Who has the best fake soap accents/dialects of all time? I was thinking the other day of what a great job Kathleen Gati does with Liesl Obrecht’s accent on GH, really consistent and it never sounds particularly insane. Joe Mascolo was kind of the same as Stefano on DAYS. In both cases, I would believe it was genuinely just their way of speaking.
Almost at the other end of the spectrum, there was Tanya Boyd’s completely bananas accent as Celeste on DAYS, which was memorable and fun even if it didn’t seem realistic. I also found Lisa Peluso’s southern drawl as Lila Roberts on Another World to be pretty fun and something that sticks with me still decades after the show’s been off the air.
What are some other really good or really fun ones?

But for WORST fake accent I would go with John Aniston for his French accents on both Love of Life and Search For Tomorrow!!!!

ReplyCopy URLMarch 10, 2021 at 12:56 pm #1204105431I was thinking about Jill Larson too – she’s from Minnesota and her real life speaking voice is completely different… even though she is originally from the south Dorothy Lyman’s accent was superb as Opal as well during her 2 1/2 year run in the role.

There’s a clip on YouTube of Roger Howarth and Erika Slezak switching roles for one episode. Howarth’s Slezak/Viki impression was hilarious!
Robin Strasser/Dorian’s fake French accent was always a hoot too.

Was anyone else also floored by the fake Aussie accent Mike Manning put on during the recent SOD podcast? He was spot-on and certainly had me fooled! If DAYS were to craft a doppelgaenger from Down Under to his Charlie Dale (perhaps through the tried and true soap formula of a long lost twin lol), I’m convinced he could effectively pull it off!

York’s Aussie accent during his early GH days, I never heard it. I didn’t even realize the character had ever been played with an accent until he talked about it on his SOD podcast episode.

Jill Larson
Joe MascoloVicky Wyndham was one of the worst when she took on the role of Justine on AW!

ReplyCopy URLMarch 12, 2021 at 8:58 am #1204112639I kind of love it when a great actress takes on a second role and is just undone by the accent. Maura West’s Denise DeMuccio accent was insane, like Real Housewives of New Jersey dialed up to 13, but since it was just Ava faking it, it worked.

and Ilene Kristen speaking as Roxy Balsom was a feat of linguistics to say the least.
and who could forget Rena Sofer’s New York accent as Lois on GH!
