Was Bradford Anderson on at some point this year? Blake Berris was on as Spinelli early in the year.December 19, 2017 at 8:47 am #1202444371
yes, they both did guest stints as Spinelli in 2017…December 22, 2017 at 11:34 am #1202446938
I watched a bit of an episode the other day because my friend told me the scene in which Sam tells Danny that Jason and not Drew is his father was hilarious (which it was — the ridiculous-sounding explanation, Jason suggesting they shake hands!), and what a pleasant surprise it was to see Britt ever so briefly! Otherwise nothing really caught my attention, though it is amazing how good soaps are at very quickly giving you the lay of the land even if you had very little idea of what was going on before.December 22, 2017 at 1:06 pm #1202446970
I have been finding it impossible to get through full episodes of GH ): I love so many of the actors on the show but the stories are so boring and so OFF. It doesn’t help, of course, that it follows the brilliant hour that is Days Of Our Lives. I would have preferred to see Britt if she was interacting with Spencer personally…December 30, 2017 at 12:13 pm #1202452001
In order to be informed for my year-end reflection, I re-started watching GH a couple of weeks ago. Here are some of my thoughts:
The Drew/Sam/Jason story should be a compelling triangle, but it feels somewhat lackluster. I think it has to do with the low-key personalities of all three characters. Jason has been quiet ever since his car accident 20 years ago. Since Drew thought he was Jason, it follows that he has a similar personality. And Sam is one of the more sedate characters in daytime. So putting these three characters together does not exactly create fireworks.
The storyline with Cassandra dealing drugs is boring. We are supposed to care about this why? Although it’s nice to see Jessica Tuck, I have no investment in this story at all, especially since it’s indistinguishable from the cartoonish crime stories that GH continually churns out. Speaking of which, why is anyone still talking about Faison? Let’s move on.
I’m happy that Kevin and Laura married, but I am bored so far by the story about saving Charles Street. I love Laura, but I’m not super stoked at the idea of her becoming mayor.
In GH’s defense, I see signs that the writing staff is trying, given the way that they are repositioning characters. And hiring Tamara Braun as a doctor at GH with ties to the Quartermaines is promising. But at this point the show needs to be more aggressive with their changes.December 30, 2017 at 12:27 pm #1202452013
I have to confess that I have not made it through a complete entire episode in months ): I have watched but always while doing other things; if something interesting pops up on my screen or a favorite character/actor I stop and watch for a few minutes. The only story that I am enjoying is the romance between Ava and Griffin – it makes me think of Carjack! (; That was a good observation robbalto has made about the three characters in the Jason/Sam/Drew story being quiet – I hadn’t thought about it before.
My two favorite scenes in 2017 both involved daughters confronting their mothers about their addictive insane behaviors regarding their ex-husbands – Josslyn confronting Carly about Sonny and Kristina and Molly confronting Alexis about Julian. yet the writers persist in keeping the insanity going instead of finding new better mates for these women. Especially Alexis, who is supposed to be strong and independent, it just makes her weak and stupid.
It would be nice to see Tamara Braun’s character interacting with other doctors and nurses more often.December 31, 2017 at 3:13 pm #1202452521
General Hospital Wish List: 2018 Edition
1. The Hardy legacy is revisited when Tom Jr. joins the staff as a young doctor. He hits Port Charles with a wife and two sons (in preparation for continuing the Hardy legacy). Tom Hardy also returns, portrayed once again by Matt Ashford.
2. The Hubbards from Pine Valley relocate to Port Charles. Angie works at GH, while Jesse joins the police force. Frankie Hubbard also joins the GH staff.
3. Robert Scott Wilson joins the cast as Dr. Ben Quartermaine, the son of Jimmy Lee.
4. Drew, with Monica’s encouragement, takes the Quartermaine name. After his breakup with Sam, he moves into the Q mansion. Free of the Jason memories, he develops an outgoing personality.
5. Oscar moves in to the mansion with Drew. He takes the Quartermaine name.
6. Michael refers to himself once again as Michael Quartermaine.
7. Jason takes back his Quartermaine name and moves back to the mansion. Much to Monica’s dismay, he begins dating Carly.
As you can see from my list, the Quartermaines are my priority. But it would help if these characters actually went by the actual last name of Quartermaine.January 1, 2018 at 6:20 am #1202452742
^great ideas! I nominate you as the new headwriter of General Hospital! (; I would add: Alexis dumps Julian once and for all and once again becomes the strong independent woman I used to love! (:January 2, 2018 at 4:27 am #1202453390
Best and Worst of GH in 2017:
Best Storyline: Spencer’s feud with Valentin Cassadine had the kid getting kidnapped, trying to hire a lawyer to get back his home, and Nicholas Bechtel acting his little heart out! (:
Ava’s burns and falling for Griffin (:
Worst Storyline: the return of Jason Morgan ): What a bore! A possible return of ‘The Sonny and Jason Show’ is completely unappealing.
Favorite Scenes: Josslyn confronting Carly about her addictive behavior towards Sonny, and Kristina and Molly confronting Alexis about her addictive (insane) behavior towards Julian.
Sam kicking Sonny down into that pit he was in for days on end (: (Too bad he got out!)
Sad to see her go: Jane Elliot’s Tracy Quartermaine is one of my all-time favorite soap characters. She has retired and good for her but it means less Q’s on the show ): They are pretty much all gone now ): Her exit story wasn’t very good but she was wonderful nevertheless.
Best Younger Actresses on daytime: GH didn’t get all that many acting citations in my ‘dream ballot’ but 4 actresses made it (Lexi Ainsworth, Hayley Erin, Chloe Lanier, Eden McCoy) and they also have the wonderful Haley Pullos (underused, sadly).
Worst Exit: Kristina and Parker were dumped very suddenly and rudely ): They could come back and I hope they do.
Dumb Storylines: so many, but ‘Ask Mr. Manners’ didn’t work for me.
Where are they?: Lucas and Brad have been disappeared ): I want them back!
No Chemistry: Sam and Jason (now Drew). Kelly Monaco and Billy J Miller simply don’t have “it”.
Best Use of Veterans: it was nice to see Monica, Laura, Bobbie, Scotty, Tracy, etc. with screen time this year.
Best Couple: Ava and Griffin were my personal favorite couple on the show – shades of “Carjack”! (;
Worst Couple: Julian and Alexis. Dear Alexis: grow a brain and become the fierce independent smart woman you have been in the past!
Best Villain/Villainess: Nelle, but it’s interesting: I don’t actually see her as a villainess and rather like her!
Best Guest Return: Spencer. I just adore Nicholas Bechtel and he delivered the goods!
Wish for more screen time: Vinessa Antoine’s Jordan. I wish she would be moved from supporting to lead on this show.
Oddest ending: the disappearance of Hayden Barnes ):
I will add more later…January 2, 2018 at 2:19 pm #1202453900
I’ve been trying to remember who the guest/limited performers have been from 2017. I remember that Trent Dawson did one, Constance Towers, did Anthony Geary do a “blink and you missed it” guest stint to accommodate Jane Elliot’s exit? Although I consider Nicholas Bechtel and Brooklyn Rae Silzer younger actors they also had limited time, Kimberly McCullough… who else?
James dePaiva (ex-Max OLTL) as Dr. Bensch
Jessica Tuck (ex-Megan OLTL) as Cassandra
Hillary B. Smith as Nora Buchanan OLTL
Ivy Natalia as Samira from Tracy’s awful exit story
Tonja Walker (ex Alex Olanov OLTL) as Olivia Jerome
Jennifer Bassey (ex Marion Colby AMC) as Quinn DanversJanuary 2, 2018 at 4:35 pm #1202453989
My impulse is to categorize Nicolas Bechtel as a Young Actor because he had a stay of significant length and an actual story. Brooklyn Rae Silzer seems more like a Limited Run because she did not have much screen time. I did not watch GH much in 2017, so I will defer to you, Freeman.January 17, 2018 at 5:53 am #1202469153
Y’all, today is the very special Maura West centric episode. Probably her Emmy reel for next year.January 17, 2018 at 6:02 am #1202469156
So disappointed I will be missing this episode due to having a doctor’s appointment ): does anyone know if there is anywhere online I can watch the episode for free in a day or two or whenever? J’adore Maura!!!! (:January 17, 2018 at 9:06 am #1202469302
Last I knew, ABC.com, or at least the ABC app, had episodes of GH for free within a day or so of them airing. Hulu also offers them, technically next-day but usually by around 8 PM the day of, but I think that now requires a subscription service for any level and platform of viewership?
