I can’t wrap my mind around the fact that OLTL didn’t even get a Drama Series nomination throughout the whole 90s
Especially the 94 95 era when it was arguably the best daytime soap on television

I have said it many times on here but Kathryn Hays never getting an Emmy nomination (and really she ought to have won a time or two) for playing Kim on As The World Turns for 38 amazing years (1972-2010) is the biggest snub of all time!

It was very odd that One Life To Live wasn’t nominated for Drama Series in 1994 – it ought to have been a tie between it and Guiding Light (All My Children was the winner, because they submitted the scenes around the racial hate crime attack in their reel – GL and OLTL split all of the other major awards that year and it was AMC’s only major Emmy win for 1993-94). And yes, OLTL ought to have been nominated far more often for Drama Series, Robin Strasser, Hillary B Smith and Kassie DePaiva all deserved far more nominations (and wins) than they got over the years. So many snubs for OLTL!

Surprising snubs, Alison Sweeney over the years until she finally got her first nomination upon leaving the show ( before returning for stints )

Deidre Hall not being nominated since the 1980’s for lead actress. I really feel as though she deserved a nomination at least in 1993 ( 1994 emmy’s ) for the affair with John and Belle’s kidnapping. and in 1994 ( 1995 emmy’s ) for the breakup with Roman and finding out that Belle was really John’s and not Roman’s. Also the year that they had about 8 or 9 actresses nominated for lead actress, and not one for days especially Deidre Hall, felt like a personal slap in the face, yea the writing was shitty that year with melaswen, but it wasn’t her fault. lol

Kristian Alfonso not having a win ( or nomination since the 80’s ), the death scenes of Zack didn’t show a whole lot of tears, but there was the aftermath of finding out that it was Chelsea who actually hit Zack, and Bo helping keep it a secret. Specifically if she had submitted the episode, that the clip in her interview was taken from on soaptalk, she deserved at least a nomination. clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gixLd9YtQsQ

Renee Jones – Lexie dies episode specifically should have gotten her at least a nomination. ( or makeup nomination in the technical categories ) she was awesome in that scene.

While Chandler Massey deserved his 3 consecutive wins, his first non-win nomination surprised me as that was when he was new and he couldn’t do a scene without that shit-faced grin on his face. lol its good that he improved since then. Even more surprising was that Drew Tyler Bell was nominated with him and pulled off a win. lol

Shelley Hennig losing to Christel Khalil total snub and shock.

Casey Moss losing the one time he was nominated, possibly one of the biggest Dool Snubs in emmy history.

Olivia Keegan while deserving the younger performer win last year, was still a shocker for me that she beat out every male performer as well as her fellow nominees. Most improved actress IMO.

All the years this past decade that Peggy Mccay ended up in lead actress over others, and susan seaforth hayes in supporting actress over others. both surprises.

    Jerry VerDorn over Michael Sutton

If I may I can understand why Ver Dorn won over his competition Sutton and his co star Frank Beaty. I’ve seen all three guys reels (they have Ver Dorn’s 96 reel on YT and I had to search hard for Beaty and Sutton’s). If I were voting I would have voted for Ver Dorn as well. His reel was so controlled and within range and not so over the top. The first episode dealt with the stress Ross was under trying to do a commercial and the second episode was Ross finding out from Matt that Blake was right about Dinah faking her own kidnapping followed by Ross confronting Dinah about the kidnapping. It was Emmy gold.

I always felt that the academy knew that if they nominated Sweeney against the likes of Sarah Brown, Kimberly Mccullough, and Heather Tom she’d win easily and that’s why she was never nominated in the 90s. Hall definitely should have been nominated in the 90s. Now I do have to admit Drew Tyler Bell deserved his Emmy. Thomas’s outrage over Rick about Phoebe’s accident and preying on Steffy and sleeping with Taylor was everything. A lot of people don’t know what certain actors have picked for their reels and they wonder why they’ve won. Bell definitely deserved it.

Zack’s death on Days was so heartbreaking no one got a nod for such a powerful storyline and it’s a Shame.

in hindsight VerDorn deserved his Emmy, but at that time it was a shock.

Sutton was involved in one of the biggest storylines in soap history, so he was the heavy favorite that night

Yes, several – but particularly 1990-91 for the Kim/Bob/Susan triangle, and 1985-86 during the secret admirer storyline, and 1984-85 when Kim found her way back to Bob, and 1979-80 for Dan Stewart’s death storyline, and… truly she was always amazing!!!!

I thought he had the Emmy in the bag that night, and he a slam dunk reel.

I watched Rome Flynn’s reel a few times and I still don’t get it

I can’t believe it was his only nomination and he clearly had the winning reel – Rome Flynn was solid but I have to wonder who was on that particular panel??? He has won I think 4 Goldies for his work and was nominated every year he was on the show pretty much with us. I re-watched Casey’s amazing reel and it is one of the best reels I have ever seen!

I always thought it was ironic that Beverlee McKinsey didn’t get one nomination for her portrayal of Alexandra Spaulding on Guiding Light, but her recast Marj Dusay got a nomination her first year on the show

I’ve always wondered about the directing award in 1993. As the World Turns won, but Guiding Light had submitted Ross’s Election Day dream, which was a stunning technical and artistic achievement and one of the most striking episodes of daytime ever produced. I don’t know what was on World Turns‘s reel, but I would have seen GL as an obvious choice.

Guiding Light only won two directing Emmys

I know one of the wins was for Frank and Eleni’s wedding.

I am not sure about the other one

The election episode should have won it was way ahead of its time.
