Caught up with yesterday’s episode this morning. Another strong episode. Sonny admitting his feelings towards Nina to Dante was a highlight, and his accepting a ride from her at the end was a nice touch. I thought it was going to be Jason who showed up at the bridge but it was Drew. Elizabeth still grieving over Franco was a super nice touch, and Finn being so understanding about it too. The Corinthos clan all blaming Nina epitomizes why I can’t stand them. Nina figuring out it was Liesl who told Scotty about Mike and Nina in Nixon Falls was a nice scene.

We haven’t seen Peter in quite a few episodes. Can they please be done with this storyline soon?? Can we have the reveal that Bailey is really Louise? Get on with it!

Is today’s episode going to be a repeat? That was clearly a New Year’s episode!

The best and worst of GH in 2021!

    Best:

    – Nixon Falls. Loved “Mike” and Nina, Phyllis and Lenny. A wonderful way to shake up storylines, bringing Carly and Jason together in Sonny’s absence, and giving us a break from “loveable” (sic) mobster Sonny for almost a year. The aftermath and fallout from it was great too.

    – The Peter is a murderer-bad guy reveal, and everything to do with Maxie’s baby being born. Peter’s “death” was great but wish it had been permanent. The double wedding that didn’t happen. Favorite scene of the year: Maxie tells off “Henrik” (Peter) in her hospital room, telling him that their baby was abducted (she’s actually “Bailey”, being taken care of by Brooklynn). Kirsten Storms deserves an Emmy for her work in that storyline.

    – The paternity switch that had Finn believing he was Chase’s father, and especially the poisoning of Chase by Peter – some of the best acting of the year was delivered during that story especially from Michael Easton and Josh Swickard.

    – the downfall of Cyrus Renault. Having Laura such a big part of the story was particularly great.

    – the teenagers on GH. Trina, Cameron, Josslyn, Spencer and Esme have created memorable scenes all year long.

    – Leo’s autism. Such great work from Lisa LoCicero, who was also great in January at the end of the Ned/Alexis had sex reveal too.

    – Britt and Jason on the run. Jason helping her with her diagnosis. They have great chemistry together.

    – Nina Reeves! Cynthia Watros plays her with vulnerability but also with tremendous strength. She stands up for herself. She is the actress of 2021 as far as I am concerned.

I have left out so much. Valentin and Anna. The female friendship scenes. Scotty and Liesl. Liam’s death was powerful. I am sure I will remember even more over the next few days.

The best thing about GH is its consistency. It is so well produced, written, directed, and acted.

The worst of GH in 2021:

    – the insistence on siding with Carly and Sonny and putting them at the center of the show. Carly’s self-righteousness.

    – Ava caving in to the stalker. That is not Ava’s way of handling situations. Maura was great of course.

    – Peter always “winning” and getting the upper hand. Wes really needs to grow a mustache to twirl.

    – the complete destruction of my once loved character of Michael. I can’t stand him anymore.

I am sure there were other stories and things that happened that I was not crazy about but that’s what has popped into my head this evening.

Today’s episode was special. Tracy tells Laura that Luke is dead. Great scenes between the two of them, Laura and Kevin, Laura and Bobbie, and Tracy and the Q’s. And the twist that Victor was behind Luke’s death too. They mentioned everyone except for Lucky on the list of people who needed to be called and told.

Nice scenes between Ned and Olivia today too.

Laura mentioned Lucky in the first scene and Kevin repeated it when he was talking to Nikolas about tracking down Ethan.

We all know that Luke isn’t really dead!

This has Cassadine interference written all over it.
I remember that when GH came back from the pandemic shutdown that there was a HUGE Adventure Story planned for the vets that included Holly’s return, though, with Emma Samms suffering from long Covid, that story was not to be.

What if this is the actual story.
    Victor had “Luke” killed.
    He is with Holly.
We know that Constance Towers has returned to film scenes, and Tristan Rogers is apparently going to get more airtime.

    It’s all connected 😉

^^ That’s what I was thinking. They’ve basically rewritten the previous Holly story and if anything upped the stakes with it. And I’m fine with that!

Actually now would be a good time for Denise Alexander (Lesley) to pay a visit with everything that is going on in the plot.

The idea of a big adventure story involving a bunch of the vets is certainly intriguing, and I’d like to see where something like that would go. Victor is already driving me crazy with being behind multiple kidnappings and (attempted) murders in just a few months, but I like when shows have a central villain/scapegoat who is connected to the show but also who we’re not supposed to ultimately forgive or feel bad for. I definitely thought Luke might not actually be dead, but then wondered whether that even matters, as Tony Geary seems very unlikely to return to the show for any meaningful stint of time. I’m also a person who has never liked Luke and wouldn’t want to see him again, but that’s just me. As far as other vets, I say bring it on, and I’m happy for literally anyone to take screen time away from Carly, Michael, Willow and Peter. When Peter came out of the coma the other day, I thought, “Geez, entering the third year of one pandemic and the fifth year of another!” If Peter figures into this bigger story that had to be shelved because of the pandemic, I suppose it’s more understandable that the show kept him around so long, but still.

It’s always great to see Jane Elliot, and there were lots of very good scenes yesterday with the news about Luke spreading. The ending with Tracy asking Brook Lynn why she’s still pretending that baby is hers was great!

DO we have an idea of what they actually plan to do with Alexis? They floated the idea of her working with Sam, but then shot it down. Then she was going back to school, and it was suggested she should be teaching law instead. This was my thought as well, as the idea of her taking a class alongside Josslyn and other college freshman seemed rather absurd. But maybe her criminal record will prevent that, so now Shawn wants to hire her at the Invader (which now looks like a high school newspapers from the 80s), which, even with the social justice angle, feels like a weird fit.

Going back a couple of episodes, I loved the Nina/Sonny developments on New Year’s Eve. I also find it interesting that Carly seems to have responded to Sonny’s past with/feelings for Nina by openly pining for Jason. This may be a way of pushing her towards Drew (blech), but she doesn’t seem super interested in making it work with Sonny, which is great as far as I’m concerned. The Sonny/Carly scenes outside the courthouse were good, but also kind of funny in ways I’m not sure they were supposed to be. When he started telling her about Elijah Crowe, I laughed out loud. I also had to snicker when Carly asked Sonny to look her in the eye and say he doesn’t have feelings for Nina, and he responded with, “I don’t know what you want me to say.”

GH ended 2021 strong and is starting out 2022 the same way!

It’s hard to follow the show’s logic on when a character’s criminal history affects their ability to get a job and when it doesn’t. Alexis herself took a plea deal for Kiefer’s hit and run and had no problem working for the next 10 years after that. Now pleading guilty to Dante’s assault and getting pardoned means she’ll never be able to pass an employment background check? All while more then half the characters on the show have committed serious crimes and still hold high-level positions!

My guess is they’re plan for Alexis is to put her back with Shawn. There’s no real drama in Alexis being a student or professor. Working with Sam would probably just be played for comedic hijinks whereas working with Shawn could lead to a rekindled love affair.

She had better chemistry with Julian and Neil but the show decided to kill them both off in the same year for some reason.

I’d love to see her get pulled into some Cassadine drama. The show stopped including her in Cassadine storylines in a meaningful way like 20 years ago. I’d love for that to finally change!

WHY? Why do they continue to let Peter get the upper hand all the frickin’ time? It’s gotten stale and it’s time to put an end to Peter once and for all!

Tracy figuring it all out is great! She’s back one day and she figures it out!!!!

My take is that Luke really is dead. They needed to finally close that chapter and Tony Geary is never ever coming back to the show.

Unless somehow Martin decides to take a dive in Martin’s case I too do not look forward to seeing Peter draaaag on for more months. Something tells me the reveal about Bailey and his storyline will probably peak around May.

God I love a visit from Tracy although I wonder what will happen when Chase shows up since the last time he was going to see her, he had a warrant for her arrest for filing a false police report. But come on in this town that’s a slap on the wrist at best right?

I do wonder if they didn’t reach out to Tony with a ton of money since they didn’t know what the fallout would be from the Rademacher and Burton situation to have him do a guest return for Feb or May sweeps. Wilder shit has happened before and they’ve got on canvas all his besties…

General Hospital has delayed its return to filming new episodes after its holiday break due to increases in covid. IDK how much ahead of time GH films before air dates?

It’s generally about a month but there are periods of pre planned production breaks built into the schedules (especially around holidays).
