I don’t hate it. I LOVE IT. Two of my favs for the job 🙂August 11, 2021 at 8:46 pm #1204392946
Glad to see my assumption that Mayim Bialik wasn’t really an option turned out to be incorrect! I’m happy with this outcome.August 11, 2021 at 11:50 pm #1204393122
Bialik is an interesting curveball choice. Supposedly, dual hosts were always a part of the host replacement plan, though that was never reported in the media. She’s already receiving Twitter backlash for her problematic anti-vax stances, so couple that with of all Richards’s past legal issues, and yeahhh. Fine way to uphold Trebek’s storied legacy. LeVar Burton was right there…August 20, 2021 at 7:45 am #1204406288
And just like that he’s goneAugust 20, 2021 at 8:24 am #1204406319
Someone at Sony didn’t do their due diligence in the Cancel Culture Age.
Sounds like this wasn’t a matter of just one offhand comment, but several insensitive statements about multiple groups, so this is probably for the best.
I rather enjoyed the guest host rotation, so it sounds like we’ll get more of that. Alex Trebek mentioned CNN analyst Laura Coates a couple of times as someone he thought would be good, so I hope she gets a shot.August 20, 2021 at 11:24 am #1204406817
it’s a “good”thing cancel culture wasn’t around in the 70s or 80s because Richard Dawson and Bob Barker would have been jobless also lolAugust 20, 2021 at 3:28 pm #1204407312
I hope this will give Sara Haines an opportunity to guest-host. She’s been a fantastic host of The Chase.

Despite all of the skeletons in Mike Richards’ closet, I still think the most damning thing was that he appeared to essentially appoint himself to host a show of which he was already executive producer. People talk about cancel culture, but I believe it’s been generally true that insensitive comments from years past are forgiven and forgotten relatively quickly with a competent apology and a semblance of actual contrition. Abuses of power, on the other hand, have been sticking to people like crazy glue.August 23, 2021 at 11:25 am #1204411699
Good riddance, Mikey!
“Jeopardy!”: Mayim Bialik to Step in as Temporary Host of Syndicated Show After Mike Richards’s ExitAugust 31, 2021 at 11:07 am #1204426880
After botching the search process for a new host, Sony Television is now no longer playing around. Mike Richards, who stepped down as Jeopardy!‘s new host after taping only a week’s worth of shows, has now been fired as executive producer of both Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune, effective immediately. Unsavory and offensive comments made by Richards during a 2014 podcast resurfaced during the host search and created a storm of controversy with which the venerated game shows no longer wished to deal.August 31, 2021 at 11:47 am #1204426970
Werk. Richards has made a mockery of the entire host selection process. It’s what he deserves. Sony saving face at this late stage is equally eye-rolling and convenient. Good luck to whoever lands the job.September 1, 2021 at 8:14 am #1204428320
It’s what he deserves. If he had just stayed behind the scenes, he’d still have a job.September 16, 2021 at 9:17 am #1204463414
Now it’s Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings through 2021, while still searching for a permanent host. Mess.
