    I was surprised that Ava decided against signing the nutty ridiculous divorce papers (the reason was nutty and ridiculous – but once she finds out that Nikolas had sex with Esme, watch out Nikolas!) (:

    I was pretty sure Spencer was lying to Cameron about the maternity DNA plan. Now the plan has been derailed by Esme’s presence! Looks like the trial will FINALLY begin soon?

    nice flow to the scenes on today’s episode!

    Thinking about and comparing GH 2021 with GH 2022 there has definiely been a decline. There are still wonderful magnificent characters and some decent storylines but there are several problems I have been noticing lately. The pacing of the storylines has been way too slow. The most interesting storylines keep on stopping and starting endlessly (performers contracts? or just not well thought out writing and producing?).

    On the plus side I have been happy that Ava has had more to do but I do wish she was on more often. Trina/Spencer/Esme/Cam/Josslyn/Rory has been great but the pacing of their storyline has been way too slow. Ryan has been fantastic but needs to be on the show more often. Nina is always wonderful but honestly she doesn’t need Sonny. Laura is a tremendous character and when she is on I am riveted to my screen but she needs to be on more. MIchael is totally annoying but I do like his going after Sonny and wish he would succeed at it. Carly having financial problems is great. Scotty and Liesl are a fun couple.

    In the middle I would place newcomer Cody; Brando and Sasha’s storyline is o.k. but not great; Ned’s siding with Valentin has been o.k.; Valentin and Anna are endearing but the story doesn’t seem to be going anywhere all that interesting. I always enjoy Selina Wu but like so many stories on the show it is too intermittent to be all that entertaining. That is the biggest problem: so many stories and not enough progress on them.

    On the negative side Austin has been a waste of time and space. Liz’s storyline has been disappointing – why couldn’t they have brought back her father for a much more interesting storyline? Nikolas being such an idiot has been unappetizing. So many stories are started and then have no resolution.

    GH is still my personal favorite of the four shows. Days this past month has been fairly riveting and the writing has improved immensely as they concentrate on dramatic storylines rather than campy and/or sci-fi stories, and B&B does have the one story that has been great with Sheila, Steffy and Finn that has been compelling (but the other stories aren’t working for me at all). Y&R is a total snoozefest – great cast stranded in storylines that aren’t compelling and I find it extremely difficult if not impossible to make it through an entire episode.

    As critical as I am of GH right now it is still very entertaining, but it needs greater focus, stronger overall storyline arcs, and the pace needs to be picked up with much more forward motion in the stories being told on the show. The thing that makes GH the best for me is the cast and the characters being more interesting than the cast and characters on any of the other three shows. Here’s hoping they work on these problems for the rest of 2022.

    I think the lack of a clear antagonist overlapping multiple stories hurts more than anything. For most of 2021 there was Cyrus and Peter whom the audience hated but it gave the show more purpose and involved a lot of the cast. Now the storylines don’t seem to have this group on this side and this group on the other (except for really Trina’s but it’s taking FOREVER). Just too much scattered and slow storytelling overall.

    Great points, Freeman and Sean! I agree that the lack of a central antagonist or two has been a big issue. Almost everyone hates Esme, but she’s only actually terrorizing a couple of people, and almost no one seems that interested in doing anything about it outside of talking about how terrible she is. Now some characters have been doing things that it seems like would make people turn against them, but that isn’t happening, so we get things like everyone in town acting like Nina is the witch from Hansel and Gretel when she wants to see Wiley, or everyone treating Ned like the bad guy for not wanting to let Michael and Drew use their media company to take over ELQ. So for me, outside of the pacing issue, which is problematic for sure, I have a hard time with the character motivations and reactions to things.

    On the bright side, the show has many, many stories and characters, and I care at least a little bit about almost all of them. Sure, I would be THRILLED if they sent Marshall to an in-patient program that specializes in schizophrenics with bad hearts. If Sasha moved to Paris to head up a Deception office there and took Gladys and Brando with her? Fine. I’m kind of rooting for Willow to get caught in the crossfire of whatever Michael is trying to do to Sonny. Overall, I hope the second half of the year is more focused, streamlines things more, improves the pace of storyline progress (even if the overall stories are taking the same amount of time to resolve) and has characters react more in a way that makes sense with the situation. Things are definitely progressing more now than they were a couple of weeks ago, so that’s a good sign.

    Some really good performances today – I cited Sofia Mattson and Cynthia Watros but really everybody delivered excellent performances on today’s episode. Britt and Cody are moving along now, and I almost felt some sympathy for Carly today (gasp!)… Willow was actually bearable but whenever anyone comments on how great things are going for them on a soap you just know trouble is straight ahead of them! (;

    The performances in yesterday’s episode were really good, especially from Sofia Mattson, Cynthia Watros and Laura Wright.

    As the scenes with Sasha and the baby carrier progressed, I have to say, the show seems to be tormenting poor Sasha with no real interest in her finding peace or happiness. In the last seven or so months, she’s had to bury her child, been on and off drugs several times (including marrying Brando while taking pills) coming with that pain and loss, accidentally run over and him Harmony, and now had a drug-fueled mental break on television. I wish they could have at least given her the dignity of not having her spouse first consent to a search of her purse and then agree to have her held at the hospital against her will. The situation also just felt like such a stretch to me. Given that Sasha is relatively high profile, having told her whole sordid story on Good Morning America and being the spokesperson for what we’re led to believe is an incredibly successful cosmetics company, it just seems too contrived that no one at Heart & Home would have known that she recently lost a child and that inviting a guest to product-bomb her segment with baby products might be a disaster. And to what end? The Sasha story is one of the areas of the show where things actually do happen, but I don’t really have a sense of what we’re supposed to want for Sasha, other than to not be on drugs anymore. It seems like they should either give her something more to be doing or stop torturing her.

    All that combined with the dull (though not nearly as insufferable as they can be!) Millow scenes and the heavy focus on Cody made the episode a wonky one for me, though I did like the Nina/Sonny/Carly/Drew stuff. I want to like Cody, but the writing for the character is pretty irritating, and also this whole setup seems destined to make Britt look like a fool in one way or another. I’m glad that they want to give Britt a love interest, but Josh Kelly got hired not on the basis of the show looking for a love interest for Britt but because of his connection with Frank. That’s fine, but the story is being written like a Hallmark movie where Cody is the protagonist and Britt is the hard-hearted career woman who needs to learn to love Christmas (or I guess horses). I would like to see Cody doing something more interesting than trying to cozy up to a character who has spent the first half of this year trying to get a date on a mediocre dating app.

    It always nice to see ex-Luna from OLTL, Selina Wu and Morgan Fairchild but I agree the show doesn’t know what they’re doing with Sasha. This just seemed like torture porn. Who wants to see this? And having Selina Wu show up to threaten Morgan Fairchild to back off Sasha and Lucy seemed totally random.

    Great scenes for Liz, Jake and Kevin today. I hope this means the story with Liz’ parents finally moves forward now.

    I really don’t care about Alexis and Greg. They’ve already paired Alexis with two sets of brothers (Sonny/Ric & Jax/Jerry). Do we really need to see her paired with an ex-lover’s father? And Finn & Greg have already both slept with Jackie Templeton. Why do they need to repeat that history with Alexis?

    On a shallow note, Josh Kelly did a great job of filling out that tight t-shirt yesterday and Josh Swickard coming out of the MetroCourt pool half-naked and dripping wet today was like Christmas in July for me! 🔥

    ^I really do hope that they bring on Liz’s parents. I was thinking about Michael Corbett as a casting choice for Jeff. He almost was cast as Gregory so he is on their radar. I am not sure if Richard Dean Anderson is still alive or still acting? Perhaps he could play the role again.

    I enjoyed the ladies who lunch yesterday: Laura, Anna, and Alexis. Genie Francis radiates so much intelligence and grace as Laura.

    Michael and OLTLfan bring up interesting points about how even though I enjoyed the acting of Sasha’s scenes they weren’t really entertaining outside of the acting. Selina Wu showing up was random but she is so fascinating in her role. I wish they would make her a stronger antagonist for a year or so like they did with Cyrus – she has such enormous potential but they aren’t utilizing her character wisely imo.

    Still, I have enjoyed these episodes, they have held my interest. By contrast I can’t even get through an episode of Y&R lately.

    Anderson is alive and in his early 70s but it doesn’t appear he’s been active in almost a decade. If they were to recast I would hope they’d keep the actor at an appropriate age and not age the character down like they did with Charles Shaughnessy as Victor.  Trying to figure out the timeline on that one is enough to drive a person nuts…

    Thanks for the info on Richard Dean Anderson!

    Michael Corbett is 66. I think he would be really interesting in the role of Jeff Webber.

    How old is Victor supposed to be?

    So the original actor was a full decade older than Shaughnessy, who is 13 years older than James Patrick Stuart who plays his son.  It’s a rather drastic shift in portrayal.  I like the idea of Michael Corbett.  He seems like a solid daytime veteran and he’s age appropriate to be Liz’s dad and grandfather to those kids.

    I agree that yesterday’s Liz scenes were good and hope they keep going down this road in further exploring her relationship with her parents. I also agree that Selina showing up to help out Deception was very random. I like Selina as a character, but she seems to be kind of everywhere in a way that’s odd and that can really only lead to a bigger story if it’s a story that I wouldn’t like, i.e., more mob stuff. It just occurred to me that Selina may well be the person to buy Carly’s half of the Metro Court, since Drew, Nina, Sonny, Olivia, and Ned all seem to be out as options.

    I’m also very glad that they’ve revealed that Victor is essentially holding Charlotte hostage as leverage over Valentin, which in one fell swoop makes sense of basically every strange thing they’ve done with Valentin in the last six months — the sending Charlotte to boarding school to begin with, the whole business with framing Jennifer Smith, his squirrelly behavior with Anna.

    Alexis and Gregory are so so for me. They don’t jump off the screen, and I can’t imagine the show is interested in giving Gregory all that much screen time, but it’s better than most of what they’ve done with Alexis since she got sober.

    On a shallow note, Josh Kelly did a great job of filling out that tight t-shirt yesterday and Josh Swickard coming out of the MetroCourt pool half-naked and dripping wet today was like Christmas in July for me! 🔥

    LOL, I definitely did some pausing and rewinding as Chase was getting out of that pool. It’s good they had that random woman hit on him. The fact that Chase looks like that and Brook Lynn seems to have no competition for him is crazy. Michael will never in his life look that good doing anything.

    Trina’s trial is FINALLY going to begin. I really don’t know how it will go! I do wonder why Trina hasn’t told the truth about where she was at the time the video was sent? Yes, she promised Spencer and he can get into serious trouble but all bets are off when Trina could do serious jail time for a crime she did not commit!

    What’s up with Chad Duell and his on again/off again switching with Robert Adamson? I prefer RA in the role!!!!! (;

    Geez, they have totally dropped that Carly knows that Nina is Willow’s bio-mom!!!!

    Today they FINALLY brought up a past for Austin – it’s about time! It is probably too late but I didn’t like him as Franco at first either so who knows?

    I am really liking Rory’s budding relationship with Trina! Having watched soaps for as long as I have I expect him to get thrown under the bus in favor of Spencer but I hope they don’t do it. Rory is wonderful and the two of them have great chemistry! (I wonder if it would be different with Sydney Mikayla still in the role of Trina?).

    It has been nice to mostly get a really long break from the mob stories!

    All the preemptions have led to July 4th being a week late! (;

    Trina and Rory do have good chemistry, and I definitely think that having Tabyana Ali take over the role just as Trina/Rory was about to get started and Sprina was basically going on hiatus has really helped them feel rootable. I’m starting to find Rory a little too two-dimensional. The scenes with him and Esme were good, because they showed a little more of him (personality-wise I mean, though he was also showing plenty of that toned body). I’m excited for stuff to really start happening with this trial, and apparently the fact of Trina having been with Spencer when the video was released will come up this week. Poor Spencer, trying harder than anyone to clear Trina’s name and getting constant grief for it. I hope Curtis and Marshall have made some progress in finding evidence against to clear Trina, since I don’t think Spencer’s plan will work in the end.

    According to SOD, the revolving door of Chad Duell and Robert Adamson will be ending soon and Chad will be back permanently soon.

    I guess I maybe spoke too soon about Nina being out of the running to buy Carly’s half of the Metro Court! I cannot wait to see this conversation between Nina and Carly, and if Nina has indeed bought Carly’s half of the Metro Court, what exactly her angle on the whole thing is.

    If the show can’t make Austin likeable or useful, I suppose I’m glad they’re at least trying to make him interesting.
