Question: Have you ever questioned why a çertain actor, actress, or show won a Daytime Emmy? I questioned Sean Blakemore’s 2016 win for Supporting Actor(Shawn finds out that he’s TJs dad but I later went back and looked at the reel again and I saw why he won) and I questioned Anthony Geary’s 2008 win for Lead Actor (Luke goes to hell). What wins got you thinking WHAT?????

Kyler Pettis’s win last year was a total jaw-dropper for me. I don’t get his win even one tiny bit. He has an Emmy but Casey Moss doesn’t have one? At least with Rome Flynn’s win, which I disagreed with, he still had an excellent reel.

Mary Beth Evans’s win instead of Kassie DePaiva upsets me terribly. hated the “comedy” (sic) scene at the end of her reel. The first scene was o.k. but geesh! It was just so wrong!

Tony Geary having 8 Emmys is beyond riduculous! I would have given him his 2nd, 3rd, and 7th Emmys, but he is NOT the best actor in daytime television history! Geesh!

Jess Walton’s win in 1997 was infuriating – Jensen Buchanan and Genie Francis both deserved to win, with the edge to Genie – if my memory is correct Laura was convicted of murder during that particular 1996-97 Emmy eligibility period.

I simply dislike Heather Tom and haven’t agreed with any of her wins. Same for Hunter King.

Vernee Watson’s win last year was very frustrating.

The list is endless, actually. The problem with the panels is that we don’t know their composition – and that affects who wins, of course.

I think Francis’ reel that year had less to do with being acquitted for murdering Damien Smith and more for her telling Luke 1) Nikolas existed and 2) saved Lulu with his bone marrow. It was done in a very long two handed sequence that was excellent and incidentally is part of the same episode where everyone finds out Steve Hardy has died.

I have to agree with freeman on Tony Geary………I never understood how he won so many and Mary Beth Evans win over Kassie DePaiva in 2016 so we can agree on that.

I was stunned that Hunter King won in 2015 over Camila Banus; I didn’t think her reel was that strong.

GH winning Best Drama……..There are years where they deserve it and years where they didn’t deserve it. Y&R should have won in 1997, 2006 & 2017. Was hoping either GL or OLTL to win in 2008. GH shouldn’t have won Writing in 2009, I thought B&B would win that.

Shawn Blakemore’s win was a surprise too in 2016……I really didn’t think his reel was that strong.

I was happy with OLTL win in 2002 considering it was their very first and ONLY win but was their reel strong?????

I think Hunter King deserved them both. Her 2015 reel was Summer reacting to Jack not Nikolas was her father and her 2016 reel was Summer finding out that Nikolas was her dad and that Sharon switched the paternity results.

I agree with Tony Geary winning in 82, 99 (Luke discusses raping Laura in 78), 00 (Lucky’s death), 06 (Luke begs Lucky to come out of his coma), 12 (Luke deals with the fact that he “killed” Jake), and 15 (Luke/Fluke) but I couldn’t understand why he won in 04 (Luke’s Christmas episode) or 08 (Luke goes to hell).

I was shocked that Mary Beth Evans won over Kassie Depaiva but I see why Evans won but I was still shocked.

Jeanne Cooper winning over Nicole Forrester in 2008 still bothers me a little. Cooper won for telling Jill that she gave her baby away (which wasn’t the case) over Forrester for Cassie blasting Alan over his involvement in Tammy’s death.

Sean Blakemore’s win was shocking cause I thought Jacob Young was going to win for Rick dealing with Maya being transgendered.

I was also shocked by GH winning best drama in 97, 06, and 17. I think the voters knew that so that’s why Y&R won in 2007 tying with GL. 2008 should have been GL for Tammy’s death and the 70th anniversary episode over Ghs metro court episode. I was hurt that year.

OLTL wasn’t that popular at the Emmys for some odd reason. I’ll never understand why.

I agreed with all Heather’s wins (93 for Victoria telling Victor to basically butt out of her relationship with Ryan, 99 for Victoria dealing with the fact that she lost her baby, 11 for Katie being fired as CEO of Forrester, 12 for Katie blasting Bill and Steffy for their affair, and 13 for Katie’s post partum depression). She’s a phenomenal Actress.

There are quite a few, but a standout is Hunter King winning over Camila Banus in younger actress, in 2015, was it? I was blown away by Banus’s reel — I commented on here that it was the third strongest of ALL the nominated reels that year, after Maura West’s and Alison Sweeney’s — and found King’s reel underwhelming. I’m sure most of you have also heard me complain about Julie Pinson’s supporting actress win, a race where Arianne Zucker’s only competition seemed to be Beth Chamberlain. That was the year when the Sydney baby switch story was playing out, and Zucker’s submission was very strong. She should have won. I’ve also complained about Jeanne Cooper’s win over Nicole Forester, and in my opinion Cooper had the least impressive reel of the five nominated actresses.

Some of the others mentioned were good ones. I was shocked by Sean Blakemore’s win, but I don’t feel strongly that he shouldn’t have won. Ditto Mary Beth Evans’ win. That Emmy seemed like it should have gone to Kassie DePaiva, but Evans submitted a well composed reel (I liked the comedy in the second half!), and DePaiva’s submission, while strong overall, really didn’t do justice to the year she’d had. Her strongest work had been during the storyline where Eve and JJ were sleeping together, and she didn’t submit any of that. Kyler Pettis’s win was surprising, but also makes sense to me. He was so emotional in his last episode or two as Theo that I can see that beating the competition (though we didn’t see the reels last year). Casey Moss not winning for his near suicide is unforgivable. I know that voters in some cases didn’t get to the end of the reel, and Rome Flynn was good in his, but that’s not a valid excuse. I also think the fact that Flynn had already been cast on some primetime shows was definitely a factor. This probably boosted Hunter King as well. Voters tend to like to reward the young performer who they think will make it big outside of daytime, which is a frustrating trend.

I can’t even talk about Tony Geary.

I love Heather Tom and didn’t have any problems with her winning, it’s just 2011 and 2012 took me a bit by surprise. I thought Tricia Cast would win in 2011 when there was a shooting and Nina had witnessed her son, Chance being shot dead when it was staged. I thought she was really good there and 2012, I thought Debbi Morgan was gonna win that with Angie’s blindness and then learning the baby she was carrying or newborn baby died. Plus, it would have made Emmy history since a WOC never won Lead Actress.

Other than that, I agree with you that Heather is a phenomenal actress.

Jen Landon was good in all her reels (Gwen finds out that the baby she’s raising was Jennifer’s/Gwen says goodbye to her baby; Gwen blasts Iris and asks her to leave; Gwen loses it after “killing” Casey/Gwen meets Cleo (her dobbleganger)). I predicted she would win 3 years in a row as I did with Chandler Massey, Heather Tom, and Jennifer Finnigan.

    Ardejah Cat Harbin asks,

I first watched the Daytime Emmys in 1985.

    Last year was 2019.

So, I have questioned why a certain actor or actress won, in every year except one (1994), for 35 years.
