In a sit-down video interview with the Television Academy Foundation, Ellen Holly best-known for her iconic and groundbreaking role on One Life to Live as “Carla Gray” talks about being the first African-American actress with a continuing major role on a soap opera and the turmoil behind it.

I bought actress Ellen Holly’s book, One Life: The Autobiography of an African American Actress, around 1999 or 2000. (I think the book was published in 1998.) It was fascinating to read about the experiences of Holly, who is now 87, and I think long-established soaps viewers really appreciate those videos (embedded in Michael Fairman’s report) on this life member of the Actors Studio.
