This is so incredibly sad ): She was my all-time favorite daytime actress – she and her character, Kim on As the World Turns, meant the world to me. I am so heartbroken. So glad Alan Locher had her as a guest on The Locher Room last year.

Very sad news. I wasn’t a longtime viewer of ATWT, but Kathryn was one of my favorites.

You were the first person I thought of when I heard the news. 🙁

Yes, extremely sad. I have asked Alan Locher if he would consider doing a tribute to her on the Locher Room. He interviewed her and Don Hastings (who just turned 88 recently) on his youtube channel (with a guest appearance from Scott DeFreitas) – so glad he was able to do that interview!

    R.I.P. Kathryn.

I feel so sad every time one of my beloved soap grandmas passes away: Frances Reid (Alice, DOOL), Anna Lee (Lila, GH), Peggy McCay (Caroline, DOOL), Helen Wagner (Nancy, ATWT), Jeanne Cooper (Katherine, Y&R; though for some reason she seemed less of a “grandma” type, more like a “grand dame”… anyway). I guess few people except for us longtime soap fans can relate to how much these women and these families really mean to us.

As for Kathryn Hays… I absolutely loved her. Her sweetness, her grace, her elegance, her voice. I especially loved her relationships with Bob (Don Hastings) and Barbara (Colleen Zenk). I mentioned recently in another post that one of my favorite stand-alone episodes ever was the ATWT episode in which all the iconic ladies of Oakdale (Nancy, Emma, Barbara, Lucinda, Lisa, Susan, Kim), especially the scene with Kim and Susan. 🙂 It was so poignant, especially after all the history between them.
    Here’s a link to that episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pd9X1gs5NJc

How about we share other episodes with Kathryn Hays in this thread?

Rest in peace, dear Mrs. Hays/Mrs. Hughes, and thank you for everything!

Alan Locher put up some short clips this past week from his great interview of Kathryn and Don Hastings (with Scott DeFreitas as a special surprise guest). Alan does such a great job for us as we mourn the passing of our all-time favorite daytime performers and I thank him so much for it! (:

The Kim/Bob Hughes Locher Room reunion was such a treat. With Kathryn Hays’ sad recent passing, it takes on even more special meaning, one I’m sure fans will cherish for years to come.
