The end of Thursday’s episode was what I had been expecting, but I still loved it. Roger Howarth and especially Rebecca Herbst have done a really good job in the Franco/Ava and Liz/Nikolas scenes to show that a shift had taken place in the dynamics between them, but they were really subtle. This was a story that, up to the Nurses Ball, I had not been loving and had been complaining about, but now I’m very into it and looking forward to seeing where it goes.
It feels like the GH writers have made excellent use of the COVID break, having had time to watch what played out, see how things were going, and then proceed accordingly.September 29, 2020 at 8:57 am #1203741384
Interesting interaction between Alexis and Ned yesterday. I liked their meta conversation about how their couple didn’t have the high drama of Sonny/Brenda or the glamor of Brenda/Jax, but they were witty and charming and people liked them. I was wondering, though, if Ned didn’t realize Alexis had been drinking when he came back into the bar, or if he just didn’t feel compelled to try to stop her/worry about it? Obviously his running off Valentin was about ELQ stuff more than actual concern for Alexis, but it’s still kind of funny that as soon as Ned made Valentin leave, Alexis hopped off the wagon and into a double vodka. But Ned himself was quite drunk, so maybe he just couldn’t tell about Alexis.
Also funny was Cyrus — who is kind of a stunt queen in terms of constantly going places where people don’t want to see him and then being taken aback when they are rude or chilly — protesting that the police harass him and then immediately inserting himself into Chase’s business with Julian.October 6, 2020 at 9:30 am #1203763503
Good to have GH back this week – will there be more baseball pre-emptions??
Really enjoyed the four teens yesterday, and Ava and Nikolas too. Mostly the show is great right now!October 6, 2020 at 1:23 pm #1203764000
The preemptions should be done. Those were just because of the extra playoffs when they expanded the postseason for COVID.October 7, 2020 at 8:12 am #1203765065
I was thrown by the preemptions last week, but glad things should be back to normal. There are things happening in so many storylines that not having a daily dose is tough.
BTW, Olivia’s face when Ned accused her of sleeping with Robert is basically the same look on my face when people online suggest a Robert/Olivia pairing. I know soaps do it all the time, but she just seems so young for him. Also good to get the clarification that Ned was too drunk to know that Alexis was drinking, which makes sense.October 12, 2020 at 10:19 pm #1203774928
Boozy Alexis is my new favorite character, but Brando shouting in a crowd with the vigor of a man auditioning for the lead in a local production of Macbeth is also gaining on the competition.October 13, 2020 at 4:51 am #1203775277
God the Cyrus thing with Brando is basically televised Valium…October 13, 2020 at 8:44 am #1203775707
On the one hand, it seems like almost everyone now wants to do something about Cyrus, which is good, but on the other hand, if Brando and Sonny are really going into this whole man-on-the-inside scheme, it feels like it could be a long time before anything actually comes of it, which is not ideal.October 15, 2020 at 7:14 am #1203780217
It’s funny that Brook Lynn returned to Port Charles like a year ago as this great singer, and in that timeframe, we’ve heard singing from what feels like every character other than her. Also, I’ve generally liked the show’s original songs, but that Deception song is not something I’d want associated with trying to get people to buy cosmetics. Every time Amy said the word “ruins” it felt like another step toward things inevitably going awry.October 15, 2020 at 9:32 am #1203780581
Wish they would stop pre-empting GH!!!!!October 21, 2020 at 9:20 am #1203793558
I would so enjoy a visit from Robin Mattson’s Heather – I miss her!!! Also: how about a return for Steven Lars? He could be paroled from prison by now!
Really enjoying the show so much – the pacing is particularly strong. Even characters who usually annoy me have been less annoying lately!!!!
Dev’s manipulation of Cam is so human yet so misguided on Dev’s part.October 21, 2020 at 9:37 pm #1203795642
I’m glad they’ve given Dev some purpose in the last few weeks, and it feels very in line with his history that he’d nudge things along in the direction that suits him. He’s also clearly the most expendable character in that quad, so it’s easy to make him the agitator.
I also agree I’m generally liking the characters on the whole considerably more than I had before. The biggest about-face has been with Valentin, a character who I couldn’t stand when he was grasping to hang onto Nina through his lies regarding Sasha, but who I now love. I think he’s taken Julian’s place in my heart as the unsavory character I can’t help but root for. I do hope they continue moving him away from Nina, though, because there’s no real connection between him and Cynthia Watros’ Nina currently. She doesn’t play Nina with the fire and impulse that made her a good match with Valentin.October 23, 2020 at 9:19 am #1203798417
The character of Valentin is yucky but James Patrick Stuart is excellent in the role and his acting skills have lifted the character up for me. I like too that Nina is not with him currently and hope that continues (just like I vastly prefer Alexis away from Julian).
I enjoyed Maura’s smoldering intensity during Ava’s talk with Nikolas yesterday.
I so look forward to GH every day!!!!October 23, 2020 at 9:49 am #1203798493
I’ve never been on board with Julexis the way a lot of fans seemingly were, but I think Alexis and Julian make really good exes. The hard thing is that Julian can just be a background character who hooks up occasionally but will more of less always be in love with Alexis, and that works for him, but Alexis needs something better than just dating guys who aren’t Julian, especially when they don’t really seem that into her. Dr. Byrne was kind of a step in the right direction, but he was not that exciting of a character.
