I don’t think Nina is trying to act like Nelle didn’t do any of the things that she did, though Michael and Carly are certainly trying to put forth that narrative. What Nina has expressed several times is regret that she never had the chance to be an influence in Nelle’s life and maybe help her not become what she did. I’ve never seen Nina say anything like, “Nelle wasn’t so bad,” but Michael and Carly are just galled by the idea that anyone would think Nelle could have been made into a better person.

This story was still at its best, in my mind at least, shortly after the return from Nixon Falls, when there were a few very fiery confrontations between Nina and Carly where both really letting the other have it. I liked the Nina/Bobbie scenes too (outside of the prostitute dig — sadly it seems like the soaps are still talking about this kind of sexual exploitation the way they did 50 years ago). It still feels like a weird tone to me that so many people are now friends with Carly and talking about Nina like she started the plague, when I would expect more a vibe of, “What Nina did to Sonny’s family was terrible, but you know what? If anyone deserved it, it’s Carly.” It’s very easy for the large contingent of fans to dislike/despise Carly to be fully Team Nina because: 1) the writers have worked overtime to have people in town support Carly in a way that doesn’t make sense with the characters and their history; 2) Carly, Michael and Willow are constantly framing Nina’s recent actions and current intentions in a way that grossly exaggerates the truth; and 3) all Nina is trying to go is get literally any visits with her grandchild. They weren’t this proactive when Nelle was trying to get custody of Wiley! Also the lack of self-awareness in the dialogue is making me feel crazy. Willow talking about Nina needing Wiley to love her and making up for losing Nelle when, HELLO, Willow jumped into a relationship with Michael and started raising Wiley with him instead of properly grieving the loss of her own son.

The Michael/Willow love scenes were nauseating for me personally, but Chad Duell does look like he’s been working out, so good for him I guess. I agree that the Elizabeth reveal could have had more drama to it, but the performances from Rebecca Herbst and William Lipton were good.

I am glad that Nina’s visitation hearing has finally started. I am worried that buttinsky Dante has poisoned things and that Sonny, being an idiot anyways, will jeopardize Nina’s chances as a result of Dante’s awful advice! Grrr!!!!

I would love it if Carly would just tell the truth about Nina and Willow – how refreshing that would be – but it’s a soap and they drag everything out forever so… NO to a DNA lab switch though! If Carly were to tell on the stand that would be amazing!

Ummm, Carly, Sonny and Harmony have been grandparents to Wiley and have made even bigger mistakes than Nina! Harmony and Sonny are murderers! Geesh! Nina better win her visitation rights!

Way to go Brad, he’s got the Jax lines in today’s episode! (; (I miss Jax pointing out Carly’s flawed thinking!)

Who knows if this was even intentional, but yesterday’s episode really showed the insane double standards that some of the characters have. Michael and Willow say whatever gross, hurtful things they want to Nina, and as soon as she says something they find more offensive than, “I just want to see my grandson,” they act like she’s crossed some horrendous line. Maybe Nina shouldn’t have thrown Harmony in Willow’s face the way she did, but this was about 10 seconds after Michael compared her to Peter and acted like it was some innocuous comment on the weather. It’s really good that we’ve arrived at the hearing, because the story has likely become frustrating for everyone watching, no matter which side you support.

I loved Brad and Britt trying to point out to Carly that while she has every right to hate and distrust Nina, going to these lengths to keep her from Wiley is likely going to create problems down the road. No matter which of Carly’s past baby shenanigans people bring up — first pretending that Jason was Michael’s father and then keeping his actual father, AJ, away from him in favor of Sonny, who was in the middle of like 17 mob wars; pretending that Jax was Spencer’s father and not Nikolas; trying to steal jewelry from Avery to keep anyone else from finding out that Nelle was Nina’s daughter — she always uses the excuse that she was doing what she thought was best for the child, while Nina just wants to see Wiley for selfish reasons. This is insane, of course, since one of the major differences between Nina and Carly is that Carly’s brand of delusional makes her think that she’s a wonderful parent and grandparent whose presence is some enormous benefit to any child, while Nina’s brand of delusional makes her think that remorse and kind words will get her literally anywhere with these people who despise her. Sadly for me, no matter how this goes, it’s hard to imagine there will ever be a satisfying consequence for Michael and Willow for their ridiculous and appalling behavior.

Anyway, I hate to agree with Dante, but I think he’s right in that Sonny testifying in support of Nina will only make things worse between him and Michael and between Michael/Willow and Nina, though it may help her with getting visitation. Honestly, if Sonny is supporting Nina in this hearing, it would seem like Michael should have to have a lawyer other than Diane representing him, but of course it’s too late for that now.

Elizabeth is making the right decision and a brave one.

Are they pairing Alexis with Gregory?

Nina’s visitation hearing is getting intense. It would be so great if Carly revealed that Nina is Willow’s bio-mom during this hearing but realistically this will get dragged out for some time to come…

The writing on the show has definitely dropped from the level it had been for a lot of the last year and a half. A number of stories are moving at a snail’s pace, and not in a good way where the complexities are deepening and things are becoming more interesting. Chase and Brook Lynn keep taking two steps forwards, then three steps back. Anna and Valentin almost never have scenes together. Drew was in town for like six months before the Quartermaines really even talked about getting control of ELQ from Valentin. It just feels like nothing is happening for long periods of time. In other cases, things just don’t make sense from a character and/or logical point of view. I think most of the stuff with Trina, Spencer, Esme, Joss and Cam has been really good, but Nikolas’s actions in the story feel extremely contrived.

I cannot believe we’ve been anticipating Nina’s visitation hearing for weeks now, and then she essentially wilted on the stand over Diane being mean to her. What have she and Scott even been working on this whole time? Were they just arguing about whether or not to put Sonny on the stand? Diane presented a rather weak version of the case that could be made against Nina — I probably would have decided against calling someone twisted and delusional for wishing she could have raised the child that was taken from her while she was in a coma — but Nina’s response, or nonresponse, to being accused of seeking visitation out of revenge was incredibly irritating. I’m sure Sonny’s testimony, and the facial reactions from Carly, Michael and Willow, will be amusing, though since Carly doesn’t even have the results of the DNA test yet, the chances of any of that coming out in court seem slim.

Also, this is minor, but it bugs me that Finn, Laura, Kevin, etc. are going to just believe forever that Chelsea was a fraud who took advantage of Elizabeth and pretended to be the ghost of her dead husband, but Chelsea clearly told Elizabeth that there was an energy that could be from a dead or living person and that’s what they were channeling.

Yeah it really has seemed that since we wrapped up the Peter story the writers just have no roadmap to where to go with anything.  The following are total snoozes: Marshall and everything he touches, Amy having issues with Terri, Michael and Willow (even grosser than usual straight sex and I bet she yells WILEY when she nuts), Jordan in just general, Austin and Maxie, etc. This has been the worst sweeps in terms of stakes in EONS and it’s shocking to me that this is what they put on in May???

I agree – GH has not been at it’s best lately. Here’s hoping the producers and writers are working to remedy it in the near future!

Missed most of today’s episode due to more breaking news….

Now that I have seen yesterday’s episode it was actually very good! Nina’s visitation hearing is compelling and it’s nice to have Charles Shaunnessy back on the show too (and Nancy is back now too – a few days ago).

They really ought to have put the hearing and Trina’s trial on during May sweeps and not at the very end of the month.

I am really liking Rory. At first I thought he was a lackey for one of the villains because he was listening outside the interrogation room door but now I am hoping that’s not the case. I like him with Trina too. He seems to be an “expendable” character though, unfortunately…

Even when the stories aren’t great the cast always delivers!

    Today’s episode was excellent!

I really like Rory and Trina! Should they be called Rorna or Trinry? (; They objectified Rory’s body today and I liked it! (; I hope he’s a good guy but I have a feeling he has secrets…

I wonder if Terry and Chet will opt for a long-distance relationship? Surprised by Amy’s confession! I would rather watch Terry and Chet’s burgeoning relationship than many of the other stories on the show right now!

Geez, everybody at Nina’s visitation hearing has done really terrible things! (; It’s been well done and Scotty going after Michael was sort of fun… I really hope Nina gets to visit Wiley!

I love that Ava is sticking up for herself! She’s gotten her mojo back! Nikolas can be too shallow for her imo. I have a feeling Esme and Nikolas are going to have sex…

The coming up next week segment at the end was very intriguing! Looking forward to next week’s episodes! (:

HAHAHA! The Michael/Willow comments really cracked me up!

The visitation hearing has been really ridiculous in a lot of ways, but it’s entertaining. I still can’t get past Diane cross-examining Sonny on the witness stand. I know Michael and Carly have been acting for a while now like she’s just a family friend who happens to be an amazing lawyer, but she is actually Sonny’s lawyer. Michael really should have had to use someone else. It was also weird how Scott acted like Nina was to blame for his tactics with Michael on the witness stand. And there were so many moments that seemed like they should be seized upon. Like when Diane was commenting sarcastically that Nina was such a good grandmother when she’d only asked to see Wiley twice during the Nixon Falls time period, but the whole reason she went to Nixon Falls is because they told her it was best that she not see Wiley for a while, and she was respecting their wishes, or when Michael expressed his so-called concerns about Nina spending time with Wiley, why Scott couldn’t use that to ask why, then, Michael and Willow don’t even allow Nina to see Wiley under supervision, where she couldn’t tell him things that they don’t want him to hear, or why no one questioned why Wiley didn’t already know that the mother who had been visiting him for months and seeking full custody was his mother rather than Willow. The details are driving me crazy.

I did enjoy the Trina/Rory, Trina/Spencer, Spencer/Esme, and Ava/Nikolas. If Esme is going to seduce Nikolas, she may not find a better opportunity.

I know they are setting this whole Willow/Nina conflict up for a payoff down the road but Willow was so unpleasant and I tell you if she grabbed my arm I would have called for an officer and had her charged with assault! I am sure Carly will justify her actions blah blah blech! I am guessing that Nina will be awarded supervised visitation, and she better be! I am team Nina. Does Willow not realize how painful it is for Nina to have been in a coma and not to have even known her child(ren)? Just so incredibly selfish and awful! I am not even a bit sympathetic towards Willow!

Loved the friendship scene between mother-in-law/daughter-in-law Laura and Ava!

    I knew Nikolas, being a total idiot, would fall for Esme’s non-existent charms! (;

I know there aren’t continuity editors like they’re used to be but yeah that was bugging me. You’d think the actors would pipe up when stuff like that happens. It’s like have you ever been in a creative writing class and you write one part of a story, then someone else writes the next part, then someone else writes the rest? That’s what the show feels like. Like we are elegant corpsing the writing.

    I was thinking what I would bring to the table as headwriter of the show and the more I thought about it I realized I would need Michael to be my co-headwriter to reign in my impulse to get rid of the most popular characters on the show! (;

I think if I were writing a soap the big difference would be that I would care more about drama and having things make sense, I would write more the way the New York based soaps used to be written between the 1970’s and 1990’s and less the way the Los Angeles based shows are written in the here and now. I would definitely look to develop ROOTABLE COUPLES but to give them real conflicts too.

An aside: I am disappointed that Chet is leaving the show. Perhaps it is the actor’s choice? IDK. But I was really enjoying Terry and Chet’s burgeoning relationship!

HA! That would be fun, being the Britt and Terry of the GH writers room. I’m sure we wouldn’t be allowed to get rid of Carly, so I can only imagine what we’d do with her.

Oh how about have Carly in an accident with a head injury and make her super saintly like this side of a nun. She can still be super boundary less and all up in business she doesn’t need to be but for good reasons that often backfire?
