There’s been speculation that JJ might be the upcoming death, but considering that Casey Moss has been known to be leaving the show for months, his character dying wouldn’t really be surprising in the way I’ve been led to believe this death will be. And with the show having such a hard time maintaining its younger characters, killing one of them for no reason (I guess it wouldn’t necessarily be no reason) seems silly. If they want to give Jennifer some good material, maybe let her remember that it was Gina who pushed her over the balcony before people tell her that Hope is really Gina.

Sounds like Galen Gering is leaving the show, just read that he posted about being back to work, but only to wrap up, he’ll be leaving in September.

I’ve seen that also. While I don’t mind having Rafe around, I’ve become rather indifferent to him as a character overall, and the show has so many characters. Overcrowding seems to be a problem with most of the soaps right now, so it’s hard to see Galen going to another show unless it’s as a recast for an existing character. But I guess it’s also possible that, since word of this has gotten out and some fans seem bothered by it, they’ll change their minds and just keep Rafe around on the backburner.

I feel like I cannot say enough how dumb the Gina/Stevano story is. Yesterday’s episode was interrupted by news coverage after the first 20 minutes, and it was almost a relief.

Today’s episode was for me one of the worst episodes of Days in a very long time ): I am trying to put my finger on why I feel this way. Total annoyance with the Stefano and Gina storyline is my #1 reason, along with illogical story-telling.

I wish they would concentrate on the Will/Maggie storyline, and the who killed Jordan? story – stay away from all this Stefano/Gina yuck and ban all Brady/Kristen scenes please.

I watched the last three episodes in a row yesterday, and I actually rather enjoyed them. I still stand by everything I’ve said about the Stevano/Gina story and how so much of it doesn’t make sense, but I feel like it’s a getting into a campier place that’s at least more fun (maybe they think this is where they’ve been all along?), and people are figuring out/finding out that these two are not Hope and Steve, so the story can’t just keep going as is. As much as I was tired of watching this play out, I really want Hope back, which can’t happen if they don’t wrap this story up. The redeeming things about the last few episodes with this story have been: 1. The twist with Marlena being Hattie was well done. It wasn’t a total shock, but they played it really well. Deidre Hall did an incredible job being just Hattie enough for those few episodes before Hattie totally exposes herself. 2. Kate is redeeming herself somewhat by rescuing Marlena and starting to tell people the truth about Stefano and Gina. 3. Abigail and Chad getting involved and taking no time to figure out what’s going on is pretty satisfying. I also think it’s pretty funny that John, Steve, etc. act like such super sleuths, but Marlena and Kate showed up in Prague, started “following some leads,” and almost immediately found John and Gina.

I’m glad they’ve also at least started going down some other road in terms of who killed Jordan by now starting to look for David’s father. Also, Will and Ben’s goodbye at the prison was really sweet. Even Clyde kind of redeemed himself a little by setting it up for Ben to escape while he covers for him. I’m looking forward to seeing that story pick up more, though I assume that we’ll have to do a hard pivot to Eli/Gabi/Lani this week, since the wedding is, in theory, Friday.

I was so bored by today’s episode I stopped watching after the first twenty minutes ): I am simply not enjoying all this Stefano/Gina stuff at all. Can they please get back to Will/Maggie and the Jordan murder mystery?

I thought the Stevano/Kayla scenes could be interesting, that Steve might start to come through if they were together in close quarters. But that wasn’t the case at all. The show didn’t bother to do anything particularly worth watching in those scenes, just more of ‘Steve’ being a jerk to Kayla and not properly remembering the details of their life together, which we’ve already seen. Even with the bar set so low, I found those scenes disappointing. I’m glad at least that John and Marlena are safely reunited, no one is currently trapped in a lair or a dungeon, and Gina is being dragged back to Salem to hopefully be turned back into Hope. It’s also good that Jennifer finally remembered that Gina is the one who pushed her off the balcony. Do you think she remembers how Rolf turned Hope into Gina or has any idea how to undo it?

have others been reporting the spam that has been showing up on this thread?

I enjoyed Ben and Ciara today, and Justin and Victor, but I really hate Brady and Kristen scenes – they have made me truly dislike Brady completely.

Also, have you seen the news that Freddie and Chandler were permanently let go?

These Kayla/Stevano scenes are killing me. Literally everyone in Salem should have been told by now that Steve is actually Stefano, and the fact that Kayla is missing should have people on high alert. I also love that the show didn’t even bother having Julie’s pacemaker replaced on a day that wasn’t Eli and Gabi’s wedding day.

As I get more frustrated with the writing on the show, I was thinking yesterday how much I miss the Tomlin/Whitesell era. What a great time that was. The writers wrote the characters like they were people they at least thought about as people instead of just constructs to move around in plots, and the stories made logistical sense. I didn’t love absolutely everything during that time — I still want to get in the fetal position and cry when I think of EJ cheating on Sami with Abigail — but by and large, it was great in a way that we haven’t really seen since then.

I really enjoyed the romantic flashback scenes between Will and Sonny (: They are my favorite couple on the show by far.

I can’t say I was all that impressed with the scenes at the wedding though. There are two reasons this story bothers me: I dislike sci-fi stories on daytime dramas; and I dislike the way they have made it a bad decision to let Gabi out of jail for killing Nick. Julie has been proven right. I found the scenes to lack any real tension or conflict, at least that is how I felt about it.

The Will and Sonny scenes were delightful. It was nice to see those, and it felt like such a joke when Evan walked in.

The wedding had some issues for me. For starters, I know these reveals are supposed to be dragged out, but the first half of the episode, with Lani just dancing around her point, was ridiculous. It just seemed like grandstanding to get people as annoyed as possible before the reveal. People are yelling at her and calling her names, and JJ wasn’t saying anything for quite a while, which I found odd. It would have made more sense to having Kristen then defending her, or Abigail and Chad loudly saying that they want to hear what Lani has to say. The scenes didn’t use the cast that was there very well, and also totally skimped out on who was at the wedding. Gabi has one friend who isn’t in jail — Sonny — and they couldn’t let him come to the wedding? Evan’s Valentine’s Day gift to him should have been to watch Arianna so Sonny could attend. (Also, I laughed out loud when Evan said he dropped David off at a play date. It’s like 9 pm right now.) Doug couldn’t come to the wedding because he’s off dealing with Hope apparently. Not that I am asking for have to see more of the Princess Gina story, but shouldn’t we see the confrontation between Doug and Gina that seems to be happening right now? They should have just let Doug come to the wedding. And then of course there’s Kristen and Brady deciding to stay in and have sex, when having Kristen at the wedding would have added a great element of tension for the others and also felt right, since she’s been Lani’s biggest supporter through this time. It also would have been nice to see Kristen and interacting with Jennifer (who frankly should also be at the wedding, with dialogue about her wedding to Jack there before the time jump and how Gina pushed her over the balcony – it basically writes itself). I don’t know. It was entertaining, and I’m thrilled Gabi is getting busted finally, but it certainly could have been better. I will say, I don’t really think of the pacemaker tracker app as sci-fi. It’s tech-based, but very plausible and, as Camila Banus explained on the Soap Opera Digest podcast, can actually happen in real life. I also feel like they’ve done a good enough job with Gabi’s motives for turning to her darker side — getting sent to prison for Abigail’s crimes and then losing Stefan — that it still seems like Julie wasn’t right about Gabi, at least not initially. She just made it so easy for Gabi to be cruel to her by constantly treating Gabi like a horrible person. And it also must be said that, despite how awful and psychotic Gabi’s schemes have been, she really did save Julie’s life by giving her Stefan’s heart.

Side note: It’s great to see Valerie! She looks fantastic.

Yesterday’s episode was a much better comeuppance episode for Gabi. Although it was obvious what Julie was doing, it was still fun to watch.
The tribute to the characters Bill Horton and Doug Williams was wonderful with great flashbacks. Doug as a scoundrel must have been fun to watch. The antihero tradition sure goes way back. The only odd thing was to have Julie immersed in a different storyline when they decided to do this tribute.

Are they ever going to make Gabi sympathetic again? She tried to kill Julie in public. She manipulated Eli. Blackmailed Lani. And the spoilers for what she’s going to do to get out of jail make her pure evil…beyond redemption.

And second, why don’t Will and Sonny take the child away from her? They look like stooges.
