Oddly, I find myself very invested in Carly and Jason’s friendship, even though I despise Carly, thanks in large part to Steve Burton’s acting during the numerous scenes we’ve gotten explaining, examining and recounting the beats of their friendship. That said, I feel overloaded on scenes of Carly feeling hesitant and conflicted about this marriage and the exploration of what it means for their relationship. When’s the last time an actual bride in a non-sham wedding got this much attention? I also agree that SB and Laura Wright do not have romantic/sexual chemistry, but I guess the show figured they have nothing to lose, since LW doesn’t have chemistry with Maurice Benard either. Ultimately if I’m choosing between Jax and Nina, of course Jax is right that Nina lying to Sonny and to his family isn’t the right thing to do. However, I don’t feel like Jax is being particularly reasonable, so much as just pushing his agenda, which is understandable considering that Sonny’s absence is creating a more dangerous situation for Joss. Jax refusing to acknowledge anything Nina was saying was a little frustrating, especially since his conclusion that Port Charles needs Sonny (and more specifically that Joss is less vulnerable with Sonny there) is predicated largely on Carly’s decision to double down on the mob stuff rather than make any effort to extricate herself from it. It also helps Nina that while she’s not telling Sonny the truth about who he is, she’s not actively withholding his memories from him in the way that some characters on this show have done to others in the past. In any event, I’m excited the plot is moving forward and eager to see what happens with the wedding. I agree that Cynthia Watros has been excellent in this story, and has done a fantastic job of making her Nina really stand out versus Michelle Stafford’s Nina, who at this point seems like a totally different character. I love that Spencer and Esme keep having to remind one another that the hurtful accusations people have made against them are basically true. Spencer has been terrible, but the show has already angled toward Spencer considering confessing and Esme pressing him not to with various manipulations. I’m sure Spencer is telling himself that Ava could be with her daughter if she’d just do the right thing and divorce his father. It’s not a great excuse, but it’s something. Ava is also a character who the audience generally forgives for her bad behavior because we love Maura West, but what she did to Spencer was fairly awful.
I thought I was only one who thought Maurice and Laura had no chemistry
Maurice has more chemistry with Cynthia
Laura has more chemistry with IngoSeptember 11, 2021 at 9:20 pm #1204453044
^^^Totally. It feels kind of shocking that they didn’t have Carly and Jax even almost reunite or sleep together in the wake of Sonny’s “death.” And I really like Maurice and Cynthia together. You can tell from interviews that Maurice feels hamstrung by fan opinion that Sonny and Carly must be together and so he often doesn’t get to dig into relationships with other actresses, not that he doesn’t love working with Laura.September 12, 2021 at 3:59 am #1204453413
Maurice is supposed to interview Laura on his youtube show this afternoon at 1 p.m. EST. It could be interesting.
For the first time ever I have enjoyed Maurice Benard’s work on GH but as Mike, not Sonny. I saw just a few minutes of Monday’s repeat broadcast where he was playing Sonny and I am dreading the return of Sonny’s memory ): Everything Nina said about Mike vs Sonny was 100% true. She is still wrong to keep him from his wife, children, and grandchildren. It’s a nutty storyline but an effective soap opera plot.September 13, 2021 at 12:26 pm #1204457693
I was surprised by Phyllis pulling out the gun and then Peter pulling out his – looks like lots of characters are going to converge at the Tan-O over the next several episodes with Mike and Jax outside and Anna and Valentin on their way. I always think that Peter should have a villain’s long mustache to twirl during his scenes! (;September 14, 2021 at 9:05 am #1204459094
The scenes at the Tan-O were very tense! I was surprised by Phyllis pulling out the gun also. I’m excited to see where things go in the next couple of days with that. I imagine that situation will resolve and people will head to Port Charles for the wedding, but I guess we’ll see! So then, are we to take it that Peter is working with Victor? Has he always been? Does he know all these people are in that facility alive? Man, I bet Nina is really wishing she’d let Liesl kill Peter when she had him tried up in that cabin!
I didn’t realize that Ava was planning on leaving Port Charles without Avery. I thought the whole point of her leaving was so she’d be away from Nikolas and it would be safe for her to be with her daughter again. Hopefully this secret is exposed before much longer. If Trina or Joss tells Ava or Nikolas about Spencer being in town earlier than he claimed and Esme referring to Kiki as Lauren, it could crack things wide open.
I didn’t catch Laura Wright on the State of Mind podcast, but I did really enjoy her Soap Opera Digest podcast interview last week.September 14, 2021 at 11:15 am #1204459335
Briana Nicole Henry has announced she has left the show. After a slow start I got used to her and she was very good as Jordan. I do however prefer Vinessa Antoine’s version of Jordan and I am wondering if there is any chance she might return to the role?
Yes, they need to expose Spencer as the stalker. I do not want Ava leaving the show for any real length of time (a vacation for Maura, fine, but no extended leave!).
Charles Shaunnessy said in the Michael Fairman interview that he will be GH for six months.September 14, 2021 at 2:27 pm #1204459815
Peter ought to have a long mustache to twirl! (;
Josslyn is on to Spencer and Esme! Spencer needs to either be caught or confess!
Didn’t much care for the other scenes today.
Mike to the rescue? Will Jax help out? Will Anna and Valentin arrive to help?
Now Phyllis knows the truth about Mike being Sonny! I hope they don’t kill her off of the show.
Tense and excited for tomorrow’s episode!September 15, 2021 at 10:56 am #1204461491
With all the excitement between the stuff at the Tan-O and the Carly/Jason wedding, the Sam/Dante scenes, Alexis/Harmony scenes, and Drew/Chloe scenes really felt like a waste of time, not that they were bad. I just don’t need any focus on this now instead of the much more exciting things happening elsewhere.
As much as I can’t stand Peter, I do think Wes Ramsey has maybe finally found a groove that works as Peter, or at least did in the scenes in yesterday’s episode. This man who seems morally bankrupt, fairly delusional and really into taunting people makes more sense as a character than when we have to get into the loving Maxie and obsession with being a family with her. Hopefully Mike is able to save Phyllis and Nina, and then Valentin and Anna will get there in time to find out Peter is alive and was just there. The Tan-O burning down might be a good way to get Phyllis to come to Port Charles. Even though she’s probably quite disappointed in Nina’s deception, she’ll probably want to be there for her when the truth comes out.
I was shocked to see Briana Nicole Henry’s announcement that Monday’s GH was her last episode. I assumed she had some other project going and needed a few weeks off. I haven’t heard anything, but I’m guessing the plan is to recast the character. It would be delightful if Vinessa Antoine came back to the role.
BNH suddenly announcing that she’s out makes me worried that Maura West will actually be gone from the show for some time. Frank Valentini tweeted yesterday that Ava’s days in PC are numbered, but I hope that’s not true!September 15, 2021 at 1:22 pm #1204461923
Say it isn’t so! No Maura as Ava would make me miserable! Perhaps she is just taking some time off and will return in the future?
Briana Nicole Henry has left the show of her own volition. She felt it was time to move on.
Today’s cliffhanger really surprised me! Didn’t expect Mike (Sonny) to be the one knocked out in the fire! Today’s episode was superbly directed.
The wedding is supposed to be on Friday’s episode; looks like we are in for some fireworks but I doubt it will be the Sonny is alive reveal… but who knows?September 16, 2021 at 9:29 am #1204463439
Yeah, with Mike being knocked out now in the fire and the wedding about to start, it looks like the nuptials will likely go through without the reveal that he’s alive. I’m sure Nina, Phyllis and Mike (and probably Jax too) will need some medical attention, and presumably Anna and Valentin will be in Nixon Falls soon to learn that Peter is alive. That information could get back to the wedding very quickly potentially and cause something of a stir, but maybe the biggest fireworks will come from the literal explosions that the Five Families are planning at the Corinthos warehouse.
Remember when one of the many excuses Sonny gave for not just killing Cyrus was that Cyrus was clearly working for someone bigger, and killing Cyrus would just mean they were dealing with someone else that person would send? That seems to have gone away, but I wonder if the notion will come back.
I’m hoping Frank was just trying to drum up excitement with his tweet, but it would feel like a weird thing to throw out there if Ava won’t be gone for at least a short bit of time. I’m starting to wonder if this has anything to do with all the vaccine drama?
The scenes with Britt, Terry and Elizabeth were fun, too. I’m glad Maxie convinced them (or convinced Terry at least) to spend some time with Britt. The whole charade of Liz having deleted Terry’s notes was funny, and I like that it only worked because Britt was willing to help out, though it seems like she saw through it.September 16, 2021 at 12:11 pm #1204463773
Drats! Sonny has remembered Carly – well, all good things come to an end and I knew this was coming ):
The wedding was a bit more populated than most soap weddings these days.September 17, 2021 at 11:52 am #1204466044
The wedding was surprisingly very good, very enjoyable.
I hate that Sonny is back ): But it was inevitable. We will have to see where they go from here with the storyline.
Peter being out there potentially harming my girl Maxie is making me nervous.
Cliffhanger Friday time…September 18, 2021 at 4:21 pm #1204468247
Cynthia Watros has been doing fantastic work this past week.
I dare say it rivals her work on Guiding Light the year she won her EmmySeptember 18, 2021 at 7:09 pm #1204468645
The September 17 episode will make a strong submission for Directing at the 2022 Emmys – well done!
