I’m wondering what’s going on with Melissa Reeves, if she’ll get the boot after her recent controversy. Isn’t she close with Kristian Alfonso? Could Kristian be leaving if they decided to fire Melissa?

I’m not sure what, if anything, is happening with Melissa Reeves. It would seem weird to fire someone in connection with a public controversy and then keep it a secret. But even if that were the case, I don’t think the timing works, since Kristian filmed her final episodes before the COVID break. It seemed like Kristian was close with a lot of people in the cast.

With so many people leaving the show I have had the subversive thought that they might go to a half hour format! (; It’s just a fleeting thought (and unlikely!) but I assume it would cut down on costs and keep the show on the air? I am always worried that Days might get cancelled. Unlike the two CBS shows I have never heard that Days is hugely popular overseas? It would be great to know what the finances are like for the four remaining shows and how they make money – or not!

I haven’t been bowled over by nuAllie, Lindsay Arnold. I don’t see her staying with the show long-term. She’s o.k. but nothing special and doesn’t add anything to the canvas long-term imo.

Ironically Will and Sonny have had much more screen time this year – they are on constantly! I am loving it and dreading their leaving ):

Hope is basically in the role of ‘heroine’s mother’ at this point, with not much to do. I know KA left for a few years at one point, has she left for any other significant periods of time and then come back to the show?

The DAYS cast is so big right now that they could probably be cut in half and still sustain an hour-long show with no problem. There are times when the show seems to almost exist in two hemispheres, though lately things have been nicely integrated. I can’t imagine them going to a half-hour format. That would be wild. While DAYS never feels in a comfortable position with regard to renewals, we do at least have the satisfaction of knowing they’re on the air through September 2021, and since contracts are already in place, I don’t thing going to a half hour would be possible at any point before that. I don’t know about now, but at one time not too long ago, DAYS was very popular overseas. It was so loved in Australia that it launched a contest that ended with them awarding a role to an Aussie hunk. I don’t remember the name of the actor or the character, but he was a doctor who apparently knew Daniel from medical school (absurd, because the guy was more believable as Daniel’s son than someone who went to school with him) and eventually fell in love with Kayla. The last thing I remember him doing was driving Kayla cross country to the commune where Joey and Jade had run away to, where Joey eventually got shot in truly the funniest scene of someone getting shot I’ve ever seen.

It is funny that Will and Sonny have gotten so much screentime lately! I’m enjoying it while it lasts. It’s becoming clear that some stories and character directions are going to take a fairly sharp turn when we get to the post-hiatus stuff they filmed before the COVID shutdown. It’s frustrating because, among other things, Ron and the writers seem really dialed in right now, and soap writers can have a tendency of just going off the reservation when characters/stories are pulled away from them for contract/money reasons. The contrast between some of the stories Hogan Sheffer had planned when he was writing the show and what we ended up getting was incredibly stark, and he admitted that he more or less threw his hands up in terms of trying to realize a strong creative vision and just put out shows.

I wouldn’t really have a problem with Hope’s story just being in a family capacity right now, as Ciara’s mother and Claire’s grandmother, though they are playing her friendship with Rafe a good amount, so she could easily be thrown into the Allie baby adoption roulette story as well. It’s a moot point now, but what they really should do for Hope is put her back in charge of the police force and cast a new love interest for her that she has to interact with for work. Both the Rafe and Ted relationships were fairly doomed because both those characters were brought in and geared to do very different things from what would make them work as a love interest for Hope. No one to see Hope being taken in by a guy she barely knows pulling the wool over her eyes and scheming with Xander and Kristen. No one wants to see Hope marry her niece’s ex-husband after he slept with said niece and lied about it. These were no-brainer bad decisions. People will say that fans won’t accept Hope with anyone but Bo, but the Hope/Aiden relationship was working until they for some reason ruined his character for Bo’s death arc and then doubled down by ruining it a second time AND having his son rape Ciara. Again, these were obviously terrible decisions that shouldn’t have seen the light of day. Cast an actor in his 50s with whom she has great chemistry — and there should be bunches of them to choose from, considering how many soaps aren’t on the air right now — and let him be an ISA or FBI liaison working with the police commissioner on a big case that’s led him to Salem. Of course they’d clash over jurisdiction and him having not much respect for due process and him suspecting people Hope considers above suspicion, etc., but they’d develop a mutual respect and friendship that really could just be a slow burn for like a year because the main story wouldn’t be a love story.

But yes, except for maternity leaves, Hope has been on continuously since KA’s return in 1994. The last time I remember her being away for a period was, I believe, when Kristian was pregnant and Hope went to visit JT.

I watch Freddie Smith’s podcast on YouTube and he suggested they move Days to Peacock, which I think would actually be a great idea. That sounds more feasible than either cancelling it or making it a half hour.

That’s an interesting thought, and in addition to being more feasible than a cancellation or cutting the airtime in half, it’s a much more preferable option as well. I’m eager to see what Peacock will be like when it launches in a few days.

I’ve had Peacock for months now since I’m a Comcast customer, but I haven’t checked it out because I’m waiting for the Saved By the Bell reboot. They need to market it better because I don’t even know what shows are on it.

This story from Entertainment Tonight had some very good information from Kristian herself about her departure: https://www.etonline.com/kristian-alfonso-shares-the-moment-she-decided-to-leave-days-of-our-lives-after-37-years-exclusive

    Some key takeaways for me:
Kristian told the show she was done after the show wanted to shelve Kristian/Hope for five months before giving her a new story.

Hope’s final episode as filmed wasn’t meant to be that, and Kristian had other scripts that were scheduled to be filmed before the COVID shutdown.

Kristian does NOT plan on doing guest appearances or returns, and has gotten calls/offers to do other things.

I’m wondering now what her last episode will even be like, and whether there’s any chance that DAYS could/would convince her to come back and film a few episodes to wrap up whatever story was happening or have a graceful exit.

My hunch is that within a few months she signs a contract for GH or B&B. Those are two soaps I could see actively courting her. She could easily portray a Cassadine on GH or a new Forrester family member on B&B.

It’s really unfortunate that Kristian doesn’t seem open to the idea of ever coming back (presumably not even to film a short, proper exit for Hope), so I’m left wondering too if her final scenes as they stand are still able to provide viewers with at least some closure. Otherwise, I suspect DAYS will address Hope’s exit as transpiring off-screen.

She did say she’s gotten some calls/offers. There seems to be a lot of talk of B&B bringing her in as a Taylor recast, which feels like a risky move, since, as far as I know, there’s no real reason Hunter Tylo can’t do whatever the show would want done with Taylor. Of course, not long ago, they did this exact thing by bringing in Ingo Rademacher as Thorne, virtually slapping Windsor Harmon in the face. But it also sounded like Kristian wanted to focus on things outside of acting.

I thought Victoria Konefal was still just considered a rumor?
