According to an article on soaps.com, Marcus Coloma’s last air date is either today or yesterday. Another actor will appear as Nikolas to wrap up the story next week, and then I guess that will be that.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 31, 2023 at 4:18 am #1205275672It is beyond time for the show to clear up what Mason is up to and why he has hooks on Austin and then move on from it quickly. Austin needs exes and children to show up – he’s in his fifties and so far we know nothing of his romantic life or if he has any children? Roger Howarth is such a good actor – his friendship scenes with Britt were a step in the right direction but that’s over. Personally I wish they would just bring back Todd Manning for him to play (and then bring on the OLTL characters to interact with him and the rest of the cast!)
The 60th anniversary is coming up in a few months. I know we are getting a longer visit from Jane Elliot but I keep thinking we are going to get a visit from Anthony Geary – this is just a strange hunch, I haven’t heard anything along those lines but I just have a feeling about it.
On the one hand I like Nina getting revenge on Carly but I don’t trust the show to not take Carly’s side in it since they always favor Carly. But I like the possible fun of it!
I am surprised how quickly they are moving along with Willow’s baby – I thought maybe we would get a baby switch with Esme’s baby, there hasn’t been a baby switch for awhile! (;
I am thinking that the hook killer will strike again during Portia and Curtis’s wedding (or non-wedding as there is a secret to be found out and told!) (;
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 31, 2023 at 7:51 am #1205275839The scenes with Nina and Willow (and Michael) were kind of nice in that it felt like they’re at least making progress in terms of not just being super hostile to Nina all the time. It kind of concerns me, though, what they’ll do with Nina and Carly. Now that Nina won’t be getting into any hostilities with Willow and probably not really Michael either, I worry that the writers will put that all into Nina/Carly interactions in a way that really won’t be good for Nina, since the show refuses to have Carly suffer consequences from any of the bad things she’s done to Nina (outside of Nina directly doing things for which she will be demonized). Carly and Drew thinking that keeping their relationship a secret would help them avoid insider trading charges seems very silly. Everyone knows that the two of them of very close, whether the relationship is romantic or not. But I suppose them hiding the relationship is better than us having to see them making out all over town.
It’s very funny how every time Stella has been off screen for a few weeks, she shows up and we go through the same beats: Aunt Stella! I didn’t know you were back in town!/Well I had to cut my trip short because I couldn’t miss [insert event here]./Does TJ know you’re back in town . . . and so on. Is it just me? There are a bunch of people on the show who are frequently off screen for weeks at a time, so they could definitely just have Stella appear without the whole production of her having been in London. Though I guess in yesterday’s episode, it really played into the plot.
I keep forgetting about the Mason stuff with Austin until Mason shows up again. They do need to resolve it, but maybe they’re trying to find some way to make it feel important. Now that Britt is dead and Austin and Maxie have broken up, his character is pretty unmoored. They seemed to be trying out Austin and Ava, which could be good, and then maybe they’ll do something with Austin’s history.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 1, 2023 at 8:58 am #1205279438Nice to see Inga Cadranel’s Harmony (or disharmony!) again. I have been surprised how rapidly this all has happened. Michael has been the kiss of death to most of his girlfriends but I doubt they will kill off Willow!
I am worried that Ava could be imperiled by Mason… I don’t like her going anywhere by herself! Maura has been on the show for almost 10 years now. I have been watching her since 1995 when she came on to ATWT as Carly.
One of the things I am liking right now is that there are several storylines where I am not sure where it is going to go….
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 2, 2023 at 9:04 am #1205280846How early are these people arriving for Britt’s memorial? They’ve been talking about it for three episodes now. At this rate, Michael and Willow’s baby will be able to give the eulogy by the time it actually starts.
I did enjoy seeing Inga Cadranel again as Harmony (Disharmony! I love that!) tried to drag Willow to hell with her. And I agree, there are a number of storylines that I can’t really see where they’re going, which is fun. Though I am also a little confused by some things. Like I’m not sure what Trina wants to happen with leaving Spencer alone to talk to Jordan. Does she want Spencer to just show Jordan the video to be on the up-and-up? I was under the impression she wanted him to consider not using the video altogether, but maybe I misread things? I also was surprised that, as sweet as it was, Felicia went and brought Charlotte to see Valentin the other day. The group of people who know that Valentin isn’t actually dead is already pretty big with Laura, Alexis and Martin in addition to Felicia and Robert, and now they’ve added a child, and Victor’s grandchild no less, into the mix. I hope they come up with a better plan than just waiting for Victor to screw up.
A couple of other funny notes: I got a chuckle yesterday during the scene when Carly was fretting about wanting to go sit with Michael. Bobbie says, “Well, Sonny’s there isn’t he?” which I thought was supposed to mean that Michael has his father for support, but then Joss followed up by adding that Nina would also be there, and it would just end in a fight because Sonny or Nina would make some hateful comment. The casting of them as ghouls who just persecute poor Carly is so absurd that it’s comical. Also, I laughed out loud during the conversation between Stella and Jordan when Stella mistakenly thought that Curtis and Portia might be related. It took her so long to come to the obvious conclusion that Curtis might be Trina’s father.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 2, 2023 at 1:33 pm #1205281297What did people think of Britt’s memorial? I would have liked clips and esp. of Britt with young Spencer (Nicholas Bechtel) – I loved their relationship in particular from her first stint on the show!
I suddenly thought Nikolas might be a hook killer victim but I have no idea where they are going with it – they could just send him off for a while and then bring him back in a recast….
Looks like we are getting some good stuff coming up soon!
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 3, 2023 at 8:44 am #1205282288It would be pretty crazy if they had Nikolas get killed by the Hook, but then I think it was kind of crazy that they did it to Britt. I don’t know where they’re going with Nikolas, but I’m eager to see this confrontation with him, Spencer and Laura at the chapel. We must be very close to the character’s exit, so maybe he just leaves to escape everything that’s going on with him in Port Charles.
I thought the memorial was okay. There were sweet moments, and it was nice to see as many people in attendance as there were. Something did feel a little off to me. Maybe people weren’t devastated enough? Brad and Liesl had their emotional moments, but people were mostly fine, with the sentiment being “surprise! Britt was pretty great.” It’s not a bad tone for the character, but it’s strange to have a memorial that feels that emotionally reserved. Flashbacks would have been nice, and I also wouldn’t have minded if they’d skipped the actual memorial and had the tribute just be a few people coming to her office afterwards and remembering her together, like expanding the Brad/Liesl scenes to include Spencer, Terry and Maxie at points and letting those last the entire episode.
I’m thrilled we’ve been getting so much Sprina lately!
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 4, 2023 at 8:02 am #1205283526To paraphrase something the great Meryl Streep once said about the great Viola Davis in 2009 ” My God somebody give Adam Huss a movie!” Or a contract in daytime or primetime. He has continually proven to be General Hospital’s VIP of the past two years as the” break glass in case of emergency ” Nikolas Cassadine. Adam Huss is the reliable boyfriend you call at the last minute when your date cancels. He shows up showered, shaved, in a tux complete with roses,a box of Whitman Samplers, a smile and het gets the job done.
Once again GH has had to call upon the last minute talents of Adam Huss to step into the role of the dark prince Nikolas Cassadine. And as always, Huss delivered like Muhammad Ali going into the ring with heavyweights Maura West, Genie Francis and Nicholas Chevaz.Huss has often time been saddled with having to step into the middle of a major storyline and ends up delivering a knockout performance. If there was an Emmy category for Best Temporary Recast Huss would win in a heartbeat with Friday’s episode. No disrespect to the talents of Marcus Coloma, but his scenes with Maura West always came across as Benjamin Braddock and Mrs. Robinson sparring to have monkey sex. While Huss brings a Mano vs. Maura dangerous sex quotient to the table. The sexual synergy between Nikolas and Ava is there. The pinch hitter to his credit had immediate chemistry with the troika of Spencer, Ava and Laura. If I didn’t know the show’s history, I would’ve have assumed he’d been playing the role for decades ( the goodbye scene between him and Francis was a masterclass) It’s time for the network to stop making Adam Huss the second choice/standby but the first choice.
And on a side note, breakout star Nicholas Chavez as Spencer Cassadine deserves to compete in the big boy category of Lead Actor. The recognition of his talents shouldn’t be limited to his age. He’s a lead. Easily the best actor on GH and does GH really want to trot out Maurice Benard for another Best Actor win? An actor that looks like a deer caught in the headlights every time the camera is on him because he can’t remember his lines?Chavez brilliantly embodies all the complexities of a character that is both ruled by his head and his emotions. To be a Cassadine or not be a Cassadine that is the question? Chavez keeps me on the edge of my seat watching him struggle to not fall victim to his Cassadine legacy but somehow does.Bravura.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 5, 2023 at 1:07 pm #1205286367I’m honestly surprised that with Coloma’s exit, GH still opted to write Nikolas off the canvas with Adam Huss right there as a viable option. Considering the terrific job he’s done filling in for Coloma time and again, it feels like a no-brainer to have promoted Huss as a permanent replacement for the role.

I totally agree. GH must have something else in the works if they aren’t willing to sign Adam Huss. Tyler Christopher has made it no secret that he wants to return to GH. Maybe he’s gotten his life together and ABC is willing to give him another shot or maybe Jordi Vilasuso is on GH’ s radar as Nikolas Cassadine ( just a thought )
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 6, 2023 at 9:50 am #1205294260I totally agree about Adam Huss. He always does a great job when he steps in as Nikolas, and these last few days, he’s been fantastic. GH is not the best at reading the room or calling an audible when a situation is in flux, so if they had planned to write Nikolas out with the thought of how things were going with Coloma in the role (and for the most part, I feel like the fans have totally turned against his version of the character), the happy accident of getting Adam Huss to finish the storyline, because Coloma wasn’t available, probably won’t change their minds on what they’ll do in the short term. I actually feel quite bad for Nikolas now, which is almost a miraculous achievement on the part of Adam Huss considering how much I had been feeling like Nikolas deserved whatever Spencer and Ava were going to do to him. I’m really excited to see the confrontation with Ava in today’s episode. The chapel scenes Friday were dynamite. It took Spencer all of, what, an hour to be off-book with that confession and just reciting to his father?
Now that the Emmys have restricted the younger performer category to 18 and under, Nicholas Chavez will have to compete as either a lead or supporting actor at this year’s Emmys. Based on the sentiment I’ve heard soap actors express over the years, it seems likely he’ll compete in supporting actor, despite Spencer being a big driver of story with a ton of screen time who is very important to the canvas and is played incredibly well, because of seniority. I would love to see him turn up as one of the lead nominees.
As a side note: The Joss/Dex conversation is exactly what I mean about the fake gratitude and also fake responsibility. Joss essentially says that she feels really guilty about Britt and really bad about what she did to Cam, even though, in both cases, she knows she shouldn’t. But shouldn’t she? She also says she really wanted to go to Britt’s memorial but couldn’t because she was adoring her new niece. That’s an excuse but it’s hardly a good reason.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 7, 2023 at 3:32 am #1205295356What a cliffhanger! I was thinking maybe they were going to do a murder mystery – who killed Nikolas? But I wasn’t expecting that ending. Who walked in at the end? I am thinking it will be Victor and not Austin? Is Nikolas dead? I bet he will be whisked away and not really dead and will eventually return…
Great scenes between Nikolas and Ava, Spencer and Laura, Austin and Mason – the whole episode was really good! I am a little tired of the “wait until morning” to tell and that was part of why I thought Nikolas would be killed or gone by morning… Finn is Elizabeth’s lapdog! (;
I really want Chase to go back to being a cop instead of a singer – is this storyline ever going to end?
Will Ryan, Heather and Esme really escape? I want that to happen! Move the storyline along please!
I like that GH is surprising me lately with some twists I wasn’t expecting…. I thought maybe Nikolas would die a hero saving Ava from Mason or the hook killer but I wasn’t expecting this – his threatening Avery was definitely not the right thing to do with mama lioness Ava! It will be interesting to see where they go with this from here…
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 7, 2023 at 11:19 am #1205296014Yesterday’s episode was mostly good! Ava/Nikolas, Spencer/Laura, and Trina/TJ scenes were great! The Liz/Finn scenes were interesting. For most of the scenes, Finn essentially felt like the other side of the same coin as Nikolas. He calls out Nikolas for how he manipulated Liz into helping him with this coverup, but then they quickly discuss how Liz helped Finn cover up Peter’s apparently homicide, followed by Finn very blatantly trying to manipulate her into doing what he says. I’m guessing they probably didn’t intend to make him took as bad as I thought he came across, since he and Liz are warmly hugging at the end of the scene, but it was another instance of me really hoping these two don’t become a pair again. Friendship is fine!
The idea that Chase might further delay a return to police work out of sympathy for Blaze is hard to swallow. Every time Linc and/or Blaze show up, it feels a little unbelievable that these are actual characters we’re still dealing with. Blaze as the face of Linc’s sexual harassment victims also doesn’t work for me, especially since we already have Brook Lynn, who we know was driven to extremes by wanting to get away from him. I don’t know. Any story that takes us further into the music industry stuff seems very ill advised.

With the Younger Performer Category now capped at 18, there is no reason for Nicholas Chavez not to go for the Lead Actor gold. Hopefully the ageist baism that shut Bree Williamson ( OLTL ) out of a deserving 2008 Lead Actress nomination won’t be visited upon Chavez. Many thought that OLTL had overshot it’s skis when they submitted her in Lead Actress as opposed to the safe space of Best Supporting ( Williamson had outaged Best Younger Lead Actress ) How dare she even think of competing in the sacred watering holes of the Lucci’s, Slezak’s, Zimmers, Hubbards, Flannarys and Coopers said many. At the time it was an exclusive club that rarely admitted anyone of pre-perimenopausal status entrance. Best Lead Actor has usually been an easier group to crack ( Darnell Williams and Billy Flynn immediately come to mind ) With there being a dearth of shows to pull from compared to the ’80’s & ’90’s, chances of Nicholas Chavez making it into Lead Actor despite his youth, should be good. Putting that calculus aside, like you mentioned @EmmyLoser, Chavez has driven his storyline and has had the screen time. Other than Chavez, no other male lead on GH this past year has made me say ” Now That’s an Emmy performance “. If there is a Best Supporting Actor slot to be filled on the ballot, I can think of no better hopeful than the terrific Parry Shen.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 8, 2023 at 4:22 am #1205297075So Austin is going to cover it up for Ava. When I saw Victor talking to Spencer I knew then it would be Austin. Will they just say he has left town? What happens now with the custody storyline?
I agree about Chavez – I think he belongs in lead actor and he is the only lead from GH (male) who deserves to be in the category. It was interesting that GH didn’t land a single nomination for lead in the Goldies and very few citations were given for any of the five actors, whereas Chavez was the biggest winner of all in his category. I think the cutoff age of 18 is ridiculous but that’s where it stands for now.
