Yeah, the show is also doing the same dumb thing they’ve done before where Kristen is ostensibly pretending to be Susan but just acting like herself. They did the same when Kristen, while dressed as Susan, ran into Susan and then claimed to be Mary Moira, but again, was just acting like herself. And the more this story plays out the dumber it is. I enjoyed the story for like a day or two and now it’s gotten annoying. Remember when Brady hired some guys to beat up EJ and then tried to finish the job of beating him to death himself? Susan should not give a hoot about Brady and everyone should know that. Every day Kristen is on I wish Eileen would come back to the role, but the writing around Kristen is generally terrible, so who can blame her.

I also agree that the last couple of episodes have felt dull. It feels like the show has one exciting thing happening at the moment and they’re holding it hostage while we watch stuff I don’t care about. Even Jackee’s introduction as Paulina was just her meeting Eli, Abe and the babies with nothing happening.

I hate the writing for Tripp and Gwen.

Saint Tripp is so “great” while Charlie was so “bad.” I can sorta buy Ava’s redemption now but then I instantly remember her being responsible for Shawn Brady’s death and everything she’s done to Kayla and the sympathy goes right out the window.

Abby has been on point with her assessment of Gwen and her crocodile tears about her childhood. Jack continually defending the girl who poisoned his daughter is way out of character. Jennifer feeling sorry for Gwen is even worse.

I don’t hate the idea of Ava trying to be a better person for Tripp, though it would be interesting to play out her realizing Tripp’s done some bad things, too (though mostly to Kayla and almost killing Hope as a result, both of which Ava has also done so she wouldn’t care). Even so, it feels like a story that can’t go very far — Ava barely exists outside of her villainy and her obsession with Steve — and certainly no Brady should ever forgive her.

The story around Gwen is such a mess. If they’re going to go the route of having Jack start supporting her over Abigail (absurd) out of guilt or whatever, it should at very least be causing problems for him and Jennifer as well. This woman just killed her mother after sending her daughter to a mental hospital! Jennifer should have the kind of venom she had for Eve and Theresa when they were involved with JJ, not any level of sympathy. I’m glad Cady is still around, but the decision to push Jennifer off to Boston is now even more baffling. Jack was never a great character, and the writing for him under this regime has been bad.

And again, unbelievable that we continue to see this nonsense when there’s a murder mystery and Sami’s at the center of it. We haven’t even seen all of the relevant characters since the murder happened!

I was reading Soap Opera Digest’s interview with Ron Carlivati about the Charlie murder mystery, and even though it feels like the show is underplaying it, I’m excited to see it unfold. Ron was talking about having to plan out the night of the murder in order to properly place all the different suspects and timelines and have them make sense. He also talked about how the story is about the mystery itself of course but also the relationships between the characters and how the situations pushes or reveals those relationships. When Ron plans out story this way, I think the result is usually very strong. We got some great stuff surrounding the time jump (Stevano/Princess Gina notwithstanding), and this also was likely the way his initial pair of stories — Will being alive in Tennessee and JJ shooting Theo — was planned out. The show would probably be much better if all of the storylines were done this way, not necessarily because it would be more characters in fewer stories rather than a scatter of many small storylines (though I think that would help), but because there a more deliberate nature to the way characters act and interact in these kinds of stories that are planned out this way. Like, to my mind, Marlena having to say to Ben that Susan probably wasn’t helpful in finding Ciara because she’s “really focused on Brady right now,” a line that makes no sense whatsoever, is the result of just not being made to think a story all the way through.

I really thought Kristen was going to kill Sarah by mistake thinking she was Chloe at the end of today’s episode – was really surprised when instead Sarah caught Kristen out of her Susan disguise. I was thinking how dull Zander has been lately as a result of things going well for him and Sarah, time to shake things up for him…

I am missing Maggie so so so much! I hope she comes back soon.

The cliffhanger with Ben seeing Ciara and we don’t see what is going on is suspenseful. He has taken his eye off Christian/Evan though… Will and Sonny really need to be part of this particular return imo.

Yesterday’s episode was entertaining, though kind of ridiculous. I like the idea that the connection between Ciara and Ben is so strong that they can communicate with each other, to a degree, even from afar. But the execution is kind of hilarious. It was so funny when Christian was trying to convince Ciara that Ben was dead, and she said something like she knew he wasn’t because she had a dream about him and asked him if he was still alive, and he said yes. It was also funny when she was yelling, “Ben, you’re in danger!” and then he got the message in his heart. I love these two and am glad they seem like they’ll actually be reunited soon. I’m disappointed they have made Christian into a murderous lunatic. I guess he was already a killer and willing to let Ben die for his crimes, but if he’s so broken up about losing his son, why not just kidnap David instead of whatever he’s been doing since October and now trying to murder a bunch of people?

I’m also looking forward to Xander getting into something new. I thought when he quit Titan that he’d convince Gabi to let him go into business with her and use his own money to fund the Gabi Chic relaunch. I can imagine the two of them getting into all kinds of trouble working together, and it could also present an opportunity for Gabi to be interested in someone other than Jake. Gabi could have become fixated on Xander and then schemed to try to separate him from Sarah. (Not that the Gabi/Abigail scenes haven’t been fun.) I have to say, though, the fact of Bonnie being the maid of honor at the Xarah wedding is beyond absurd. For starters, given the way Maggie feels about Bonnie, everything Bonnie has done to Maggie, and Sarah’s personality, she would be even less tolerant of Bonnie than Maggie is. Secondly, Bonnie is the mother of the woman her former fiancé got pregnant when he was cheating on her. Who wants that kind of reminder at their wedding? Also, why doesn’t Sarah have more friends? Given Xander’s past and personality, it makes sense that he doesn’t really have many people to turn to besides Jack. But we never see Sarah being friends with anyone other than, occasionally, Kayla, which is a real failure of writing. Even outside of that, she has a dozen relatives in town she could ask, and surely one of them would be available. It’s just another example of how the show wants to write Bonnie as if she’s Adrienne. Sarah having Adrienne as her maid of honor would make perfect sense.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing what happens with Sarah and Kristen and Ciara and Ben.

It’s very weird to me how little this show is dealing in love triangle with actual conflicted emotions right now. I supposed there’s Kate/Jake/Gabi, kind of, and if Ciara wakes up with amnesia, there may be something with Ben/Ciara/Theo/Claire I guess. But the default seems to be creating story through assaults, kidnappings, medical emergencies, and increasingly improbable identity swapping. It really sucks the emotional throughline from a lot of stories. Watching the Kristen/Sarah scenes over the last few days has made me think how enjoyable it would be having these people dealing with each other, their complicated feelings, the things they’ve done to one another, but those things are just being avoided. Even with Gabi and Kate, who have an interesting and complicated history, they are mostly making off-handed comments about one another to Jake and the show is largely ignoring their connection. It’s so frustrating.

I think it would be better if Sami actually saw Allie near Charlie’s place – perhaps outside the window? It would make her decision to lie a more understandable choice.

As for Ciara’s amnesia it’s an interesting choice.

I was thinking about a cast replacement for Hope: Martha Byrne! I know it wouldn’t go over well with long-term viewers but she is the right age and would be excellent in the role! (I am always wanting my favorite east coast soap actors to show up on the remaining 4 west coast soaps!). Is there any chance Kristian Alfonso would at least come back for an occasional visit???

YES! I totally agree with that suggestion, Freeman. I was combing through the available actresses who are familiar to viewers a while back and also settled on Martha Byrne as my favorite choice for a Hope recast (which at this point I think they need). I was going to start a thread about wishful casting the role, but got distracted thinking about accents. Martha is a great actress who I could see fitting really well into the Horton and Brady clans and who could embody Hope’s mix of loving mother/grandmother and tough badass. Of course, nothing would make me happier than Kristian Alfonso coming back for at least a stint to wrap Hope’s story or the occasional holiday visit, but she seems very, very done with the show.

As for today’s show, I’m just glad they finally got back to the murder mystery. Alison Sweeney was great today, and while I understand that she might be limited in terms of how often they can have her on, there’s no reason for this storyline to be featured only once every four or five episodes. There are a dozen suspects, and they’re acting like most of them aren’t involved in this story at the moment. I’m sure that’s about to change to some degree, but I hope this doesn’t continue to be backburnered for the Abigail/Gwen story or Kristen increasingly outlandish antics.

My gut feeling tells me that Charlie’s murderer is going to be Angelo Vitali (or whatever his name is) – it’s going to be connected to Philip’s storyline, I am predicting it. But how would he have gotten Kate’s gun? That’s the piece of the puzzle that is missing for me…

So Ciara is back to when Tripp and Claire had been together and Ciara thinks Tripp is still her boyfriend… interesting…

Ben and Ciara win the award already for most tortured romance of the past year. 3 different kidnappers (4 counting Eve) and now amnesia keeping them apart, not to mention the physical injuries both have suffered. They have been apart (except on their dreams) since their ill-fated wedding in July. Looks like Ciara’s amnesia will last a while too. I look forward to them finally reuniting. They have fantastic chemistry. Also hope that Hope returns in some form too.

I like the Angelo theory. I could see him killing Charlie as a code of honor thing. The way Ava talked about what Charlie did to Allie made it sound like the whole Vitali organization would not only be against such a thing but also be shamed by it, enough to feel the need to rectify it. That could also explain why Ava snuck out of Rafe’s house in the wee hours of night, to meet secretly with Angelo while he was in town, but not about the murder. I could also imagine that Allie took Kate’s gun (again) and when to confront Charlie but didn’t shoot him with it, either because he was already dead, so she freaked out, dropped it and ran, or because he got it away from her but was later murdered by someone else.

It surprises me that Ava would now be basically broke. Maybe this is just too long watching GH, but don’t mobsters always have a separate stream of legitimate income from businesses they own and subsequent investments so that even if they no longer had their criminal revenue stream or the money earned through that, they’d still be quite comfortable?

I love the new DiMera mansion set, and honestly what a joy it is to see them investing some money in that sort of thing. Some of the wardrobe lately has been looking like they’re getting things in bulk that were left over from stores going out of business, but improving the sets would be a good use of those savings.

Kristen as Sarah was hilarious. She was not into that at all.

As much as I do enjoy seeing different actors get the opportunity to play other characters, like Linsey Godfrey getting to be Kristen as Sarah, the stupidity of this storyline with Kristen and Sarah is actually making me angry. I liked that when Kristen was pretending to be Nicole, there was attention given to Kristen, for example, needing to have her phoenix tattoo removed and being very hesitant about Brady seeing her unclothed. This is the opposite. Kristen just shows up after a couple of hours claiming to have made this mask with voice-altering technology? And it suddenly makes Kristen’s visible tattoos go away and Sarah’s appear? (Kristen said she had that phoenix tattoo redone once she was no longer pretending to be Nicole.) Then she makes a call in the middle of the Brady Pub in the middle of the day pretending to be Susan and now sounding like herself, because I guess the voice technology has an off switch under the hair because why not? At some point, you have to ask yourself how much nonsense the audience will accept and realize there’s a limit. Just the fact of Kristen being out and about and no one having caught her sooner was a suspension of disbelief, and now we’re so far past that.

This Kristen is Sarah nonsense is nauseating! Bad soap!!!! I am really hating these scenes. Can we get back to what had made Days much watch t.v.??? That was back when we had rooting interest in couples and characters who behaved like real human beings!!! I have never liked sci-fi on Days – with the only exception being Will’s return from the dead.

Get back to Charlie’s murder and I am also enjoying Ciara’s amnesia. Those stories are much more interesting.
