I was also thinking he might have an identical twin. I was hoping that we’d hear more specifics about the DNA test before leaping to that conclusion though. That’s usually where the show has to tip their hand on this sort of thing. I thought Kayla had previously said she was running a test to determine whether Tripp and Allie’s baby were related, which, depending on the specificity of the test, could implicate not just Tripp but any of his male biological relatives — Steve, Sonny, Jack, JJ, Ava’s sketchy brother (not saying any of these are legit options and of course Allie and JJ are cousins), and of course another heretofore unmentioned child of Ava’s. The twin theory would lend Allie some credibility in that an identical twin would have been physically indistinguishable from Tripp, but the thought that Tripp identical twin just happened to follow him that night and decided to rape a girl he took home seems particularly absurd. I still kind of prefer the idea that rando Charlie is the real assailant and another child of Ava’s.
But I also don’t like this story at all. It’s imbalanced. I don’t think most of the audience actually believes Tripp raped Allie, so everyone’s just waiting to see how the show undermines the reliability of DNA tests yet again. But also, even without the DNA test, the only person in town who seemed to believe Tripp was Steve. There’s a tone of “people will have to chose sides” or “relationships will be torn asunder” that has not existed around anyone other than Steve. Poor Kayla was getting a lot of guff for reserving judgment until she had more information, but it’s not like she was ever really backing Tripp either.
Yesterday’s episode was completely overtaken by election coverage (not sure why they needed a whole hour to say that they had no more information than before), so I’ll have to catch it on demand later.November 6, 2020 at 8:48 am #1203821143
I wonder if Ron C saw the Law & Order: SVU episode with the identical twins where one of them set up the other (who didn’t know if his existence) as a rapist? This Tripp/Allie story could go in that direction…
anybody know when Sami will be returning to the canvas?
I have been really surprised by the high number of episodes count for Judi Evans. She must have lost her son and been sick during the filming hiatus periods. She’s wonderful of course!
Always makes me happy to see 95 year old Bill Hayes on my screen. I hope if I live that long I will be as vital and sharp as he appears to be!November 6, 2020 at 2:12 pm #1203821526
Maybe Sami’s return won’t be happening as soon as I thought it would. I just saw online today a new cast photo that was released by Entertainment Weekly. Some of the inclusions/exclusions were interesting.
In addition to all the regulars you’d expect, the picture included Rafe, Gabi, Ciara, Bonnie, Gwen, Chloe, Brady, Kristen, Ava, and Charlie, but did not include Sami, Theo or JJ.November 6, 2020 at 8:47 pm #1203821813
I am districted by something regarding McClain. Has she ever worn this much makeup on a show before? Does days really have much more makeup on its actresses than other shows? Why am I just noticing with McClain and not say Davidson who has gone from Y&R to days to Bold to Y&R! Did I just not notice reeves’s makeup? LolNovember 7, 2020 at 4:48 pm #1203822601
For 2020 I am thinking the four leads for Actor and Actress would be (imo):
Camila Banus, Mary Beth Evans, Linsey Godfrey and Deidre Hall – but cases could be made for Kristian Alfonso, Stacey Haiduk, Alison Sweeney and/or Ari Zuker…
Brandon Barash, Billy Flynn, Stephen Nichols, and Robert Scott Wilson… but cases could be made for quite a few others: Drake Hogestyn, Wally Kurth, Eric Martsolf, Chandler Massey, Freddie Smith, and Paul Telfer. Sonny and Will had a great deal of screen time this year.
Thoughts? Early thoughts for Goldies consideration…November 8, 2020 at 8:53 pm #1203823958
I think Kristian Alfonso was definitely a lead this year, even with her missing the last two months of the year. I’d bump either Linsey Godfrey or Mary Beth Evans, probably Godfrey given that she’s currently in no-man’s-land story-wise. I also don’t think either Brandon Barash or Billy Flynn has actually been a lead at any point this year. I’d be more inclined to go with Drake Hogestyn, Paul Telfer, Lamon Archey or even Chandler Massey than either of them.
On another note, I think the show needs to take a break from Brady as a character. Maybe it’s how absurd his relationship with Kristen has become — he seems totally devoted to her and completely unconflicted about every awful and insane thing she’s done in the last few years, including attempting to kill his grandfather. Maybe it’s just how insufferable I find his conversations with Eli where he acts like Eli is the devil for doing his job and trying to get a homicidal lunatic in prison. Maybe it’s that he no longer seems to have any personality beyond being entitled and whiny? I don’t know. It’s like his existence had become largely about trying to run Titan and being a counterbalance to Eric in some way or another, and now that two other Kiriakises are fighting for Titan and Eric is gone, Brady barely exists. It’s hard to even buy him as this loving and devoted father, since his other child lives in California and he never sees him for no real reason.
LOL, I had not noticed Cady McClain’s makeup, but this may be COVID related. At some point, they did have to start doing their own makeup, and TV makeup is its own art form. I do think it’s ridiculous that the show’s anniversary episode was this lead-up to a non-reveal about Jack and Kate — which, so what and also who cares? — heavily featuring a newly-replaced Jennifer who has had all of three episodes to try to fit into this character. It’s unfair to everyone involved, including us, to try to make us feel the depth of some of these relationships that have had no time to develop with McClain in the role.November 9, 2020 at 8:25 am #1203824572
I think Paul Telfer has had enough screen time to bump him up, and Chandler too… but i will go with the majority on placements when the times comes in January.
I can’t stand Brady with Kristen – it is beyond irritating!!!!November 10, 2020 at 7:57 am #1203826694
On an episode level, the writing team did a pretty good job of crafting this unlikely tale of Jack and Kate hooking up while Jennifer was in the coma. It does make sense that Jack would kind of fall apart, between Jennifer being in a coma, Adrienne dying, Steve being MIA, JJ being messed up over Haley’s death, etc. They should have played into the weight of all that a little more, as honestly it kind of seems like Jack was only concerned about Jennifer never waking up. I can also see Kate connecting with Jack on a human level and wanting to be there for him, emotionally. But I still can’t believe Kate would sleep with Jack, who is basically the type of guy she never goes for (neither the hero type nor the powerful, authoritarian pariah, and certainly not too pretty to bother resisting like EJ or Ted Laurent). It also would have just been a thousand times more interesting if Jack thought all this time that he slept with Kate (on account of being so hammered), but in fact she’d left and someone else arrived and he slept with that person, like Billie or maybe Kristen (pre-convent), who would have also been pretty torn up about Jennifer being in the coma, since they were very good friends before the show decided that Lani was the only female friend Kristen ever had. It’s worth remembering that Kate was spending her evenings plotting with Stevano at this point, which is why she was still working at the pub. Making this story more absurd: There has been not so much as a warm glance between Kate and Jack in all the time they’ve been living at the mansion together. And why would Gwen have been lurking around to hear this exchange back when Jack and Jennifer first moved into the mansion? This was of course around the time Gwen would have drugged Abigail, but before she even appeared on screen and well before she had any reason at all to be in the mansion. On top of that, they had Abigail give that speech at the party where she talked about flipping the hourglass because Jack wasn’t in Jennifer’s room that morning, and then the next episode we see a flashback on Jack running in and flipping the hourglass himself. I know production during COVID is tough, but honestly, if you are making up nonsensical stories out of thin air with no buildup the very least you can do is keep the details consistent.November 11, 2020 at 9:24 am #1203829346
Wow, it was pretty shocking and quite out of character to see Jack shouting at Abigail about how the debacle at the party is all her fault. I don’t mind the tension or that Jack wasn’t necessarily apologetic, but the harsh tone and some of the things he was saying were way over the line. It would have made more sense for Jack to blame Gwen and have Abigail come to her defense, if they really felt they needed the angry blowup.November 11, 2020 at 5:19 pm #1203830341
I absolutely hate the rape storyline. It’s a rip-off of the Kit storyline on AMC. The rapist will probably be Charlie (Tripp’s brother?). I’m sure the tale was written to usher Ava back in and no one asked for her return. They’ve tried twice to make this character work. Give it up.
The Jack/Kate story is also a big fat fail.November 12, 2020 at 7:47 am #1203831459
Based on previews, it also looks like Ava is the person with whom Phillip has been plotting to undermine/ruin Titan (kind of shocking they started this story like three months after Brady, as CEO, was trying to tank the company), so I’m guessing she’ll be getting a lot of screen time pretty quickly, which, yeah, no one wanted.
I think Greg Meng’s influence is really missed on the show. It seems like he was the person keeping things going in directions that make sense. He’s been gone a few months, and look where we are.November 18, 2020 at 7:43 am #1203845063
I was very glad about Eli’s response to being confronted by Lani about Kristen being in jail. I cannot even count the ways in which this storyline has felt totally insane, though I think maybe the most ridiculous is the idea that Eli tricked/entrapped Kristen into confessing. I don’t think it’s called entrapment when a police officer is speaking to you after you’ve been arrested for a crime and are out on bail. That’s just a person admitting their own guilt! She was clearly told anything she said could and would be used against her. This is one of the many ways also that the current writing regime has shortchanged Kristen. When Kristen drugged and raped Eric as revenge for Marlena ruining her relationship with Brady, she was meticulous about doing in a way that it wasn’t provable, so people would know she did it, but she couldn’t be convicted for it. This is the total opposite. She’s been beyond careless and outright foolish in this storyline. Anyway, I’m glad Eli didn’t just apologize and beg for forgiveness but instead told Lani how ridiculous she’s being.
Kristen, meanwhile, is entertaining Ava in Statesville. I like the twist of them having been friends (though it makes Kristen acting like Lani is the only friend she’s ever had even more insane), and I hope the association with Ava will eventually restore some order to things. I’m all for character growth and relationships evolving, but I could not write a post long enough to list the reasons why Marlena and Kristen should never be anything more than barely tolerant and coldly civil with one another, at best. These two have been rivals since Kristen was a doe-eyed innocent who couldn’t believe what terrible people Stefano and Peter really were. Marlena having to be the one to go see her and keep her spirits up is beyond ridiculous. Maybe Lani should be spending some time doing that? Or maybe a surprise friendship with someone like Sarah, who would feel a degree of kinship with her because of everything that happened.November 18, 2020 at 9:18 am #1203845320
I so did not enjoy yesterday’s episode and found it extremely annoying. Yes, Eli was the only sane voice – why do they keep on insisting that Kristen’s behavior is defensible? Ugh… I also just didn’t enjoy the pacing of scenes, the writing, and the show just hasn’t been very strong with a few exceptions lately. Always hoping the show will rebound in time.November 18, 2020 at 10:49 pm #1203846981
I also read earlier that the best thing going on the show right now — the hilarious and zany Jan Spears — will be leaving the show and last airing early next week. Sigh.
It really stuns me how many things are misfiring on the show right now. Even a character like Gwen, who I thought was a lot of fun, has gone from a mode where she worked really well — as a messy, slightly unhinged, opportunistic troublemaker — to this more Machiavellian long-term schemer with an axe to grind and a penchant for talking to Stefano’s portrait, which honestly just feels like the writers very lazily slotting her into a niche they return to again and again.November 19, 2020 at 9:38 am #1203847733
What I am enjoying the most right now is Lucas Adams as Tripp. His return has been great imo – he is an incredibly talented actor and even if the story itself doesn’t really work all that well he has me sold on it.
Can’t wait for Sami’s return and now only if Will could return as well (sigh)…
