Lead Actor and Lead Actress is the trickiest categories this year. I’m having a hard time going backwards and forwards second guessing a predicted winner because all their submissions were good.

Peter Bergman, Jason Thompson, John McCook, Eric Martsolf, and James Reynolds are all good contenders. I’ll be happy for whomever wins.

Cynthia Watros, Laura Wright, Marci Miller, Mishael Morgan, and Arianne Zucker are also good contenders. This the category I keep going backwards and forwards on because usually I pick the right winner. My gut is telling Morgan but I can’t ignore the other contenders have some awesome scenes.

What are your opinions on this year’s Lead Actor and Actresses nominees and who do you think may win?

For Lead Actor, I’m gonna say it’s between John McCook & James Reynolds.  A lot of people are saying Peter Bergman is going to win and I really don’t see it; he did a good job with the Jack episode but I don’t think it’s strong enough to win.  John McCook with Eric’s ED storyline and him finding out about Quinn & Carter’s affair could FINALLY win him his first Emmy if he hasn’t won one already.  James Reynolds submitted Abe’s anniversary episode where he was in the hospital after being shot and went into cardiac arrest and saw Lexie in heaven.

For Lead Actress, something is telling me it’s going to the GH girls.   I really don’t think DAYS is winning this and I’m NOT too sure about Mishael Morgan but maybe she’ll FINALLY make history and become the first Black/POC to win Lead Actress.

For Lead Actor, I am split between McCook, Reynolds and Martsolf. I am not ruling out Martsolf because Emmy voters traditionally have voted for this type of story (Scott Clifton’s winning reel in 2017 reminds me of this). McCook has a strong story that I think could win. I would be really happy for him winning. Bergman might be too subtle. Reynolds is a contender, though I felt his past flashbacks stood out and the acting I saw felt transitional and I’m not sure if it is enough to go on. He may have submitted more material from other episodes and I thought his waking up at the end had a nice touch. I think, based on the similarity of nominees we have to 2018, he could have a second win. Thompson…I might wonder what the Emmy voters are smokin’.

As far as Lead Actress, I can see Watros winning based on what I’ve read in magazines seeing her name. I feel like Wright and Miller who I’ve seen before on nomination list also stand a chance. I’d love Mishael Morgan to win, so we’ll see.

I don’t think it will be a sweep for any soap, evenly distributed across the map.

Martsolf is my top pick but I’m not ruling out McCook or Reynolds.

I would love to see Arianne Zuker finally win her long overdue emmy, but I feel like Marci Miller stands a better chance at winning, however, I think Cynthia Watros has this.

I would like to see Eric Martsolf win, I was never a fan of the actor until about a year or two after he joined as Brady, but he has stepped up his acting in the past decade for sure, and deserves this, but I think Days will be shut out of the leading categories, I think John Mccook has this.

I looked up Watros scenes and I liked them but they didn’t have me saying Emmy like her performance on GL back in the day. To be honest Wright was better in her nominated scenes. I don’t see either one of them winning. I honestly think they’re going to give it to someone who hasn’t won yet. I also think the GH ladies cancelled each other out because their scenes are so similar and within the same storyline. If I go with my gut it’s Morgan but I won’t count anyone out. Zucker was good in her reel. Her reel was similar to Jacqueline Maciness Woods reel from 2019. Miller is also good with the whole Gwen/Chad/Abigail storyline. I’m going with Morgan because her reel is golden and it tells a story about a woman trying to reunite her family and avenging her father’s death. It was so heartfelt and heartbreaking at the same time.

I find Best Actress to always be the hardest to predict. Not knowing who is on the panel is always a huge issue. It is their biases and preferences that matter. With that said I have been thinking for a very long time that Laura Wright would win this year but my heart wants Cynthia Watros to win. Even though GH doesn’t win in this category all that often it feels due. I keep going back and forth between Watros and Wright…

I am predicting John McCook for Best Actor. My only reason for thinking so is that his material is unusual and different. I don’t have a strong feeling for any of the actors in this category though. I was so unimpressed by Jason Thompson’s work as Billy in 2021 but clearly his being nominated – which surprises me – impressed the panelists – maybe he does the every other year thing with Maurice Benard and wins his second Emmy? Again, daytime Emmys are the hardest to predict because the panel changes every single year so there isn’t the consistency that exists with other awards shows.

For Lead Actor, I’m gonna say it’s between John McCook & James Reynolds. A lot of people are saying Peter Bergman is going to win and I really don’t see it; he did a good job with the Jack episode but I don’t think it’s strong enough to win.

I am in agreement here about these top two choices and the Jack stand-alone episode. I felt it had some moments, but for the most part felt fragmented and even a bit forced in places. It feels more likely based on how the actor described the reel that he chose the episode where he confesses his now forbidden feelings for an unavailable Phyllis. That episode at least gives a glimpse of Jack’s bleeding/regret/resignation in a similar theme to McCook. This might be a quiet reel but one can sense an inquietude the entire episode as Jack is self-medicating through loneliness that borders on dejection, and even his confession is only given because his inhibitions are dimmed by alcohol, and the confession itself reveals years-long agony and inner torment though he and Phyllis still share a deep, somewhat humorous connection.

Based on the alignment on the leaderboards, possible range of emotion, and King’s win last night, I am considering giving Bergman some credit and adding him to the running for what might/or might not be a close race. Emmy voters sometimes go the psychological route as they did for Billy’s temporary psychosis in 2020 and there might be more to dissect here if that is the episode or one of the episodes he chose.

There could be a strong chance that two POC actors could take the top two awards. That hasn’t happened at any of the major award shows in a long time

Right now I’m predicting McCook. He’s got a truly empathetic storyline and he handles it beautifully, and he’s very overdue for a win. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Martsolf, who has the most dramatic reel, takes it.

I think actress is a three-way race. Wright, Morgan, and Miller all have a real shot at this. My gut tells me Wright, but I’m close to predicting Miller.

I’m surprised you and Daniel didn’t do a video about The Daytime Emmys this year.

Here we go with lightning predictions::

Series: I’m going with GH. They won SOD for top soap for 2021

Lead actor: Reynolds or Martsolf, depends on what voters are looking for.

    Lead actress: Watros or Morgan

Supporting actor: Someone from GH or Vilasuso

Supporting actress: Ordway, but looking out for Haiduk if Martsolf doesn’t win. I don’t see both Martsolf and Haiduk winning.

Younger actor: Lind being off the show and in her early teens with a story like this feels like a possible reality.

Writing, Directing, I might get wrong so hope I’m pleasantly surprised. I hope I’m pleasantly surprised in any of these categories. Looks like I’m going to be watching the Daytime Emmys tomorrow with one eye open!

We didn’t do a video because without the reels it’s very hard to predict. Even if we knew everyone’s scenes, it’s a lot easier to predict when you actually see the reels in one sitting.
