I just read on Soap Opera Digest’s website that DAYS has issued a casting call for Dr. Valerie Grant, an African-American woman who was on the show and involved with Julie’s son David Banning in what SOD says was the first interracial couple on soaps.  I’d heard before about how the show had canned the relationship between Valerie and David supposedly because of negative fan reaction to it.  That’s a shame, but what’s really interesting is this Washington Post article about the situation.  It’s amazing how all of these people are talking so opening about what was happening and how they felt about it, especially the actor playing David, who was still on the show!  And the details about the writer suing the show and the annual salary in there.  It’s all a little shocking.

What’s also shocking is the number of typos in this article. Wonder if it’s a result of mass transition to an online platform?

Wonder how the lawsuit came out. Smith’s had a career of short stints and had the misfortune of replacing Doug Marland at Guiding Light, a job that went very poorly and resulted in being fired after one 13-week cycle.

True but she did great work at GH.  So that redeemed her. and anybody replacing Doug Marland was going to face an uphill battle.
