Wasn’t too sure at first but I think she’ll make a great Phyllis!

Ironic piece of casting since her name has been in the ridic conversation of recasting Victoria for years now. She and Michelle share that dual look of being both gritty and gorgeous. I’ll pretend that her return as Kelly on OLTL didn’t happen because though she didn’t help matters with acting out the poor material, the material wasn’t there. And if she manages to do what she did with Dinah (taking over popular role from a popular actress), she’ll be a solid recast.

Although she’s much younger than I would have liked for this role, I think she’s a fine choice and clearly she was one of the more obvious choices.    I still wish I could see what Jamie Luner would have done in the role… But I’ll give this one a chance.

Yussssssssss!!! Awesome news!! Look at Y&R giving GH a real run for its money with all its great casting coups over the last couple months!

I know that there were many interesting names being thrown around in our previous conversations as to who would make the perfect Phyllis recast, most of which would’ve made for wonderful choices too… and let’s face it, Michelle Stafford has made the role so much her own over the span of two decades that it’s virtually impossible to imagine anyone else in the role. There’s no doubt about it, regardless of who the recast is, she has very big shoes to fill and it will be a difficult road ahead in swaying over the audience as a convincible Phyllis. But I was always of the opinion that if it’s anyone that can pull off the challenges of playing such a complex character, it’s Gina Tognoni. You’re absolutely spot-on, eastwest, in how you conveyed the similarities between the two actresses. Both Michelle and Gina do indeed share that dual look of being both gritty and gorgeous, and I think that’s essentially also what helped Gina win the part, aside from her serious acting chops! Of course, it can’t hurt that she had a “flawless” audition, too!

I, for one, can’t wait to see how Gina does in this new role! I wish her the best of luck.

I was so anti-Gina after her second run as Kelly on OLTL, but I think this could work very well.  Good for her and good for Y&R!

The problem with her second Kelly was that she was playing Dinah and not Kelly – I blame the writing more than the actress though.

I wasn’t even thinking about Gina for the role – we’ll see how it works out – I was hoping for Kelly Sullivan. I haven’t been happy with Y&R for awhile now – the writing and the story choices have been really dreadful imo. I am usually bored for at least half of every episode. Perhaps the return of Phyllis will start to turn the show around??

Despite my not-great gut reactions to the suggestion of GT for this part after her last stint as Kelly, I don’t doubt this has the potential to be great.  I know she’s younger than Stafford, but she feel close to the right age range for the part.  I’m not sure I’d say I’m optimistic, per se, but it’s interesting, and we’ll see how it works out.

IMO GT looked like she was trying to emulate Kim Zimmer at that point, which I thought was both unnecessary and ineffective.  But the more I think of GT as Phyllis, the faster I’m getting over her take on Kelly.

GT will be a smash triumph as Phyllis.  She will take the role & make it her own while staying true to the character — in much the same way she took over Dinah Marler from Wendy Moniz.
