I’ve been enjoying the show for the most part as well. I was getting a little tired of Kim’s grieving, not because it isn’t interesting what she’s doing or because Tamara Braun isn’t doing a wonderful job with the material, but just because I’m not invested in the character all that much, and so this is the kind of thing I’d prefer to see a more established character doing. (That’s why something like getting two episodes of Bobbie talking about having diabetes kind of works, because it’s a deeply rooted character.) That said, Kim calling Shiloh for help was surprising, and it really feels like the show is giving literally everyone a reason to want that jackass dead. It seems like even his lawyer finds him pretty insufferable.
Almost everything happening in the Wiley-centric story is compelling, though the one thing that is driving me kind of crazy is that these people are astoundingly bad at being secretive. If everyone insists on talking about their concerns that Shiloh will learn that he’s Wiley’s father (which he isn’t even), why are they constantly doing it at Charlie’s, the hospital, and the park rather than Brad and Lucas’s place, Alexis’s house, or Sonny and Carly’s house? Also, it feels so very typical of Alexis to be spending, like, HOURS ranting against Julian for messing with the adoption records and preaching following process and not doing anything illegal, even though she acted potentially unethically in telling Carly and Sonny about what was going on, not to mention that these two are well more likely to just murder Shiloh than mess with records. It feels so hypocritical, and is at once in service to her need to overly involve herself with Julian and her concern that riling up Shiloh could end up causing blowback for her because of Kristina’s pledge (an ethical conflict she hasn’t bothered disclosing to her clients Brad and Lucas). But I’m enjoying it.
In my viewing of the show, that judge (Walters is it? or Warren?) is always more interested in asserting his own control over things than following the nuances of the law, and Willow’s fate was sealed essentially when she was late for court. The scenes with her trying to leave the classroom and literally no one taking it seriously that she said she had to be somewhere were giving me so much anxiety. As much as I wanted her to just leave, of course I get why she couldn’t. I feel like Diane could have appealed the court’s decision with basically any other judge and gotten the order reversed, until Willow admitted she had Shiloh’s baby. Even so, Alexis is right that they could likely stall Shiloh for years in trying to find his way to Wiley, so it seems like her suggestion that they just admit that Wiley is Shiloh’s son isn’t the way to go? Sam made it sound like Shiloh’s empire, at least in Port Charles, is starting to crumble around him, so who knows how much energy he actually would devote to this search.
All of the stuff with Dev is fun so far. I like him and Joss and their antagonistic chemistry. I also like how Cameron just lit up at hearing how Dev took Joss’s phone right out of her pocket without her knowing. It was also a good touch saying that Dev needs to pretend to be American so he can stop doing the accent. They came up with this in a couple of episodes, but the X-Men movies couldn’t figure out now not to have Alexandra Shipp or Halle Berry doing a fake accent in movie after movie. Anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing more of that and how Dev integrates overall. It would be cool if they used this to give Olivia some story by having her and Ned ultimately take in Dev and take care of him.
I’m less interested in Jordan’s hospital bills and Curtis being a double agent by working for and against Jax at the same time, but it’s fine.July 2, 2019 at 4:00 pm #1202959951
I am really missing Haley Pullos and Tequan Richmond – the new actor playing T.J. lacks charisma imo, some actors have it and other’s simply don’t. I assume Haley is in college?
I do wish that Robin and Patrick would return. Perhaps she could have a medical crisis and choose to return to Port Charles?
While I am wishing: please bring back Heather! I need my Robin Mattson fix! (:
The show today was good but not great.July 3, 2019 at 2:05 am #1202960510
I’d love to have the Drakes back too, even if Robin is just recurring. Patrick makes a solid main character who works at the hospital and a great leading man. Plus it means we can have more of Emma.July 3, 2019 at 10:00 am #1202960929
I wonder how much GH could realistically get Kim McCullough to be on screen? While I wouldn’t want to see the show come up with yet another torturous reason for Patrick and Robin not to be together, I’d be cool with something like Patrick coming back to Port Charles while Robin gets an opportunity she can’t pass up somewhere relatively nearby, so she, Patrick and Emma all still live together as a family, but Robin is barely seen because she works far out of town. I also wish the show would use Haley Pullos more. She’s easily my favorite of Alexis’s daughters. I agree that the new actor playing TJ doesn’t give the role the charisma that Tequan Richmond did. Maybe he’d excel in a different way, but he also has basically nothing to do.July 3, 2019 at 10:19 am #1202960950
I know that usually happy couples equals boring on soaps, but on The Doctors, which I watch daily (a soap that was on from 1963-82; I am watching 1978 episodes) four of the main characters are happy couples who still are leads on the show. They could have other conflicts. Patrick could have problems with his addiction, Robin could have problems with her illness, they could have problems with their daughter to deal with as a couple. I just miss them and I don’t think Jason Thompson is good at all as Billy Abbott – I know many don’t agree with this assessment but he just isn’t very interesting in that role.
Looks like Brad is going to tell someone the truth? I love Brad. I know that he will be in the doghouse but I hope it’s not a permanent break – I want Lucas and Brad to stay together in the long run. Parry Shen has been great throughout this storyline!July 3, 2019 at 10:35 am #1202960979
My understanding is that a lot of the directing gigs Kimberly McCullough is getting are for tv shows that film in certain periods of the year (The Conners and Always Sunny). So she could be available for stuff like Nurse’s Ball and major holidays and stuff. At the moment she’s still pretty regularly recurring and the show has always been good at accommodating that.July 3, 2019 at 10:37 am #1202960988
Also if they had to they could always say she’s off teaching a seminar at some NY med school or has some major research project she’s working on.July 3, 2019 at 10:47 am #1202961003
Also side note and just because we keep joking about it but when Chase said he was with Michael the night Jason broke out of jail, did that read to anyone else like he was saying he was “with” Michael? Like biblically?July 4, 2019 at 6:41 pm #1202962696
Today’s episode was the repeat that had the memorable scenes of Ryan and Ava on the bridge and Jason and Laura showing up… but I don’t think this would make a good submission for Daytime Emmy consideration – there were too many filler scenes and all that nonsense with Sonny in Turkey just plain did not work at all… Interesting to see Nina and realizing how much the Sasha reveal won’t have the same impact without Michelle Stafford in the role (but I am thrilled that she is back as Phyllis on Y&R!)July 8, 2019 at 9:31 am #1202966027
LOL, I had the same feeling about Chase claiming he was with Michael the night before when Jason broke out of jail! Do we even know why Michael came to the police station (other than to be spotted by Billy)? Was he just stopping by the say hi? Bringing Chase breakfast? The fanfic is basically writing itself at this point.
It does sound very doable to have Kim McCullough on enough that she, Patrick and Emma could be back in Port Charles, which would be great. And I agree that there are plenty of stories that could be written about them (or couples in general) without breaking them up. I also agree that Jason Thompson is not a great fit as Billy Abbott. Billy Miller should be back playing that part, and Thompson should be back on GH as Patrick. And GH should maybe just write Nina out? Cynthia Watros’s Nina is doing nothing for me so far. She’s fine with Valentin, but the chemistry Michelle Stafford had with Ingo Rademacher, Donnell Turner, Kirsten Storms, and even the lovely young lady who plays Sasha (whose name I can’t recall) is sorely missed. I feel a hesitancy in what Watros is doing that doesn’t work with the character. Maybe this will work itself out in time, but for me, that character is back to feeling like a waste of space.
I know it had some exciting Ryan stuff in it, but I kind of can’t believe the network re-aired one of those Sonny-in-Turkey episodes. I do love Dev, though. He’s fitting in well with Joss, Cam and Trina.July 8, 2019 at 11:40 am #1202966249
I was really enjoying today’s episode when we got interrupted with “breaking news” – the Kevin Spacey trial – ): I have the feeling the next few days will be rough as the local news channels are obsessed with the Spacey trial. I prefer to watch my soaps!
I am enjoying Michelle Stafford so much on Y&R but I really wish they had just wrapped up the Sasha is not your daughter story before she left and had Nina leave town. Cynthia Watros is just not right for the role.July 8, 2019 at 7:55 pm #1202966897
Yeah the character of Nina should have just left; however Hayden’s back! YASSSS!!!!July 9, 2019 at 3:36 am #1202967338
So I take it Liesl got pushed overboard? I saw the promo and thought it was her. I am worried they intend to kill her off because she knows the secret that “Wiley” is really Nelle and Michael’s baby. I sure hope not, she’s a really enjoyable occasional character who shakes things up in Port Charles from time to time! (:
Looks like the Kevin Spacey trial is postponed until July 31st? So my soaps will get pre-empted once it resumes ): The two worst words to a soap lover: “breaking news”! (;July 9, 2019 at 10:01 am #1202967905
I always watch GH on Hulu, which is incredibly convenient. There’s never an interruption for breaking news and no commercials to watch or fast-forward through, and the episode arrives same day. I wish DAYS had that kind of deal somewhere.
This party for Elizabeth and Franco was really nice. It was awesome that Hayden showed up at the end of the episode! When I saw the promo, I assumed it would take well into the week for that to happen, but she’s back, and already Liesl’s been pushed (or possibly fallen, I guess?) overboard. Also, the moment when Cam got Jake and Aiden to help perform a song for Elizabeth and Franco was very sweet, and I got all teary when Cam called Franco dad. Who knew I cared about Franco and Elizabeth?! It’s cool to see so many of the hospital folks together at another social event besides the Nurses’ Ball, and it was nice to see Felix.
And is Kim going to rape Drew to try to get pregnant? Or somehow harvest his sperm?July 9, 2019 at 11:32 am #1202968020
I am glad that Julian caught Kim and she didn’t go through with her gross plan. But poor Drew ):
Liesl was pushed! Hayden? Valentin? Brad? or someone else? I say: Valentin, and I hope he gets caught and leaves the show forever! (;
O.K., so I am intrigued by Jax’s connection to Hayden!
I am still not liking Cynthia Watros but maybe in time…
