The Christmas episodes were a mixed bag overall. The division of the families seemed to work when it was the DiMeras and the Kiriakises, but after that it really didn’t hold up all that well. I’m willing to give the show a pass because I’m guessing they couldn’t really pack the scenes for COVID reasons, so I get why they couldn’t have as many people in places as they wanted to. But honestly, if that were the restriction, that should have made all of the episodes be happening simultaneously instead of stringing them together the way they did, because they it could have provided an excuse for why characters weren’t on more or at certain events. The Horton gathering was probably the most disappointing, but I still found it moving. It was also really odd that they even bothered to have Roman hosting an event, since we didn’t see any real gathering and it featured so few people. Overall, though, I’m glad we did get some Christmas episodes, and it was great to see the video chat with Sami. I’m also glad they were able to put together the reading of the Christmas story at the hospital, with what I assume was archive footage from a previous year. Will coming back was great, too, but what the hell? He comes back and mostly has scenes with Allie and Nicole? Then as soon as he and Allie got to Marlena’s place, where they missed the wedding for absolutely no reason?, he disappeared without interacting with anyone there. I’m assuming he must be in other scenes coming up, but still, that was a bummer. It also makes me feel like the character revolving door is a little insane and isn’t particularly well coordinated. Will showing up in Salem for Christmas without Sonny or Arianna right after Gabi has gone for Arizona just seems weird. Maybe Gabi will be back before he leaves.December 28, 2020 at 9:19 am #1203949511
I hope we get more Sami soon. I missed Will entirely due to the Governor choosing 1-2 pm to do his news conferences about covid. Hope I get to see him in upcoming episodes.
Are they thinking of pairing Rafe with Nicole???December 29, 2020 at 8:38 am #1203951385
I was glad yesterday to see that Will was still around and now just casually hanging out with people I guess.
Poor Tripp is just getting attacked and threatened all over town. At this point, when Steve is selling the theory that someone related to Tripp raped Allie, it doesn’t make sense that they’re not running any other tests to confirm or negate that idea. For example, Kayla could run the same test that she ran for Tripp using Steve’s DNA to see if he’s related to the baby. Or, better yet, she could have just run an actual paternity test instead of the rinky-dink test she ran four times and get a real answer. I’m sure I’ve seen talk shows where Maury Povich or whoever is testing related men to see who is the father of a baby, so it’s not like they can pretend the technology doesn’t exist. They may think this builds good tension, but moving this story into a space where they know Tripp isn’t the rapist can only improve it. Already they’ve taken a story where something horrific happened to a woman and made it about how a man is the victim, so a refocus would be good. On a positive note, Claire’s reaction to seeing Charlie shirtless was hilarious and perfect. I can’t imagine there’s any real long-term potential for the Charlie character, which is a shame because Mike Manning has been great and is very hot, and the show could use more younger characters who aren’t related to half of the town.
DAYS was apparently the #1 soap among women 18 – 49 in the latest ratings report, and it was the first time since 2006. That’s astounding considering what’s been happening storywise. Also, I just read that Camila Banus has tested positive for COVID and is in quarantine for the next 10 days. I assume that by this time in the filming schedule Gabi was back in Salem, so I wonder if a temporary recast will be needed.
There was buzz that the show was planning on pairing Rafe and Nicole, which makes sense given who’s around, and that seems to be the case. I wonder what they intend to write about Eric. Will something happen to him off-screen or will he just not come how for a long time?December 31, 2020 at 5:06 pm #1203955665
The Chad/Gwen scenes today were awful. The things Chad said about Abby sound like they came right out of RC’s misogynistic mouth. What Stefan did to Abby wasn’t cheating. It was rape. And I’ve had enough of Gwen and her scheming.January 1, 2021 at 8:23 pm #1203957312
The theory floating around is that Gwen will end up pregnant. Not with Chad’s baby but Stefano’s clone.January 4, 2021 at 8:39 am #1203961440
I feel like all the theories around things that will happen with Gwen are so dumb. I hope none of what I’ve been hearing is true.
syrus80, I completely agree about the Chad/Gwen scenes the other day. The way Chad talked about Abigail was so disgusting it was almost unbelievable. Even beyond RC’s unwillingness to acknowledge the incident between Abigail and Stefan that he can’t stop talking about as rape, Chad saying she had sex with Stefan and then blamed it on mental illness is beyond horrible. It also highlights what an absolutely terrible job the show has done of writing Abigail’s mental illness. This is largely on Ron, since the show had given Abigail a specific enough issue in the wake of everything that happened with Ben, but then he threw multiple personalities on that and uncontrolled hallucinations that were shaken loose by Rolfe’s drug. It’s so ridiculous.
Then I started thinking about all the gross or awful things that have happened between Chad and Abigail over the years, starting with Chad pretending to be dying of a brain tumor to not only break up her and Cameron but also get her to lose her virginity to him. Divorcing her when she came back to town so he could be with Gabi. Making a bargain with Stefan to give Stefan her baby and her committed to a mental institution. This is not a couple that should be together. These are obstacles; it’s someone being trash. I hope Abigail dumps him and the Hortons all shun him.
I’m not sure if Will has any more appearances in his current stint, but I hope he doesn’t leave town without us seeing him in scenes with Marlena, Ben and/or Lucas.January 6, 2021 at 8:48 am #1203965790
Looking forward to everybody having to apologize to Tripp!!!!
Get the feeling that Charlie won’t be on the show for too much longer – I hope Mike Manning shows up on GH next!!!
Loved Will and Sonny’s video chat!!! AND Sami on video too – clever way to get guest appearances done remotely.January 6, 2021 at 4:02 pm #1203966467
Marci Miller was amazing in her scenes confronting Gwen and Chad today. Love her!January 6, 2021 at 7:00 pm #1203966703
Yeah, Marci was awesome in those scenes! And I, too, am looking forward to the receiving line of apologies Tripp should be getting once the truth comes out.
While it was nice seeing Will and Sonny for New Year’s, it really feels like Will’s entire visit was bungled. The video chat with Sami was great, but even that was slightly underwhelming after they kind of teased her calling Marlena during the wedding and we only got her as a beat in this Allie/Tripp storyline. I think these are just symptoms of how little the show is paying attention to character right now and just running with these plots and moving characters around accordingly.January 8, 2021 at 9:17 am #1203969563
The Governor keeps on interrupting Days on a daily basis – has Charlie been caught yet? I saw Rafe find Ava at Charlie’s apartment…January 9, 2021 at 6:27 pm #1203973189
Charlie hasn’t been caught yet. He came back to his apartment and discovered Ava missing and then Rafe showed up. I guess Monday’s episode will pick up on that interaction.
Brady and Kristen’s conversation about Eli being responsible for Kristen being in jail was cringeworthy. Uh, Brady, she stabbed Victor.January 10, 2021 at 8:40 pm #1203975446
It’s so annoying the way they keep framing this like Eli was the bad guy for doing his job. Maybe if you can’t control yourself well enough to not stab someone then you should spend a few years cooling your jets away from the general population. Same argument applies to everyone being mad when Eli was arresting John after he nearly strangled Jan to death in front of like 10 people — controlling your homicidal urges is important! I dislike Brady and Kristen as a couple so so so much. The more time goes on, the more I hate it and the less sense it makes. I had to laugh out loud when Kristen, a woman who has made it a habit to deal babies right out of other women’s wombs, was saying how awful Dr. Raynor was for switching the babies.
Not to sound like a broken record, but the repetitive storytelling is killing me. Why does every baby on the show have to be kidnapped? I don’t think one child that’s been born under Ron’s tenure has not been kidnapped. Most of them are also given to the wrong parent at some point, but that’s at least more par for the course with a soap.
I love Judi Evans, and Bonnie has been a great character in the past, but she’s seeming like a bit of a waste lately. It’s like the show wants her to interact with the people Adrienne would interact with and they don’t care if it kind of doesn’t make sense. Also, while Judi is usually great, Bonnie’s drawl/accent was out of control on Friday’s show.January 12, 2021 at 9:31 am #1203979559
I have been surprised by the beats they are doing in Charlie’s storyline; his being questioned really surprises me. I will miss him when he is gone, I really like this actor immensely!
Brady is a total waste of time now and I truly can’t stand Phillip. Why on earth are they wasting our time on him? What’s with his permanent scowl too? Just NO where he is concerned!
Hoping the governor doesn’t interrupt today – hoping they get back to Allie confronting Charlie – but what’s up with this police station’s open door policy, lol????January 13, 2021 at 8:15 am #1203981380
LOL, the fact of anyone just being able to walk into an interrogation room is just one of the more ridiculous things on the show. (It reminds me of the era on GH when people would storm into operating rooms with emotional pleas, a disturbing and completely ridiculous trend that seemed to leave with Ron.) It seems to me that having found Ava tied up in Charlie’s apartment would be enough to arrest him for kidnapping, at which point they could maybe do some police work and find his fingerprints at Ava’s apartment and also run some DNA tests to prove that Charlie is both Ava’s son and the father of Allie’s baby. Like, this case shouldn’t hinge on Rafe getting Charlie to confess. Rafe’s interrogation technique was terrible.
The show also has too many things happening at once. We’re hitting a climax in the Abigail/Chad/Gwen story, Eli and Lani’s babies were just kidnapped, Xander just discovered that Phillip is laundering mob money through Titan, and everyone is finding out that Charlie is Ava’s other son and probably Allie’s rapist. Why is all of this happening at the same time? I appreciate keeping things exciting, but the show should be paced so that we can actually follow an exciting story instead of having to shelve it for a week to blow up something in another story. There was absolutely no reason that the babies needed to be kidnapped before being brought home from the hospital rather than at a check-up a few weeks later (to the degree that there needed to be a kidnapping at all). It feels silly that we’ve been waiting for days now to see what Chad is going to tell Abigail about Gwen not leaving the house. I don’t want to be too nitpicking, as I’m sure they’re dealing with some challenges in terms of coordination, but still, stuff like Steve being back in town and bopping around from place to place while John is somehow “stuck in traffic” just seems so dumb.
Great work by Isabel Durant as Claire tries to deal with this Charlie situation. This really feels like the old Claire, from before she started setting things on fire and trying to kill people.January 14, 2021 at 9:32 am #1203983284
I am liking the Charlie story but know it will end soon.
A few changes I would institute would be to take Brady off the show for a while, def. get rid of Philip (and Chloe), bring back Will, bring back Paul too. Have Zander strike out on his own and be successful! Bring back Sami, of course! If Eileen D isn’t ever coming back then get rid of Kristen. I also don’t find Sarah necessary. Give Maggie more to do. I am sure I can think of other suggestions too!
