I had the same thought about Ava, syrus80. When Ava started talking about Hope, I said, “Oh, remember when Ava kidnapped and shot Hope thinking she was Kayla?” I guess it doesn’t matter that much since Hope is never coming back, but still, it was weird.

Soap Opera Digest is reporting that Victoria Konefal is back as Ciara via an interview with Ron, but I couldn’t see it because I’m not a subscriber. I don’t know the details, but as far as I’m aware, the show is still not filming and waiting their contract renewal, so my guess was that this VK has already film more scenes as Ciara and TPTB wanted to get that information out there to combat the upset Cin fans. We’ll see how long that takes.

I agree about Melinda Trask. I think it’s really mostly the writing that’s making her this one-dimensional aggressor, but I’d love to have Laura Kai Chen back. I don’t really mind Eric being gone for a while without a recast, but they should be giving Nicole something more to do. I suppose that we’re on the verge of her competing with Ava for Rafe’s attention, though I would prefer a more nuanced emotional story that’s about Nicole’s growing feelings for Rafe and betrayal of her marriage without the Ava component. It was always weird to me that they hadn’t tried Nicole and Rafe together before, so from that angle, I like the idea of it.

Alison Sweeney is really lighting up the screen in all her scenes. She’s great in the Sami/Lucas/Chloe scenes, but also great dealing with Belle truly absurd accusations that Sami is the one who framed her.

This falls under the twin categories of two things I’ve been whining about for weeks now, the Kristen story and the careless writing, but having Phillip tell Jake in yesterday’s episode that Kate typically ends relationships by just basically not showing up and ignoring a man is especially weird and nonsensical considering how Kate’s relationships often end in an attempted (sometimes successful!) murder. Examples include Kate convincing someone to try to kill Victor after he got involved with Nicole, and later setting the mansion on fire; Kate poisoning Chloe with an apple when Daniel takes up with her after his breakup with Kate, which led to her having to marry Stefano to cover her tracks; Stefano sending Bernardi to try to cut off a comatose Rafe’s junk after his fling with Kate, which ended in Sami on trial for Bernardi’s murder; Andre being killed by Abigail while he and Kate were married; and Kate dumping and holding a gun on Ted Laurent after finding out about his blackmail/extortion scheme against Will and Sonny. What a weird thing to write. It’s kind of in line with Kristen repeatedly calling Kate’s clothes ugly, which, honestly, for a woman who’s been dressing as Susan for two months just seems like a real reach. Not to say Kate’s fashion is unimpeachable — Vivian used to be great at knocking Kate’s tastes and style as gaudy or nouveau riche — but having Kristen just call them ugly is very lazy, especially since she’d probably be relieved to be wearing something that’s not Susan’s clothes for a while.

This situation with Gwen/Abigail is eerily similar to the 2012 storyline between Nicole/Jennifer – Nicole was told she had miscarried her baby and later that day got into a tussle on a staircase with Jennifer and then claimed that Jennifer had caused her miscarriage. This has some differences, of course, and Gwen is way more sympathetic (at least for me, I am not liking how Abigail is behaving at all!) than Nicole was at that time. But there is a sense of deja vu about it! (Kudos to Emily O’Brien, who is slaying her scenes as Gwen lately!)

The Abby/Gwen story is wrong for so many reasons. Gwen drugged Abby and targeted her family but Jack and Chad defend Gwen at every turn. Chad is a lousy husband!

Chad is trash. It’s hard for me to root for Chad and Abigail at all, and it has been since he took Charlotte from her and had her committed at the end of Marci Miller’s first run. His behavior when Gwen started to manipulate him and Abigail was also just disgusting. I think lousy husband is an understatement!

Jack, also, is trash. I don’t blame him for wanting to support his daughter Gwen and having some sympathy for her for the way she grew up and whatever, but trying to force Abigail to get along with her is ridiculous, especially without letting any time even pass for tensions to ease. Jack also needs to acknowledge that, accident or no, it’s Gwen’s fault that Laura is dead. The way he keeps calling Jennifer to support him on these Gwen decisions like this girl didn’t kill her mother is just appalling. If Jack wants to look after Gwen, fine. But moving her into the Horton family home is not right.

I also was thinking of the similarities with the Jennifer/Nicole miscarriage situation. I felt bad for Nicole because it had been her second very late miscarriage, but she was behaving pretty despicably at the time and certainly shouldn’t have blamed Jennifer. (Billie also did a similar thing to Hope after she miscarried baby Georgia and said an argument with Hope had caused the miscarriage, though of course she’d gone into early labor and delivered what she thought was a dead baby down in the swamp, but then it turned out that baby was Chelsea.) Gwen will surely blame Abigail and her fall for the miscarriage, so it’ll be interesting to see how long that goes on and just how much of an ass Chad makes of himself in the process.

Disappointed that they are choosing to simply repeat the 2012 storyline rather than do something fresh and different with the story ):

It’s nice to be surprised with something unexpected from time to time on these shows, and certainly I’ve done my share of complaining about the repetition lately on DAYS, but I don’t really mind this one. The “blaming your miscarriage on your rival” thing feels more like a classic plot device to me, and at least they didn’t do it a few months ago like most of the things they’re repeating. Hopefully the nuances of this are different so it won’t feel too rote.

Today’s episode had a great example of how the show pretends to use history but doesn’t really do it in a way that makes sense. When Kristen found out that Lucas was trying woo Chloe by pretending to have a brain tumor, she mentioned that Chad did the same thing and it blew up in his face. But in fact, Chad’s plan accomplished exactly what Kristen wants to accomplish here: Chad’s lie convinced Abigail to spend enough time with him that she broke up with then-boyfriend Cameron and ended up giving her virginity to Chad, so despite Chad having to eventually face the consequences (temporary consequences, the two are married after all), the plan worked quite well. Also, I’m sure this is a sore subject for Sami, since that breakup with Cameron and then Chad is what freed up Abigail to pursue EJ.

Anyway, every time Kristen threatens to call EJ and tell him about Sami and Lucas, the story feels more and more absurd. I know Sami wants to save her marriage, but Kristen is leveraging an unsubstantiated piece of gossip to get Sami and Lucas to not only cover up a couple of crimes she’s actively committing but also help her manipulate Chloe and Brady’s feelings, which is a lot. Imagine Kristen thinking it’s a good idea to spill to EJ because she doesn’t like the plan Sami and Lucas have come up with. If they expose her, she goes back to jail and Brady likely dumps her, freeing him to get together with Chloe. She should be thankful Sami is willing to keep her secret and leave it at that. If they wanted to go this route, the least they could have done is made Kristen catch on to what was happening while it was in progress and get some kind of proof, like pictures.

I simply need a break from Kristen. Ron clearly loves her but I am sick of the very sight of her!

I’ve been thinking about how much I haven’t been liking Abigail lately. I don’t like when characters are shrill and shouty and she has been shrill and shouty! I also must admit to favoring Kate Mansi’s version of Abigail to Marci Miller’s; I also am loving Emily O’Brien’s acting choices and find myself enjoying Gwen, particularly I was enjoying her relationship with Jack and how it has been changing her, her realization that her plan was based on false information. Whether Abigail pushed Gwen or not she pushed her by badgering her. I think Ron is on Abigail’s side so I doubt I will be enjoying this storyline from this point forward, where I think those who favor this Abigail will be happier with the story.

It is my understanding that the show is not filming right now and they are waiting word on whether or not the show is being renewed.

Yes, they’re on break awaiting renewal. The network is likely holding off on renewing for a number of reasons, including how they don’t love how far ahead of their airshows DAYS is and also they’re probably hoping for some progress on the pandemic so they can cut some of the expenses related to that. Tamara Braun and Galen Gering were on the SOD podcast talking about the show having an in-house PCR testing lab and providing a special COVID-killing mouthwash to be used before and after kissing scenes. I’m sure there are plenty of other expenses.

I also have a very slight preference for Kate Mansi as Abigail, but I do love Marci Miller and she’s really making her version seem much more cohesive with KM’s during this stint. Abigail did say some truly horrendous things to Gwen, but that probably won’t matter after Gwen’s lie that Abigail pushed her. It also seems like this will swing the pendulum in terms of Chad and Abigail and she’ll now be the one trying harder to make the relationship work, which, given everything Chad has done, I don’t love.

I’ve heard that Stacy Haiduk will be out as Kristen at some point in the near future, so I guess all that will come to a head.

I thought they had decreased the amount of time between filming and airing to 3 months instead of 6 months??? Honestly it ought to be just a few weeks, so they can see what is working and what isn’t working and make quicker decisions for necessary changes.

I very much enjoyed Paul Telfer’s performance yesterday. Sarah being gone has reinvigorated his character. He needs to take Claire’s advice pronto!

I wonder if Kate will fight back and win against Kristen??

I hope they address the mystery of how exactly Jan got a hold of Kate’s gun???

Yeah, they’d reduced the time between filming and airing significantly first because of the contract wait last year and then a lengthy COVID break, but they quickly got back up to a heavy backlog. They’ve filmed into September, so what had shrunk down to less than two months had gotten up around five or so months I believe, before the current hiatus.

I don’t think the thing with Kate’s gun is that much of a mystery, right? We already know that Allie brought it in with her and left it there because Charlie took it from her. All Jan had to do was get it without Charlie realizing her intention. I know this doesn’t jive with what we saw at the time of the murder, when it appeared that the killer came in with a gun aimed at Charlie already, but they could claim that either that was someone else’s entrance or that Jan did bring a gun (why wouldn’t she) but saw an opportunity to use the gun that was already there and took it.

The worse part of the story with Kristen and her Magic Mask is the lack of logic. Why hasn’t she used a Chloe mask to get rid of her much the way she did with Sarah?

Once Days is renewed, they really need to get rid of Re-Ron!

Yeah, that’s an excellent point. Even within the bounds of its own insanity, the story makes no sense. So many levels of poor decision-making have gone into it.

I guess Jan could have brought her own gun, then found Kate’s gun and used it instead… the whole story is preposterous!

Amazed by how quickly Shawn and Belle have put the pieces of the puzzle together. I was apparently wrong about Dr. Snyder being part of it, at least it seems like he wasn’t since if he was he wouldn’t have let them see the security footage.

Judi Evans was hilarious as Bonnie caught on to the con artistry of Jan Spears! That was a super fun scene!

Days is filled with individual fun scenes but the stories themselves are not all that good imo. The show is saved by a wonderful cast of actors!

I have been wrong several years in a row about Days being renewed – I have thought it would be cancelled – but I am still thinking this will be the year they are finally cancelled. I won’t mind being wrong yet again but the super low ratings and imo there is really no way of attracting the all important new viewers to the show in the current system that television is being viewed. Again, I will be glad to be wrong because even though I think the writing leaves a lot to be desired I still love soaps and don’t want them to die out.
