Sean Blakemore is listed as under contract so quite a while I’d imagine…July 27, 2021 at 9:03 am #1204365651
The show is still very strong, but I’m getting fatigued on a few things, two of which are now colliding (Ryan and Alexis). The Ryan stuff has been run into the ground as far as I’m concerned. He only has one hand now and he’s completely paralyzed. It does feel like in a couple of years we might learn he recovered from the paralysis, started faking, escaped from wherever he was, etc., but even that story works way better if they’re not constantly talking about him and having him show up in places. The other thing is Alexis in prison. The character is in this weird liminal space where she has to face punishment while most of the murderers and other criminals on the show don’t, but then is also getting privileged treatment among characters who do go to prison. That they didn’t take the opportunity to give her parole or something similar after the story with Judge Carson is frustrating when you think of things like Sonny getting pardoned the one time he was in prison, but also she’s getting a fair amount of screen time with no natural storyline while someone like Brad was sent to prison and never got to play out the denouement and repercussions of the baby switch’s effect on his and Lucas’s marriage. It feels like they’re obligated to keep NLG on screen but feel fine making Alexis a bit of a punching bag to pay lip service to the idea that some criminals do have to face consequences. It’s just not the right criminals.
So now Alexis is in this story with Ryan (I agree with the point that Ryan being transferred to a minimum security facility feels not only silly but just categorically wrong) which ties into Nikolas, who seems at least marginally busy covering up his involvement in the crime that got Shawn sent to prison, even though there were on-screen conversations among characters like Shawn and Sam who already knew what he’d done. But I like that at least this focus seems to have shifted somewhat to trying to find Hayden. I won’t complain about the writing inconsistencies if the story gets Rebecca Budig back on screen. Maybe Hayden is somewhere with Drew, and they’ve been off the grid out of fear of Peter? I don’t think it’s been confirmed, but they very heavy assumption is that Cameron Mathison is playing Drew, so at least his return seems imminent.
I really enjoyed the developments with Liz/Jason/Finn/Anna regarding Peter’s body. It seems almost a given that Finn and Anna will open that freezer to find it empty, but we don’t know if Jason moved the body or it was already gone. I’m glad it didn’t take weeks for Anna and Valentin to realize the person on the roof with Peter was Finn (the way it’s taking way too long to Nikolas to consider that Spencer is the stalker).
Also, I agree that it’s great seeing Monica get so much time on screen lately, and I love that she’s the chair of the hospital board. The decision to make Terry and Britt co-chiefs of staff is a little cheesy, but I like it. It felt like Liz was a little too harsh to Britt when Terry asked about her, considering that Britt has made considerable efforts to be decent to Liz lately and Britt was nearly murdered for helping to rid the hospital of Cyrus. There’s this thing on GH where any time a new woman sleeps with Jason, every woman who’s slept with him before has to be antagonistic to her.July 27, 2021 at 12:29 pm #1204366097
The empty freezer was inevitable, and for me disappointing. I don’t want Peter becoming another Faison, showing up every few years as a short-term villain. I like Wes Ramsey and if they brought him back as another character I wouldn’t mind but no more Peter!
I agree about Alexis but my thought about Ryan is that I like it if it gives Jon Lindstrom something more to act. I know it was his decision to be on the show less often but it’s gotten ridiculous!
I have a strong feeling that they will pair Spencer and Josslyn eventually. It feels inevitable.
Stella’s meddlesome act gets tiresome for me. ):
All of the Hayden mentions make me think either Rebecca Budig will return or a recast will happen.
Today’s episode flew by so fast – it left me wanting more!July 27, 2021 at 2:39 pm #1204366436
I really hope they don’t recast Hayden. Rebecca Budig played the role so gloriously! I’m fine with Cameron Matheson as Drew since Billy Miller (through no fault of his own) had no handle on the role since the writers didn’t really have a handle on it and TPTB dicked him over.July 28, 2021 at 8:07 am #1204367584
Yesterday’s episode was all characters/stories that I really enjoy. I don’t love that Stella is meddling to the degree that she is with Curtis and Jordan, though Jordan should have known better than to just leave those signed divorce papers right in front of Stella’s face. I also like the idea that Curtis and Jordan’s divorce would linger rather than being quick and clean the way many soap divorces are. It’ll also be interesting to see where the story goes. Curtis and Portia are great together, and I could believe that Jordan and Shawn might get together. (The show may have been thinking to do this with Taggert but changed course.) That would create a pretty complicated dynamic that could be really interesting.
It seems like we’ll get something similar with Spencer and the other kids. It does feel like the show wants to put Spencer and Joss together, but I’m more interested in playing things out with him and Trina. Spencer’s addition feels like a good thing for the group, though. Despite some minor mischief, Joss, Cam and Trina have all been such good kids — Joss’s big act of rebellion was trying to play volleyball on her busted ankle and then driving to pick up her dad from a rando town in Pennsylvania — and Spencer is this preppy bad boy who could really shake things up.
I hadn’t considered that they might recast Hayden, but I’d hate that. At that point, I don’t think it would be worthwhile to even bring her back. Rebecca Budig or bust! I hope she does come back, but if RB isn’t interested or available, they should just close the loop and give us an explanation for where she is and why she hasn’t been with her daughter.July 28, 2021 at 9:35 am #1204367699
I just realized that NuNikolas and NuSpencer were introduced the same way: in disguise at Ava’s gallery…and now I feel dumb for not picking up on it.July 28, 2021 at 1:10 pm #1204368099
I enjoy Laura Wright’s acting so much more when she isn’t screaming her lines, so I really enjoyed her on today’s episode with Carly talking things over with Laura in a much quieter speaking voice. All that yelling she does in so many of her scenes annoys and irritates me. Just my opinion.
So now we have the mystery of the empty freezer! Good grief!
Lots of friendship scenes today.
Brando standing up to Gladys was fun. She’s a hoot!
They need to move Austin’s story along better than they have been doing so far. The pace is too slow imo.
At first there seemed to be urgency to Jason and Carly marrying right away but apparently it didn’t matter at all!
My favorite hour of every weekday!July 29, 2021 at 9:49 am #1204369600
I didn’t pick up on that with Nikolas and Spencer either! That’s a cool nod.
Sasha did a great job dealing with Gladys in yesterday’s episode. I enjoyed that.
While I think the scenes with Laura and Carly were, generally speaking, very good, I always feel like Laura should be less friendly with Carly/Sonny in general. I always kind of roll my eyes when Laura is talking about how much she loved/respected Sonny.
It is kind of funny that Carly and Jason getting married seemed urgent, but now it’s just rolling out very slowly. I guess the engagement is enough to squash the idea that they are competitors rather than a team. I find it odd that so many people are so chill about Carly and Jason’s engagement. From what we’ve seen on screen, it seems like the everyone is generally on board outside of exes with residual feelings for Carly or Jason’s and Gladys, who is unambiguously terrible. Like I’d expect someone like Olivia to have some opinions about Carly jumping into an engagement with Sonny’s best friend this quickly, and I’d think Robert Scorpio would have a snide comment or two. Between the fact of how quickly this is happening and Carly making enemies of any women to whom she’s not related, I would almost expect a larger version of what Sam and Elizabeth did, but less focused on “moving on” from Jason and with more complaining about Carly.July 29, 2021 at 10:28 am #1204369715
In the early years of L&L coming back, Sonny and they were incredibly close friends so I can kinda see where that interpretation would come from. I don’t know that she ever had a specific falling out with Sonny over the years and their kids were married after all. And they did share a grandson, and he is the beloved uncle to another grandson so that all would factor into it…July 29, 2021 at 11:46 am #1204369912
Luke was friends with Sonny. Laura barely tolerated him and was one of the few characters who regularly gave him verbal smackdowns. I don’t remember her interacting much with Carly.July 29, 2021 at 1:04 pm #1204370109
I was really happy with the closeness between Nikolas and Ava today – my question is about Spencer’s motive in calling a truce with Ava: to divert suspicion, genuine remorse, or some other reason?
So much talk about Hayden, I will be really surprised if she doesn’t come back – at least for a short-term stint.
I find it crazy that they aren’t more concerned about Ryan – it is like they have collective amnesia in everything that has happened over the years in Port Charles, all of the crazy things that have happened, especially when it comes to dead or seemingly vanquished villains! (;
Rebecca Herbst continues to be wonderful in all of her scenes.
The mystery of Peter continues. Valentin and Anna’s scene was particularly good.
Loved mama Olivia and Dante’s talk today too. Lisa Lo looked great imo!
GH has the best friendship scenes.
I always want each episode to keep going and am disappointed when the hour is over!!!!July 30, 2021 at 2:29 am #1204371530

Laura and Carly ran a cosmetics company for a while. Sarah Brown was playing the role at the time. If I remember the particulars correctly, Sonny purchased half the company for Carly and the relationship between the two blonds was contentious. Their secretary was openly gay, he and Carly became friends.July 30, 2021 at 2:39 am #1204371544

Laura had a major falling out with Sonny back in the day.A teenage Lucky had moved out when he found out his father Luke had raped his mother and that she’d forgiven him. All of this when Lucky was helping Elizabeth deal with her own rape. Sonny let Lucky live in the apartment above the jazz club that he and Luke owned. A hit was put out on Sonny ( I think but Lucky wasn’t the intended target ) and the apartment was torched. Everyone thought Lucky was killed in the fire and Laura went full on postal on Sonny’s ass blaming him and his corrupt lifestyle for the death of her son.July 30, 2021 at 4:31 am #1204371670
That was Jason not Sonny. Sonny was off canvas when Lucky moved out.July 30, 2021 at 4:38 am #1204371687

My bad. I think you’re right. I just remember Genie Francis ripping the character apart and calling him out for his lifestyle of crime and of course Sonny would come to mind.
