Beginning Wednesday January 29, ABC will resume airing original unaired episodes of General Hospital on broadcast television in their West Coast territories and those areas not impacted by recent ABC News’ live coverage of the Senate impeachment trial. Full episodes of the show will be made available for viewers each day on ABC, the ABC app starting at 8:00 PM EST, and the following day on demand and on Hulu.January 30, 2020 at 9:39 am #1203319890
I’m so glad GH is finally starting to air in the U.S. and be back on Hulu again. It was rather disorienting, though, to have this be the first episode back after the little hiatus, mostly because it started the episode with the three shootouts and then went back and showed what happened before them. I wonder if it only seemed like an odd choice to me because the show happened to have been away for a while, or because nothing that was happening during the episode explained why the shootouts were happening. We can draw conclusions, of course, but I think it would have been better to just be surprised at the end of the episode.
They’ve been going in the direction of doing more mob stuff, and I’m not really a fan, but I hope we do get past this current era where Sonny is basically allowed a pass on the fact that his business is dangerous and violent and brings potential danger and violence to everyone around him. This whole thing where characters like Julian and Ava are too dangerous to see their own children or grandchildren but Sonny is father of the year is absolute bull, and I hope the start to call him out on it more. Anyway, I can already see their being tons of fallout from these shootings — Jax rightly freaking out about Josslyn being in harm’s way, Laura possibly doubling down on her plans to revitalize the waterfront, Carly having been right that Sonny shouldn’t combine the trip to help his dad with mob business, etc.
The Ava/Nikolas scenes were good, and I find it really amusing that their arrangement is getting more and more unsustainable. So now there’s a fidelity clause, and they’re also not going to have sex with each other? Don’t they know this is a soap opera? I don’t really see why Ava’s so opposed to the idea of having sex with Nikolas. Sure, he’s a jackass, but she didn’t seem to mind that before. It seems bound to happen sooner or later.January 30, 2020 at 3:49 pm #1203320705
What I have really liked lately is they’ve brought Ava out of her despair over losing Kiki and have her at her conniving best. Plus the newfound relationships with Nik and Nina open up lots more possibilities that don’t have to do with this mob nonsense no one wants to see.January 31, 2020 at 2:13 pm #1203322436
Totally agree. I never would have thought I’d enjoy a burgeoning friendship between Ava and Nina, but it’s really working for me.
The scene yesterday where Maggie the Brooklyn bartender recounts the events of the shooting for the detective was so funny to me. We had just seen the whole thing, so I was kind of shocked that they spent that time having a random person recap all of it. Dustin showing up at the docks for the shooting was also funny. I guess he’s Jason’s understudy.February 4, 2020 at 2:57 pm #1203330011
It was nice seeing today’s episode in its regularly scheduled time and channel! (: So that’s it for Jane Elliot’s guest stint as Tracy – it was wonderful spending time with her again!
Was today’s episode from before the shootings or afterwards?
btw, I loved Jax’s solution for Sonny! Give yourself up! (and leave the show!) (;
I really like Peter but they have written him into such a corner that he can’t survive all that much longer as a viable character on the show. I feel bad for Anna though.
I wish Lucas would wake up already and get the storyline moving again!
Can Delia come back on the show and visit her daughter?February 5, 2020 at 10:11 am #1203331209
I’m sad that Tracy’s return is coming to an end so quickly! She’s been such a highlight of the Quartermaine scenes.
The episode was chock full of frustrating conversations and interactions. I also feel bad for Anna and the position she’s in, but it bugs me that she’s doing all of these things to protect Peter from the consequences of his actions. It feels like deep down, she must feel that he’s guilty, or she wouldn’t be so concerned about the slight evidence she was. Then there was Sam justifying the crap that her kids potentially have to go through because of mob stuff by saying how resilient they are. And of course, Carly and Sonny acting like Jax is just being petty and mean by suggesting maybe his daughter (and all the children) put some distance between themselves and Sonny while he’s being targeted.
But the stuff with Janelle at the Quartermaine mansion was funny. I especially liked Ned pointing out that Michael moved Nelle into the Q mansion to keep her away from Wiley without any regard for Leo or any of Monica’s grandkids who spent time there. I do want Lucas to wake up, but it’s fun watching the Wiley story progress without him. These people have no qualms about trash talking Brad as a terrible father and general train wreck, even to his face.February 5, 2020 at 12:31 pm #1203331410
I know I ask this every few years or so but …what is it Saint Sonny Hanging on the Cross Milking It for All It’s Worth does that’s so illegal it requires all this? It’s not prostitutes, strippers, or drugs so…again what?February 6, 2020 at 9:27 am #1203332854
I’ve wondered that, too. Weapons trafficking? General racketeering? I thought there may have been some more specifics about once upon a time, before I was watching the show. It typically seems like he’s importing/exporting something illegal, and extorting a fee from others moving goods through Port Charles. Those are my vague best guesses.February 6, 2020 at 10:15 am #1203332897
It’s basically the most chicken shit have it both ways thing ever. We want him to be involved in something illegal…but it can’t be TOO bad because he has to be our hero.
Just kill him and put us out of our misery already.February 7, 2020 at 10:58 am #1203333967
I like that Michael made the hugest stink imaginable about Janelle staying with (Brad and) Wiley but then he volunteered to take Wiley home with him, to the very home he just invited Nelle to live in, and no one said a word. Also Julian just not leaving when Carly kept trying to order everyone out of Lucas’s room.February 11, 2020 at 8:47 am #1203342889
You know what could be really interesting? If Saint Sonny finally realized that the danger his criminal activities bring to his loved ones isn’t worth it, and he’s going to go legit and just be a coffee importer. It would give him some actual moral ground to stand on, which the show pretends he has now, and has lots of potential story hooks, like people trying to draw him back in or thinking he’s not really out, struggling with only being regular rich and not super duper rich like he is now, struggling to be taken seriously as a businessman. Jason has to deal with not just being able to inflict violence on people whenever. Carly not being able to just threaten people with the same level of impunity with which she does it now. He could help Laura clean up the waterfront and tell her what things to look out for. I would enjoy that kind of thing so much more than this mob war.February 18, 2020 at 4:24 am #1203350511
The baby switch reveal is coming. One problem with it is that we don’t get full payoffs with Shiloh long gone from the show.
I can’t believe how much they are invested in Valentin as a character, extending his villainy by now having him in the ELQ stories ): Blah, blech, no, no, no! Just kill him off in a good murder mystery, please!
How about pairing up Brando and Lucas??? (:
I wish they would bring back Heather, I miss her. Robin Mattson rocks! (:
Quite a few stories right now are dull and uninteresting.
I must admit I have grown to really love Cynthia Watros’s Nina – it took awhile to adjust to her in the role but she has made it her own and has won me over!
