heather was front and center. I think they should reveal that this is Heather’s twin and that the real Heather is innocent of any wrongdoing. I don’t usually go for such silly twists, but then they could keep Mattson and write Heather as devious trouble rather than murderous and delusional. For me, the show was at its best when Heather, Tracy, Luke, and Anna were airing frequently. Since then, it’s been too much of Sonny and characters connected to him.

RC does humor really well and I encourage him to explore that. Character development and consistency is important as well.  We need to like the characters, or at least most of them. He has had many chances to turn Todd into a troubled yet likable character, but unfortunately they always ruin it by having him resort to violence. I don’t really buy this from Todd. Given his history, he should be snarky and perhaps devious, but not violent (that’s my take, anyway).

I won’t get into specific stories, because that is the writer’s job. I want a show that entertains with characters that I look forward to seeing everyday. The rest is up to them.
