I feel the same way about Jacqueline MacInnes Wood as I do about Kelly Monaco on GH. They get SO many episodes, but they never transcend the material they are given. They do not have the acting ability (in my opinion) to be considered “lead actresses.” Lead actresses, to me, are more along the lines of Gina Tognoni, Mary Beth Evans, Maura West, etc. They play a LAYERED character. I don’t think Steffy is very layered at all, JMW sort of phones it in.
I think B&B is seriously lacking when it comes to lead actresses (which is absurd, they have Heather Tom & KK Lang, they need to give them the material they deserve). And I think that is a MAJOR reason why the show has been so lackluster lately.August 19, 2018 at 4:53 pm #1202612473
The scenes with Brooke and Taylor revisiting their conflicted history is exactly the type of soap storytelling that I usually like. Unfortunately, I am not enjoying anything involving Hope, Liam, and Steffy’s story. When I watch B&B, I find myself longing to see Zoe, Alex, Emma, Wyatt, Sally, anyone that will take the story away from that central triangle. I will say, however, that I enjoy the brotherly chemistry between Darin Brooks and Scott Clifton.
Freeman, in terms of leads, here are my thoughts:
Lead Actor: Thorsten Kaye, Don Diamont, Scott Clifton, John McCook
Lead Actress: Jacqueline MacInnes Wood, Katherine Kelly Lang, Annika Noelle, Heather Tom
Of course, you are right — essentially, there have only been the three leads. But I would also consider factors such as the character’s history with the show rather than just the total amount of air time.
Soapfan88, I get what you are saying, but there is no denying that JMW is a lead this year. As much as I would love to base category placement on my personal preferences, I think we have to stick with more objective guidelines. Now, in terms of how we vote, that’s another story!August 29, 2018 at 6:28 pm #1202619717
Since the beginning of the year, I have complained about the excessive time given to the Hope/Liam/Steffy triangle. While I did not enjoy the story, it was perhaps better than the current custody dispute between Bill and Katie. This new story feels inauthentic and, worst of all, is incredibly boring. Thorne is an absolute jerk. He is overstepping big time with his involvement. He’s actually starting to make Bill look good, a seemingly impossible feat. B&B needs a shot of originality. The show was on a creative high in 2015 to early 2017, but has regressed dramatically. The cake fight between Brooke and Taylor was fun, but not amusing enough to overlook the overall boring state of the show.September 10, 2018 at 5:44 pm #1202629058
I did catch some bits of the cake fight between Brooke and Taylor, which was fun but also kind of funny that Taylor hasn’t been to Steffy’s last few weddings but was back in town in time to fight with Brooke at Hope’s wedding. I have no idea what’s happening storywise, so maybe there’s a good reason, but it made me laugh.September 15, 2018 at 6:04 am #1202632482
I simply have stopped watching this show. If I hear that they have stopped obsessing about Liam and Bill and moved the show in other directions I might consider watching again. From what I read about it online I am not missing much. I am so sick of Bill! Go away! Liam is way too wishy-washy for me. I wish they would bring back Felicia and I miss Quinn, who is hardly on any more.October 30, 2018 at 3:32 am #1202664857
PopTV has stopped airing episodes of B&B and is now only airing episodes of Y&R (twice a day). I wonder why this has happened? Remember when they aired Days as well? I watched just a few minutes of B&B because I saw that Quinn was going to be on the show but it didn’t add up to anything worth watching. I find the show unrelentingly dull lately every time I do tune in…October 30, 2018 at 9:23 am #1202665013
It took me a while to realize that PopTV wasn’t airing B&B anymore, but eventually I noticed I wasn’t getting any new episodes, as that’s where I’d been recording them. I don’t know why they did away with those, but I haven’t yet bothered to reset my DVR to record from CBS. The show has been talking about finally not being Steffy/Liam/Hope focused lately, but I’m still not interested.November 14, 2018 at 9:19 am #1202674931
One of the biggest reasons I have stopped watching is that whenever I read blurbs for that day’s episode it’s always “Bill wins again, Bill is still the center of the universe and always wins” which bores me. I have only watched when I see that Quinn will have something to do but they have her in a silly feud with Pam that doesn’t mean anything to me. Soaps can turn on a dime and suddenly become interesting very quickly so I am hoping I will want to watch the show again in the future but for now I am bored bored bored with it….November 29, 2018 at 8:39 am #1202685004
I must admit I haven’t been watching – who have been the guest performers on B&B this year? I know Hunter Tylo has returned – for a guest stint or a more regular gig? I see the ads for the show but I still don’t feel intrigued enough to start watching again. I am watching the other 3 soaps regularly.December 26, 2018 at 5:09 am #1202710194
has anybody at all been watching this show? I haven’t been watching at all since PopTV took it off their schedule at 6;30 p.m. EST. I am always watching Days at 1:30 p.m. EST. (I don’t have the technology to record it).
I read the story capsules and find myself not really wanting to watch the show.
Why are the ratings so upside down? The two worst shows are the higher rated ones and the two best shows are the lower rated ones!January 24, 2019 at 12:14 pm #1202747049
