I read about that too, that Sami will be appearing in august 2020, from when it was shot…but that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, since production was shut down, or has it restarted, cuz if so, I did not hear about that.December 12, 2019 at 12:38 am #1203233118
^I assume it means they filmed enough to get through to August 2020.
I have been feeling very mixed about the show since the time jump. I’m not happy with the sci-fi stuff with “Princess Gina” and “Stefano” at all. I am happiest with the stories they have been showing infrequently. The time jump has been intriguing but the stories still aren’t as compelling as I would wish for them to be. I am hoping the early January episodes which will explain what happened on that “dreadful night” a year ago will help move things along in a more satisfactory manner.December 12, 2019 at 8:50 am #1203233680
If DAYS had not been picked up, I think they would have had just a few weeks in September to wrap up, and that they had already produced through August 2020 — fully insane to be that far ahead, btw. Production should stay dark until June.
I’ve been liking the show much more since the time jump, but I understand why some people are not. I think the show hasn’t done quite as good a job as they should have of making the jump feel like a significant story move rather than a gimmick or stunt. There are still too many storylines, and nothing feels focused enough. I think a more sustained focus on that horrible day they’ve mentioned, when I believe possibly Sarah’s baby was born, Kristen’s baby was born and died, Haley was killed, and Adrienne was killed, would probably help to anchor things. Instead, the show is currently in a bad place because it’s set up, plot-wise, for several storyline payoffs, but they largely feel unearned because all of these stuff happened in a space we didn’t see and during time that didn’t actually pass. For example, as much as I loved Kristen going from crying on her knees at gunpoint to yelling at Eli about Gabi, the fact that Lani and Kristen have already left the convent they were planning to join seems ridiculous. They were there for, what, four episodes? Of course, it was quite a few months, but it feels like they showed up, said a few prayers, and left with little character growth. Also, the idea that Gina has been impersonating Hope for over a year, undetected, just makes the jump of time hard to buy into. Doing the time jump as more of an umbrella story, I think, would have made it better.
We also are not getting much in the way of clues to unravel any of the mysteries they’ve laid out from the time jump. With Jordan’s murder, just as an example, all we have is the suggestion that Xander and Victor are responsible, which we can accept for reject. There’s really no other clues to follow or try to decipher. That how most of these things are. We know something happened, but are just left to speculate basically blindly about what it was until the reveal happens.December 13, 2019 at 10:25 am #1203235033
I read that Greg Vaughan and Linsey Godfrey are leaving the show “indefinitely”, whatever that means. I have not been a fan of Sarah and am happy about her leaving, wish it was permanent. I love GV as Eric but have really disliked his stories the past year.
I wonder what that will mean for Nicole?
Chandler Massey and Wally Kurth did a great job in their poignant scene on yesterday’s episode. Justin saying he regards Will as his son was quite well done.
I guess Melissa Reeves has to be considered lead for 2019; I guess I always think of her as a supporting player but she has had lead material this past year, particularly with the return of Jack.December 13, 2019 at 1:03 pm #1203235247
I read that about Greg Vaughan and Linsey Godfrey as well. I’m assuming they’ll just be gone as part of the storyline and won’t be away for too long, but the story is so messy right now that they could use time to reset. First, I think it’s awful to write a story about a baby having cancer. It would be one thing if the story was meant to be informative or to raise awareness, but if this just goes under the category of “sometimes bad things happen,” I hate it. It feels like a bad decision, too, as that’s the kind of thing that could easily repel viewers if there’s nothing else keeping them tuned in. Also, both Eric and Sarah have been pretty unsympathetic lately. I feel bad for Eric, but he’s been a jerk to Nicole (who ultimately told him the truth) and Xander (who only worked with Sarah’s insistence that Eric not know about the baby) when the people he should be upset with are Sarah (for making the call about not telling him in the first place) and himself (for truly dropping Sarah like a radioactive potato as soon as he thought he could get Nicole back).
I agree about the Will/Justin scenes at the prison. Those were great, and Wally Kurth especially was excellent in them.December 14, 2019 at 3:49 pm #1203236355
Days took a gamble with the Time Jump, and I think it was a good move. I am enjoying the show and the many of the stories since the fateful November 8 episode.
The only story about which I have major reservations is the Stefano/Princess Gina insanity. It reminds me a bit of the Franco/Drew story on GH. But in GH’s story, the circumstances, although stretching the bounds of reality, were more clearly defined. I’m not really sure what we are witnessing on Days. Stefano is inside Steve Johnson’s body? I’m really hoping that this is not the case. If Steve were programmed to believe he is Stefano, I would find that solution much more acceptable. I never saw the original Princess Gina story, but I do not really feel invested. Overall, these overlapping stories fall in the zone of outlandishness that I know some enjoy, but I really do not, except in small doses. I did love the Hattie/Bonnie story in 2017, because it was humorously written. But overall, I prefer more down-to-earth storytelling.
One aspect of the show that intrigues me is the fact that Will is in prison. I am eager to find out what happened and where this story will go. I love Ben and Ciara and the way their story is unfolding. I also like Justin and Kayla together. The Stefano story will undoubtedly become more interesting when he and Kayla come face to face. The scene with Kristen and Lani the other day was quite humorous. And of course I love the way that Xander has evolved, but I hate that Mickey has cancer.
Freeman: “Chandler Massey and Wally Kurth did a great job in their poignant scene on yesterday’s episode. Justin saying he regards Will as his son was quite well done.” Agreed… loved those scenes!
EmmyLoser: “Dropping Sarah like a radioactive potato as soon as he thought he could get Nicole back.” That made me laugh! Thank you, EmmyLoser!December 15, 2019 at 8:36 pm #1203239032
Judi Evans. Prayers for her and her family. Her son passed away. He played baby Dante on Another World.December 16, 2019 at 8:08 am #1203239539
That’s very sad about Judi Evans’ son. My thoughts are with her and her family.
It’s always great to get your commentary here, robbalto! I’ve also been comparing/contrasting the Franco/Drew story on GH and the situations with both Gina and Stevano on DAYS. From what they’ve said on the show, my assumption is that Stefano’s memories and personality were somehow, through Rolf’s machinations, transferred into Steve. They’ve made it sound like what happened here was different and far more advanced than the procedure that turned Hope into Gina, even though I feel like they were more or less the same. Stefano originally turned Hope into Gina to replace Gina because she went mad (or something) and was no longer available to be stealing things are forging artwork. So Hope’s Gina was meant to be very similar, but not an exact copy (in theory, more table and not obsessed with John, though the latter part has failed to work out time and again). For me, while I like knowing the details of how things happen, there is almost no point to knowing anything more about the Steve/Stefano transfer. Because I don’t believe that permanently erasing Steve to make him Stefano could possibly be the long-term intention of the show, Steve must be underneath somewhere, and that’s really all that matters. Unless the person we think is Steve that Stefano now inhabits is a secret twin, in which case, all bets are off.December 16, 2019 at 1:56 pm #1203240347
I wish they would’ve hired a different actor to play Stefano if they were going to go with the memory transplant route. Perhaps Michael E. Knight. It would’ve been a departure for him. Or another name daytime actor.
Apparently Kate and Steve are supposed to have a tryst. Again, I don’t like Steve being the one in the story.December 17, 2019 at 10:27 am #1203241770
MAybe this is a dumb question…but have Chad and Sonny had any scenes together scenes Billy Flynn returned? The relationship between Chad and Sonny was always one of my favorites.December 17, 2019 at 10:44 am #1203241790
^I don’t recall any scenes with Sonny and Chad?
Bored with today’s episode, nothing much is happening…December 17, 2019 at 1:45 pm #1203242004
I’m sure there was at least one episode….unless the time jump has made me think of an episode from years ago…lolDecember 17, 2019 at 9:37 pm #1203242297
Yes, there were scenes with Chad and Sonny, and it was just like old times. It was right after Chad first told Abigail about his communications with Stefano, and Chad almost let it slip to Sonny. Sonny was of course talking about the difficulty with Will, and I think also about Evan. I believe it was the episode where, at the end, Sonny called Evan and agreed to meet up for a drink or whatever. Anywho, they definitely should be writing in more Chad/Sonny scenes, but I think it’s tough for them to squeeze them in because, for one thing, the show is still overly focused on plot progression rather than character relationships and development, and for another, Chad’s primary opponent is Gabi, while the show refuses to have Sonny or Will have any reasonable degree of conflict with her over the atrocities she’s been committing.
I enjoyed seeing Gabi and Eli clashing, and it seems like Gabi may finally be starting to reveal her true colors. I also enjoyed the scenes with Kristen and Lani. Having accepted that we’re essentially stuck with this incarnation of Kristen, it was a really good move to give her a friend in Lani. Most of what she’s done this year, prior to her suddenly and unbelievably becoming this gentle flower because she found out she was pregnant, was out of pure self interest and not caring about anyone other than herself even a little bit. Having her make friends with Lani helps with potentially reestablishing some of the other emotional connections she’s had and should have. They’re also kind of fun to watch.
Strong performances from Freddie Smith and Chandler Massey with the divorce conversation yesterday.December 17, 2019 at 10:01 pm #1203242310
I do agree that giving Kristen a co-conspirator is a good idea, but I just can’t stand Stacy Haiduk in the role. She has made the character so unlikable.December 18, 2019 at 11:12 am #1203242848
I have read that Kassie DePaiva (Eve) is exiting the show yet again ): I wish they had brought Frankie back, before bringing Jack back (or instead of!) for Jennifer and Eve to fight over! Oh well… KDP has been great in her role as Eve! Of course she could return to GH playing Blair… (; (I am not sure if legally that is so, just wishful thinking I guess!)
