DAYS is planning to return to production on September 1, but fan favorite Kristian Alfonso, who joined the show as Hope Williams Brady in 1983, will not be coming back with it. The actress announced on Deadline.com that she is done at the NBC soap she’s called home for 37 years — and has already filmed her last episode. “It is now time for me to write my next chapter,” she told the site. “I will not be returning to Days when it resumes production in September. I’ve already filmed my last episode several months ago.” She addressed the fans, noting, “I cannot thank you enough for your generosity, love and support. I could not have done it without YOU!!!”July 6, 2020 at 3:54 pm #1203571022
I read awhile back that Galen Gering is leaving and I am wondering if Rafe and Hope will leave together? They have been showing them getting closer recently.
I suspect huge budget cuts is factoring in as to why so many people are leaving all at the same time. Unfortunately for me they are cutting the wrong characters/actors and keeping too many of the ones I do not care for at all.July 6, 2020 at 9:10 pm #1203571433
Man, I really hope that Rafe and Hope don’t leave together. That would be almost as bad as when Carrie and Mike left town together. Let Hope take the spy route out of town, where she finds a mysterious clue implying that Bo is secretly alive or something and she goes off in search of that.
I agree, Freeman, that these aren’t the best choices for getting rid of people.July 7, 2020 at 12:58 pm #1203572454
Is the future really Ben and CiaraJuly 8, 2020 at 9:32 pm #1203577333
I’m surprised how much I’ve enjoyed the episodes leading up to Kayla and Justin’s wedding. As I’ve said in the citations thread, I thought today’s episode was really well done. I loved that every scene was about Kayla and Steve eventually getting back together.
Other highlights for me in the last few episodes included Victor advocating to Sarah on Xander’s behalf, Will’s giddy reaction to getting ordained online to be Kayla and Justin’s officiant, and Kate getting Abe’s ceremony hundreds of thousands of views via the Kardashians.July 10, 2020 at 7:00 pm #1203580679
It looks like Stefan and Jake are going to turn out to be twins.
I loved the scenes between Kate and Vivian. I hope Vivian and Victor share some scenes before Louise’s departure.July 12, 2020 at 9:40 pm #1203583241
The twins option is probably the best to take, especially if the rumors about Camila’s departure and the show’s intention to throw Jake back in with Abigail and Chad.
The Vivian/Kate scenes were fun, and I’m hoping for some Vivian/Victor scenes as well. One of the things Louise always shows is that Vivian doesn’t just hate Kate, but she’s exasperated by her very presence. Which is perfect because, as much as I love Kate, she really is exasperating.July 14, 2020 at 11:30 am #1203585410
Sami showing up at the end was great, looking forward to tomorrow when I assume she will find out that Allie is pregnant! I hope Sami’s visit will be much longer this time around???
Will we ever get a full wedding ever again on soaps? So many Salemites ought to have been there who weren’t there. How many years in all has the on-again/off-again relationship of Eric and Nicole endured?July 15, 2020 at 7:46 am #1203586378
I was so thrilled to see Sami at the end of the episode! There were some things about the wedding that were nice. Eric looked super handsome, and I liked Nicole’s understated almost casual look given the venue and the size of the event. I didn’t love that it was at the pub, but the space turned out to be pretty good for it. One of the downsides to four weddings in a month is that none of them have been even remotely well attended and that they’re finding increasingly odder places to hold them. I don’t know where Ben and Ciara’s wedding is supposed to be, but that seems like it’ll be the big one. The only people I was surprised weren’t at the wedding were (from Salem) were Will and Sonny. Eric’s family was otherwise covered, and I certainly didn’t expect Brandon to make an appearance. (Kayla would have been expected to be on her honeymoon I think.) I suppose by now they’ve realized Brady is gone? I would have expected him to be the best man at this wedding. I didn’t hear him mentioned, by maybe I missed something.
I hope someone already told Sami that Allie is pregnant, but this will be fun either way. Even though I like Nicole and I can appreciate her wanting to support Allie, it feels pretty over the line for Nicole to be involved to the degree that she is, arguing with Lucas that Allie’s pregnancy is none of Sami’s business, for example, after the whole baby switch drama. If you’ve taken someone’s child one, maybe don’t insert yourself as a mother figure for another one later on. I think that’s part of why Rafe has bugged me so much at times. Even though he was being a father to a child he thought was EJ’s in his first storyline, he was still eager to parent or pretend to parent any of his other kids down the line, like when Nicole was pregnant by him the second time and, out of honestly just spite, decided EJ didn’t deserve to be a father to the baby and Rafe pretended to be the dad.
Anyway, hooray for Sami! Also, not sure if I said this the other day, but Louise Sorel is looking wonderful these day.July 15, 2020 at 12:57 pm #1203586845
I wasn’t expecting a cat fight between Sami and Nicole. It was fun! Hurricane Sami delivered today!
I am enjoying Lucas and Bonnie’s scenes. Anything that allows us to see the divine Judi Evans is all right with me!
The twin story makes me sad for Gabi ): She was so certain it was Stefan! Still could be, of course, this is a soap but more likely we now have Jake DiMera who will have a stake in DiMera enterprises.
Maybe Lindsay Arnold will grow on me but so far she’s been a dud. Of course I felt this way about Hayley Erin and Olivia Rose Keegan for their first year or two and both became excellent actresses and won Emmys too.
At least the show isn’t being pre-empted on an almost daily basis anymore!July 15, 2020 at 6:33 pm #1203587181
I know we have to realize we will never get the splashy soap weddings of the past, but it still frustrates me when they can’t even bring the character’s whole families to attend. It was awful for Hope and Will (and Sonny) not to be there. Will’s absence was especially glaring. It would have been great for him to try to calm his mom down. Not sure if Brady’s out of town chasing after Kristen but he should have been there as well. Anyway…July 16, 2020 at 8:21 am #1203587663
Yeah, being that Brady is Nicole’s only friend, I’m surprised they didn’t even mention him. (Though he did leave with Kristen, so I wasn’t expecting him.) And I agree, the soaps should make more of an effort with their weddings. Doing a wedding a week totally removes any chance that all the people who should attend a wedding will actually be there. I don’t think anyone’s gone to two weddings in a row yet this month, and maybe that’s a filming thing, and maybe that’s why neither Will nor Hope could be at this wedding, as they’ll definitely both be at Ben and Ciara’s. Though Marlena should be there as well, so I guess we’ll see.
I’m liking Lindsay Arnold so far. I think she’s playing the character well, and she matches well with Alison Sweeney, who was great in her first full episode back. What bugs me is the way everyone’s treating Sami. Imagine showing to find out that not only did your twin brother leave you out of his wedding plans, but that the primary reason is that your whole family conspired to keep you from finding out your daughter is pregnant, and, on the advice of your rival who once stole your baby, who is the person marrying your brother, she’s giving the baby up for adoption. How did they expect her to react? She’s totally justified. It’s not like she didn’t have a good reason for trying to find Allie in the first place. Then I love how everyone was complaining that this was supposed to be a celebration, when they were perfectly free to celebrate if they’d just been willing to let Sami have a conversation with her daughter without watching it like a fight was about to go down on the playground. I look forward to Sami continuing to let these people have it in the coming days and weeks. The funniest part of the episode was Abe, John and Roman getting out of that wedding like the building was on fire when Sami found out Allie was pregnant.
The Bonnie/Lucas scenes were great, and the reveal that Jake is Stefan’s twin was really good as well. Jake as Stefan’s twin is the best option for this situation. We get Brandon back without the baggage of all the stuff Stefan did, and it gives the opportunity for Jake and Gabi to potentially build a new relationship. Sure, it’s maybe a little weird for Gabi to get with her dead husband’s twin brother, but the writers have already made Abigail have sex with three of the DiMera brothers, so Gabi getting a third under her belt doesn’t seem like too much.
This was actually a very strong episode overall, despite some glaring omissions in wedding guests.July 21, 2020 at 8:28 am #1203594311
I’m loving having Sami back, though she is really annihilating some people. On Friday alone, she made both Rafe and Ben look like she’d drowned their puppies. I was so glad Ciara came by to ask Rafe to walk her down the aisle after Sami pointedly told him that he is NOT family.
Yesterday’s episode was great. The Ben/Marlena scenes were really good, and all the stuff with Vivian was great. The mention of Dr. Wu was a great callback, and a reminder that Dr. Rolfe is not even this show’s first rich people mad scientist. The Gabi/Jake scenes were very good as well.
The preview for this week looks so exciting. I’m thrilled that we’re finally getting another wedding in a church with a bunch of people and some proper fanfare. I didn’t realize until listening to last week’s Soap Opera Digest podcast that these four weddings and a funeral (oh, I guess Vivian’s little wake yesterday was the funeral?) in July, and particularly Ciara and Ben’s wedding with it’s cliffhanger ending was supposed to lead up to the show’s two-week break for the Olympics. Since the Olympics are postponed, we’ll apparently get a big cliffhanger but then a pretty quick resolution.
